Are you going to watch?

I do for some reason and I'm not sure why.

Mathew McConaughey in Dallas Buyer's Club or Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street?

Who else are your picks?

Maybe we could do some vbetting?

Ok added a best picture poll. Let's see if we know anything about movies.

God, this Red Carpet show is such a circle jerk. It's sickening.

Dallas Buyers Club was the only one I've seen. It was alright, but I usually don't like prestige/oscar bait pics.

I'm really pulling for Leo in Wolf of Wall Street. Movie is a bit long but he puts up the best performance of his career... never expected him to be so funny.

I typically stay away from the award shows. I'd prefer to watch an Oscar winning movie on Turner Classic Movies.

This. Wolf of Wall Street was great and Leo was awesome, hope he gets the Oscar.

I've only seen Captain Phillips and Philomena.

Both very good flicks. I liked Tom Hanks and Judi Dench but don't see either as Best Actor/Actress or Best Picture. That's subjective based on past winners not this year's competition (that I haven't seen).

Philomena is deep movie about abuses, condemnation, and forgiveness. It doesn't strike me as a subject that will do well with Academy voters.

There are a few thing I care less about, but not many, haven't watched a moment of an AA in years...

Yet you were still able to find time to contribute to an AA thread.:)

I only saw Captain Phillips and Wolf of Wall St. Both were really good but I don't think they are worthy of Best Picture. I would like to see that Somalian fellow win Supporting Actor. I also want Leo or Mcconaughey to win Best Actor.

Just saw Nebraska today. Good movie, but does not strike me as a movie that would win the Oscar.

I think American Hustle or 12Years a Slave will win, though I'd give it to Wolf.

I opened the thread... And saw YOU ask clearly if we are watching, I answered and stated why... Enjoy.

I think it will be 12 years, but my vote would be for Wolf. Seen almost all of the best picture nominees and its a strong class IMO.

The more Gravity wins technical awards the more I think they'll get locked out of the big awards.

That was the best collection of songs up for Best Song probably ever.

- I'm really glad that Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress award; personally, I don't think it was even close this year.
- I was torn between McConaughey and Ejiofer, and glad it ultimately went to one of them.
- Lastly, I'm happy that HER won the best original screenplay and sad that NEBRASKA ended up not winning anything.

BEST SPEECH: Jared Leto

EDIT 1: really good foreign language film nominations this year. The Great Beauty is a wonderful film but I was really rooting for The Hunt.
EDIT 2: best documentary should have gone to The Act of Killing in my opinion.

Great Blanchett performance... definitely should have one.

I don't think McConnaughey had anywhere near the best performance of the year, but I am not surprised in the least that he won. It had all the check-the-box characteristics that the Academy usually eats up.

It's funny, I thought Jared Leto had by far the worst speech of the night. Almost all of the self-serving Hollywood save the world speeches are unbearable. No one in the Ukraine gives a shit what Jared Leto thinks. Lupita wins best speech for me.
