Calling one person a name directly is much easier to handle than generalizing an entire group of people across the board... I found the Texas comment more than a little insulting.

Not excusing pats comment either, just saying.

So when pat calls some of us, "bleeding hearts" or "nancies" that's ok?

Yeah, I noticed how your brushed aside pat's comments to make mine seem more offensive.

I honestly don't really care, I'm just sick of pat being so damn ignorant.

Sticks and stones and all that sh!t.

If you want to make it a level playing field on the "insults" pat should be first in line.

Y! SPORTS

This story is turning out to be a bit confusing now. Incognito comes out and states that Martin and him were close and it was not about bullying. Understandably that is the main reason behind the Dolphins players supporting Incognito once the story became public. Then what was Jonathan Martin so disturbed with to leave the team. Martin needs to give his side of the story.

If Martin did indeed send that text, he deserves the same treatment as Incognito. Incognito has not denied any of the specific things he was claimed to have done, lets see if Martin does. If so, lets see if there is any proof to this text. Sounds fishy to not come out with that info right away.

I think that if they believe that kind of communication is a "brotherly" atmosphere, they have no idea what they are talking about, and the lockerroom culture is OBVIOUSLY toxic and out of control.

True, not coming out without this initially makes it seem REALLY fishy...but I do not think that Martin deserves the SAME treatment as Richie because Richie was THE ringleader of that OL and it sounds like the ENTIRE lockerrooom. That place is just toxic.

You can clearly see he was joking in these texts. He just forgot the sarcasm font.

Why does this Incognito fellow share the title of a thread here if he's "incognito?" I'm confused. And old. And bored.

Maybe I've just spent far too much time reading Tom Robbins novels in Villa Incognito.

Let me get this right.

Someone posting on this thread has any idea what happened? Like they were there?

What would anyone's "sexuality" have to do with something like this?

Haven't any of you ever been anywhere that someone with mental health issues was able to exert power and control over those defenseless?

In my younger days (twice) I was attacked by people as off-kilter as this person appears to be. Both times I responded with violence. Not bragging, simply relating fact, I would have killed if need be. It doesn't sound like Martin has that in him. Thankfully most people don't.

Here is where the conversation becomes about what is really going on. Many people think you have to have a murderous streak to play pro football. I think all you need it for (with the fog of a little antisocial behavior) to be a murderer.

The real conversation is whether the football world is better with the SC's and Pete Carroll's, or the Urban Assholes, the Hernandez' and the Florida Gators, or the SEC chain gangs. I don't think so.

But I don't see why any one is surprised at the amount or veracity of these occurrences.

It will be interesting to see if the NFL takes adequate steps to save itself.

I tend to agree. I think way more has been made about this then should be.

Just read through most of those texts. The media blew this shit way out of proportion and Martin did nothing change their minds. I have little doubt that Incognito is a douche, but it sounds like he got royally fucked over here.

here's the thing, Mr.Martin laughed about it in August, but got annoyed with it in Oct. maybe it became too much, ok......but you have to wonder why any of his socalled team mates have yet to come forward on his behalf, and some teams have inquired about having Richies' services, but hardly any team has inquired about Martin ?, hell after the story broke, not long after Mike Wallace said ..... I wish Richie was STILL HERE, I miss Richie..........I've not heard 1 Dolphin teamate that shares that locker room with Jonathan Martin tell of all people the media ( and anybody else that's listening) that they wish jonathan Martin was still there ! but there are a plethora of folks around these parts ( South Dade) yelling " Good Riddance !!! to him

Miami Dolphins bullying report released -- Richie Incognito, others responsible for harassment - ESPN
Investigation concludes:
The Report concludes that three starters on the Dolphins offensive line, Richie Incognito, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, engaged in a pattern of harassment directed at not only Jonathan Martin, but also another young Dolphins offensive lineman and an assistant trainer," Wells said in a press release. "The Report finds that the assistant trainer repeatedly was the object of racial slurs and other racially derogatory language; that the other offensive lineman was subjected to homophobic name-calling and improper physical touching; and that Martin was taunted on a persistent basis with sexually explicit remarks about his sister and his mother and at times ridiculed with racial insults and other offensive comments."

My big takeaway is "so what?"

Has anyone on this board NOT been the target of bullying, name calling, racially insensitive remarks, or etc. during their lifetime? Among "friends" that kind of stuff was relatively commonplace... especially in sports.

I'm not saying it should be tolerated to this extreme or is "right" or that Incognito isn't a shithead... but you read the messages Martin sent to him and he clearly was representing that they were friends. I put the onus on Martin quite a bit for how this got "out of control."

Yeah. I don't know what the Dolphins or the NFL will do. I just posting as the results of the "investigation" were released. This is one story I could not care less about. Both Martin and Incognito will not be with the Dolphins next year anyway.

My takeaway is that Martin wasn't the only one being harassed, if it was that terrible why is he the only one complaining? In fact most of the team is standing with incognito

This is where I disagree with you. When someone is being bullied they have a tendency to try and befriend the bully thinking that that will stop it. According to the lawyer who did the investigation Martin was texting his family the whole time telling them how horrible he was being treated. I put the onus on the coaching staff as the OL coach was even involved in some of the bullying and created a culture where it could get out of hand.

And this elucidates, enlightens and encourages the resolution of the the issue, in its entirety, in just what way?

To "quote" the attitude of others as "proof" is shallow and hollow at best. Specious and erosive at worst.

Not to mention that its "sissies," not "sissy's."

All that proves is that Martin didn't like the way he was being treated. It doesn't prove that he was treated poorly objectively or that he communicated his displeasure with his teammates. From everything I've read, Incognito (who probably isn't a good guy) had no idea Martin felt bullied and, considering the texts they sent back and forth, had no reason to.

Incognito isn't 'probably' a bad guy, he absolutely is a bad guy. 2 colleges and a pro team (STL) wanted him the eff out, and now Miami wants nothing to do with him. And the only reason a guy like Incognito has no clue that another person feels bullied is because he's too much of a blockhead to realize what an absolute ass he's being to that other person.

This report only further cements what a meathead idiot Incongnito is. Regardless of how you ('you' in general sense, not you gk) feel about Martin and his actions, Incognito is a giant douche who deserves everything he gets. I have absolutely no sympathy for him.

Where did I argue that Martin had told them? That was never even part of my argument. I will point out again, that many people being bullied attempt to befriend the bully in hope that once they are "friends" that the bullying will stop. That explains his text messages with Incognito.

That does explain why Martin acted the way he did. But "objectively," those types of texts indicate a friendly relationship rather than one of bullying. He likely was in fact bullied. But how was the "bully" in this case, Incognito, supposed to know Martin didn't like the way Incognito treated him if he was receiving all of these texts from Martin? So Incognito had no reason to stop whatever behavior he was exhibiting unless Martin, or someone else, confronted him about it directly. IIRC, that didn't happen.

So while Incognito is a douche for the way he acted, there's a lot of room to mitigate his behavior.
