That's all great, and if you look at Rosen's thread I talked about Rosen to UCLA last month, but that addresses nothing I talked about. UCLA kicked USC's ass the last 2 years and still got outrecruited by a bad team in the midst of crippling sanctions. I'm not sure you understand the incredible pull that USC has in CA. Even when they suck and they have a sorry coach and they are under sanctions, they still pull in better classes than UCLA. I don't expect that to change any time soon...

This would be equivalent to the years when Purdue was so good with Brees. They kicked ND's ass a few times but I would bet that ND won the recruiting battle for kids instate and in the mid-west. ND still has the allure to kids in the Midwest over other flash in the pan teams. I'm not talking about the Michigans and tOSU but over teams like MSU, Purdue, Indiana, etc. UCLA kind of falls in that category because they have historically not been a good football program.

We'll see. I disagree, but you never know. I think USC's schedule is too weak for them to falter horribly.

And they can only take 25. There is no way around that number, just like there was no way around the 19 number this year (even though people were saying they'd cheat and figure out a way around it, they couldn't and never wavered off that number. 25 is their absolute max next year).

Personally, I'm far from negative. But giving on honest opinion, even if it's not blindly covered in gold and blue glasses, doesn't mean one is being negative. How boring would this place be if everyone just automatically said ND is #1 and we'll get the number class and everyone else sucks? It's not negative to say that USC could have a monster class next year. They absolutely could, and I think we'll still beat them.

And Josh Rosen is a stud. Saw him play as a soph and you could see it then. Last year he absolutely killed it and he deserves all of the praise he gets, and has earned his high ranking. That doesn't mean that Blake isn't great too. But IMO, not only it is close, in many people's minds, ND recruitniks as well, Rosen is #1 and Blake is #2. I'm perfectly fine with that, cause Blake is going to blow up at ND...

I was talking about some people always assuming the worst for the last whatever months on every single thing happening in the recruiting board. Wasn't really concerning Blake and the other Quarterbacks. That being said, it is of my opinion that Blake will be the best 15 QB by the time he steps on campus. There is just something about that kid. I don't think saying USC will have a great class is negative. It is probably going to be fact, and to be honest I welcome it. I would rather beat them when they are good.

I dunno. USC didn't get JuJu Smith, Adoree Jackson and Damien Mama because they had a new coach. They were always in the driver's seat for those kids and only risked losing them because the Kiffin regime was so bad. Once things got back to normal, they came home to where they were always heading.
That kind of cachet takes a generation to develop, and UCLA just doesn't have it.

Think about this: UCLA just kicked the crap out of USC twice, USC is in the midst of one of the worst sanctions in NCAA history, PLUS they levied their own self-sanctions, otherwise known as "The Hiring of Lane Kiffin". And then they pissed off their fanbase and several recruits by not retaining the uber-popular Ed O and hired a .500 coach. UCLA had EVERYTHING going for it, and USC could easily be seen as a floundering ex-super power, yet USC still kicked their ass on NSD.

Minor point from someone who doesn't follow USC football in great detail: Isn't Sarkasian well-received in most USC circles though? I thought that was a hire perceived as a positive throwback to a "successful" time in recent Trojan history.

What constitutes "pro style" is changing, but if we're operating under the old construct of pro style vs. dual threat, there's absolutely no way you could view his film and skill-set and not list Barnett as DT. His legs have to be accounted for on defense.

Definitely, he's not even in the top 247 as of now. Here's a question for all. How high does he get by the end of summer?

I'm not quite that bullish yet as I think it may take his senior season to make that leap. I'm going to between 25-40 nationally.

He already beat out Town to qualify for the Opening, then you factor in mobility... At the opening he'll have even more training to iron out release under his belt, and all the talent evaluators will see him.

There were still people at the Opening qualifications that had Town rated higher for the day. I think Barnett is probably top 2-3 dual threat guys in the country, maybe number 1. I still have him behind Rosen and Town until his Sr. season.

Believe he's referring to the people who talked about him outplaying Town at Elite 11 tryout. To be fair, their were also people who thought Town was the best.

But in a passing only competition, Barnett got the nod of coaches/analysts who were making the selection. And that should be Town's forte.

Yea at the elite eleven some liked Barnett some liked Town but no one was way higher on one than the other. (Except some SEC homers when Town was a Bama commit)

Rosen has better legs and I think is a better passer than Town, but he also reminds me of Clausen. Big ego per reports, plays on a stacked team, etc. These kinds of Cali players are often overhyped and don't reach their lofty ranking.

Rosen, Brady White, Barnett... best 3 QBs in Cali IMO. Around the country, there are a lot of awesome prospects too. For ND, I don't even know if I'd have Town in my top 10. Dead serious.

I'm with you on all of this. My only comment was on Perth stating Barnett is a better passer right now than Town, which I just don't think is true. Blake's upside as a passer and runner is enormous, way higher than Town's, but I think the reason Town is ranked higher right now is because he is a much more polished passer at this point. I don't think that is really that debatable.

Barnett knows this IMO, and is working hard to refine his technique, knowledge, etc. Yes, Barnett won the Elite 11 over him, but go back and read the 'reports' from the Elite 11 guys. They state plainly that Junior year film, Blake's upside, and his coach-ability led to his win. I think the SEC pundits weren't being homers when they said they thought Town was better - he probably did throw a little better. But he should right now, because that is the only edge he has on Blake, and Blake should be able to catch him in that, whereas Town could never catch Blake in athleticism and speed.

The recruitniks can say whatever they want, but no opponents are looking forward to Kelly having this kind of QB, with the backs/receivers he can get, and the elite offensive linemen we pull annually.
