I always think that infamous red-face moment was towards Tommy. It was TJ correct? After he let that pass bounce off his helmet for a pick?

The problem, really, is Kelly's rosacea (not to hi-jack).

I'm struck by how, in all three or four of these TP 10 question/answers the kids all close with the same thing -- essentially, "I promise I will be the hardest working player out there." That's not scripted; that's a recruiting scheme.

Purple face happened during USF when TJ wasn't looking for the ball. Yep.

And yes, the 10 questions are great, aren't they? You get to see that each of these guys intend on being more devoted and harder working than the next. And they have the same two goals, winning in the classroom and winning on the field with a national championship!

I have been thinking that this guy is going to make a major impact in a hybrid position in BVG's new defense.

Elston called him a safety prospect. Saying they've been trying to get bigger there, last year adding Redfield.

Kelly talking about Drue, said when they saw him originally they didn't have a spot for him at his position, but Elston stayed on Kelly, and they really liked the way he played the game. They don't know where they're going to put him right now Safety, Linebacker, RB, but they know he's definitely going to be great.

"people ask, will he play safety, will he play RUNNING BACK -- I don't know where he plays, but he will play somewhere, because he is a football player."

Two things : Drue didn't fit the old mold. So it wasn't all about height, but it seems pretty rigid; 6'2 1/2 inches and 224 lbs., with that speed and athleticism? Holy shit!

I think Diaco's things was that he was all about setting priorities and sticking with his plan. He knew they only had so much time and energy on recruits, so he went after kids with certain measurables, or certain reputations, figuring that you were more likely to "hit" with those kids. It was extremely hard to get his attention if you weren't in that initial group. Like anything, that kind of single-mindedness has its blessings and curses.

You can't really justify passing on Tranquil based on measurables. The only justification for passing on Tranquil is trusting scouts over your own eyes. Sounds like Diaco, like everyone else, was a little suspicious of the local talent.

At his size he'll be a legit back-up plan at Sam if Jaylon gets hurt.

Does this seem like an indication that the staff may actually want him to bulk up to play LB?

That was a huge mistake IMO. Sure you want size, but when you have a pretty rigid set of requirements, you limit the number of kids you can go after. Then you're battling every other major program for these same kids. As long as the size of the kid isn't too small I prefer to go after "players" which looks like BVG is doing.

Who now is in charge of the staff's recruiting process? The head recruiter was Martin, and then became Diaco? Who holds the branch today?

I mostly agree. But to me, the biggest problem was not Diaco insisting on measuables, it was his refusal to go to plan B when plan A was not going to happen. Why let the Austin Hoopers of the world walk? How do you possibly explain slow playing Drue Tranquil based on measurables?

There are a lot of kids who meet the measurables, for every Tuitt, there are a lot of Matsukas and Hounshells. And you have to set priorities. Most people think the correct way to set priorities is to say, I'll take the kids with the highest potential, regardless of measurables. But its not like that is fool proof. A smaller kid who was highly-rated, like Tyler Stockton, doesn't give you much if he doesn't pan out.

If you stick with measurables, on the other hand, at least you'll always end up with some beef. Even John Turner made a couple of vital special team tackles.
