1) Any way you cut it, we have roster room and will probably add some questionable talent.
2) Hubbard isn't questionable talent, kid is a stud.
3) He can play multiple positions.
4) HE WAS ALREADY COMMITED TO ND.

Do we need more reasons?

BK wasn't planning on having roster room. I'm okay w his plan and vision. Hubbard certainly seems to be good no question but he wasn't committed to ND for football and at the time he didn't fit into BK's plans. He may be able to play multiple positions, but which of them does ND appear to be short on? He doesn't fill a loss of Dickerson. Seems ND has planty of studs in any role he'd be asked to fill. Just my opinion.

1. IM8 is a big boy and can fight his own battles

2. I'm obviously trolling.

Generally fighting individual battles happens in PM's (unless Kuhenja or whatever the hell his name is) is involved. Nothing wrong w explaining frustration as a troll job, it's all good.

For college scouts, what clearly separates Uter from the rest of the pack of de-commitments this time of year is his raw athleticism and high ceiling of potential. You just don’t find 6-4 kids who can run and hit like him. His new senior highlight film came out (that you can watch HERE), and you don’t have to be a veteran talent evaluator to know he’s something special.
I think Uter could soar into one of the state’s top 25 overall prospects in the final rankings. Currently, he’s rated at No. 62 in the 247sports.com composite rankings.
Why isn’t Uter ranked higher? Why wasn’t he more heavily-recruited before now? How could so many people miss on him earlier?
For starters, Uter didn’t take football seriously until this year as a senior. Said Slade, “He has always been a big-time baseball prospect. That has always been his No. 1 love. Last summer before this football started, he just hit a switch. We always told him that he could play D1 football if he wanted to, and he just believed it and started working his butt off. He’s under the radar, but the colleges are catching on. He’s a beast. The thing about Cameron, his upside potential is through the roof. If can get the right coach in college, he can take football pretty far.”
Colleges were scared away by baseball. Uter is MLB Draft prospect who will be heavily-scouted in the spring (Here’s one profile). He’s a tall and lanky pitcher who has a fastball clocked at 92mph. He could go in the top 10 rounds. “That was a big reason people shied away,” Slade said. “We didn’t know if he would go straight to the MLB Draft. But now he wants to college and play football. He wants to do both in college. It’s a win-win for him.” Alabama might’ve been deterred by baseball when they inquired about Uter a couple of months ago. “He got a call from Alabama, and that almost brought tears from his eyes,” Slade said. “(Assistant) Chris Rumph recruits this area for Alabama, and that’s when Kameron knew ‘OK, this thing is for real’ when they called right after the season. He plays baseball. I think it was almost like a Jameis Winston thing, and I’m not putting him in this category. But I don’t think Alabama would really entertain the idea of a guy playing two sports, so it kind of fizzled out really quick. But they were very interested in him, if he only wanted to play football.”
Pace Academy is a tiny private school in Atlanta with a relatively new football program (beginning in 2008). There’s not much a football reputation there yet but Slade (in his first year) is working hard to change that. Pace finished 5-5 this year, and just missed the state playoffs, which hurt Uter with recruiters having more opportunities to scout him. However, Pace has a sterling reputation for academics, and grades certainly aren’t an issue for Uter, who has a 3.7 GPA in college prep classes and wants to study engineering. “He could be valedictorian at Pace Academy, if he wants to,” Slade said. “That’s saying a lot when one kid going to Harvard and another one to MIT out of this year’s class. He’s just a good all-around kid.”

His senior film just came out (again, watch it HERE), and it’s much better than his junior film when he didn’t take football as serious. Said one college scout about the senior film, “Looks like a linebacker to me. Physical, quicker than fast … (but) he’s a man among boys in that league.” This past season, Uter played wide receiver but also started on defense at cornerback and safety. “He’s physical,” Slade said. “Iv’e got a motto, ‘No block, no rock.’ He took that slogan to heart. He runs (4.4 in 4) and catches the ball well, but it’s more impressive with the way he blocks people down the field.”
What’s next for Uter? He will sit down with his high school coaches on Monday or Tuesday to review his college options. He wants to go a school that has good academics and will let him play both football and baseball.
Uter has tentatively scheduled an official visit to Arkansas next week. He’s also expected to hear back from Notre Dame, which has also maintained serious interest. “Notre Dame has been by here a lot,” Slade said. “They like him a lot. Notre Dame just wants to make sure their (scholarship) numbers are right at his position before they move forward with an official visit or anything. We should probably know something next week.”

Uter is an under rated prospect who has ton of talent. Huge get if he came to ND. TJ says he's being recruited as an athlete, WR, S, OLB. Get him in the program and see where he fits best. Unbelievable to me that Georgia Tech, which is a 15 minute drive from Pace Academy, has not been all over this kid given his interest in engineering and baseball.

I think it's important for the staff to poach at least one Vandy defector. I feel they need to show that they can pull SEC guys (especially ones who can read and write), who otherwise would be going to SEC.

Not once has BK fielded an 85 man roster or anywhere close to that. He even acknowledged that early in the cycle and said that he would oversign to attrition. Instead, he signed a similar (albeit lower ranked) prospect in Tranquil and didn't oversign to the attrition he admittingly knew would happen. We can say that "he didn't plan on having roster room", but he obviously did since he addressed the subject.

Engineering huh. Yeah GT is pretty much the engineering school of the south. Very surprising.

Can you explain to me where IM8 spun your words? I fail to follow your posts any differently than did IM. Do you suspect we literally will not field a class this year?

I thought he was just saying that signing day hasn't come yet, so nobody's officially part of the 2014 class yet

As somebody who went to GT for engineering before transferring out I wouldn't want to play football there as a WR prospect. I also don't like their method of obviously using students to fund research without much care if they are being taught or not. I had to have a TA for a TA for a TA because the first two didn't speak enough English to actually help, and the professor actually told us to go away and quit interrupting his research. If you can get lucky the first year and a half and get to your major its ok, but about 33% don't get that far because they piss off the students with worthless policies and worthless professors. These are not the things that earn a football prospect's signature and why so many in GA go to Vandy, Auburn, or Mercer for engineering.

May I ask why? GT throws the ball plenty and they have turned out some great NFL talent recently--Calvin Johnson, Demaryius Thomas, and Stephen Hill all being big body WRs to have solid careers there before heading to the league. Thomas and Johnson are two of the best in the league right now

Not recruiting a kid in your back yard that likes the things you actually do well? "You are Georgia Tech, you can do that!"

Not aware of that. I work with and was taught by several GT grads (master and doctorate level). Brilliant people and had glowing praise for the school. It was at the top of my list along with Clemson for post grad studies. That could be a problem if that's the case. Plus I agree about being a WR for a triple option offense.

While that trio of reciecers is impressive, Paul Johnson is still there running the triple option. Not exactly lighting it up through the air. Thomas and Hill both played for Johnson, but I can't imagine many guys with aspirations of playing in the league getting fired up to play WR for the Ramblin Wreck.

Flurry of new offers, means a sprint to the finish. I have faith in Kelly and staff. Hopefully he finds a couple undervalued DTs that fit a role.

I'm just going to say something with the caveat that I've been drinking for a while and I'm a little frustrated about how things have gone for ND with respect to the roster.

Don't Ball State and Purdue and Indiana and Cincinnati and Northwestern and Illinois and Western Michigan and Northern Illinois and Toledo have defensive line recruits? I guarantee that some guy that enrolls in one of those schools this year will end up being good. Go find that guy. Anyone committed to any of those schools would bail on them to come to ND without thinking twice. Every team in the country has three to six guys that play D-line, and most of them have at least one that could make our team next year. How can we possible end up with not enough bodies?! Its insane.

I don't get how numbers can be a problem for ND on a consistent basis. If you don't fill your class with guys you really loved, go take somebody else's recruits to fill out your class. How hard can that be?

We have offered or started recruiting like 4 new DTs just in the past 2 days. They are definitely trying to fill out the class. They aren't settling for a Dickerson loss and nothing.
