We are at 80 with no 5th years right now. Figure Moore and Lombard are locks to come back, so we have 3 spots for targets / additional 5th years with no more attrition. Obviously if other transfers pop up, that # grows.

Or if we have a decommit, which almost always happens.

I'll believe that we trot out an 85 man roster when we actually do.

Already had one decommit. Hopefully that's the only one. More confident about not losing guys this year at the end than any other year in recent memory.

You referring to Anzalone or Darby? Or Tratou?

I'll bet you $10M vbucks that we lose somebody else before by the end of NSD or one of our signees doesn't make it to spring.

I'll take that bet. IM or anyone else who commits from this point on don't count. Deal?

I would want to include anybody that commits going forward too, but their commitment has to be widely accepted as ok'd by the staff (i.e. McKenzie doesn't count until he is clearly part of the class) Deal?

My bet is that we will lose a recruit by a decommitment by NSD or they don't make it to spring for whatever academic/social reason (i.e. Tee or EddieV).

We could call enrollment day as payout day.

Yeah, it's funny because there have been some dudes who have waffled... but it's surprisingly looking like they'll all make it to the finish line. Would have to be a really big shocker out of leftfield to lose someone at this point (or coaches would have to leave). We're really in a poor position right now if someone were to defect, because there are practically no contingency targets on the board. The ship has sailed on Hendrix, Brown, etc.

I bet that we don't lose a commit to a decommit, and that no kids that ND allows to sign on NSD don't report in June.

Personally I still think....
  • Luata gets an offer soon from SC and takes it, or just jumps to UCLA, and he gone
  • Hill finally gets a Longhorn offer and he gone...

Why would USC offer now after just getting a 4 star TE commit, and deciding not to offer all this time considering how many times they have seen him? Just don't see that happening personally.

Hill getting a Texas offer could happen I guess, but all mods / people in the know seem to think that ship has sailed for Kolin and he is sold on ND. Guess we will have to wait and see. I have 10 million vbucks on the fact we have nothing to worry about.

I think Luatua is locked in. Don't see him getting an offer from either place, and don't think he would take the UCLA offer if it came.

Hill is my #1 "high risk" kid right now. Nothing personally about him, seems like a really great kid. But if Charlie Strong comes calling late in the game you have to think that's going to be a very tough decision for him. It's not like he's had a very long relationship with ND to build a super strong bond.

Yeargin is another guy to watch. Was definitely looking around hard, regardless of what has been said after the fact. But I do think he's definitely leaning towards sticking right now and I'd be very surprised if he jumped ship. Very, very surprised. Kuehnja is about to make some $$ off me.

Good to hear about Luatua. I keep hearing grumblings but I think it's the same old grumblings from the earlier tweets and interview.

Why did you have to tell me about Yeargin. Ruined my peaceful easy feeling today LOL. He's one that I really like in this class. Paranoid till Feb now :)

Those mods didn't know Strong was going to get the job until recently. So I don't buy that they know whether Strong would be interested or not. Furthermore, what if A&M or Houston comes calling? Both could end up using another LB and both are closer to home than even Austin.

I could easily see him bailing in the 11th hour.

I think IM8 is saying Kolin isnt going to be interested if they call.

Sorry I think we have a disconnect here. Mods don't know Strong's interest level or not - they have only spoken to Hill's level of comfort with his ND verbal and interest in other suitors, namely Texas. I have gained confidence because most individuals 'in the know' seems confident Hill would not flip even if approached by Texas or other schools.

Obviously it's recruiting and they are 17 year old kids, so he could change his mind, but most seem confident he sticks no matter what. I choose to put stock in that. We'll see how it turns out.

Ahh… I see. I hope he has no interest if they call. That being said… it's pretty easy to tell reporters that you won't be interested when it looks like they won't be calling anyway. Kinda how Briles wasn't interested in the Texas HC position. lol

Very true. No debating that. I just hope he was honest and/or Strong isn't even interested and we have nothing to worry about. I think Hill is a diamond in the rough - would be a blow if we somehow lost him. Time will tell, but I'm obviously optimistic on keeping him (along with everyone else).

I just noticed that Juju is in the "Guys we have a shot at" category, rather than the "Guys we are squarely in the race for" category. Is it the consensus that we need a "significant change in the status quo" to land Juju? While USC does seem to have gotten a recent boost, on BGI they've been saying that it could go either way. To the extent we can rely on Wiltfong (as we usually do), Juju should be in the "Guys we are squarely in the race for" category, right? I don't subscribe to other sites though so maybe BGI is an outlier in this regard.

The status quo is that he is going to USC. Anyone who tells you otherwise is ill-informed or trolling for page views or both. We've got a shot at him, but it's going to take some magic to keep him away from USC.

The difference between the two categories are the "squarely in the race" means ND is in a top group and there isn't a clear favorite, while the "we have shot at" means there is a presumed leader that isn't ND.

So who is saying that USC is the presumed leader for Juju? Is that something you aren't at liberty to reveal? Wiltfong, "the Oracle," is one of the people saying that it's a toss-up for Juju, unless I missed where he changed his tune. I thought he was one of the guys we can trust in this business. I guess I'm surprised at the vehemence of this response.

I am very, very confident that USC is the favorite right now and I'll leave it at that. Also, USC commits, mods, and some current players consider him a stone-cold lock. We're going to need a late surge due to an amazing in home visit and likely poor OV to USC to win the race. I don't really expect that to happen, but it could.

I'm sorry because I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but if we take 27 (including 2 EEs) does that mean we can't take any EEs in the next class? Or would that not matter because those EEs could count towards 2015 with the rest of their classmates?

No offense, but who cares at this point?
