One must believe he understands how BK uses TEs....:sigh:

I mean, Niklas is currently showing Luatua or anyone else for that matter that an in-line, blocking TE has a huge role in this offense (although not a sexy one).

I'm happy that he's more than willing to put his hand in the dirt and be a blocker. I'd rather have that than a guy who thinks a TE is all about being a former basketball player and just catching the football.

Uhm... Niklas played all over this year. Much like Eifert did last year although Niklas was inline more this year due to our inability to run but BK likes having a TE split out as much as he does inline particularly if there are two TEs on the field.

When Niklas is split out, he's blocking literally almost every time.

Yep.... And Luatua does not think that is where a TE should be...just weird really.

But Niklas is still in-line more times than not, so I don't know why you don't think Luatua's still a perfect fit. Niklas is used completely different than Eifert was. Almost always on the line, and when he's not, he's just an outside blocker.

I just think Luatua is used to being in-line based on his highlight film.

All I read about him is that he could be very versatile on offense. All the prognosticators projected him to be able to be an h-back or a inline or out TE. BK uses his TEs many different ways and one with his supposed abilities would think he would not say stuff like that. JMO. Niklas was used the way he was out of necessity. Early in the year he was split out for screens and match ups but as the year went on they kept in on the line for run blocking. I think he will be used more next year with Golson.

i'm starting to get a little worried about this commitment and a month ago i would have never thought i'd have that feeling toward him.

i mean i think he'll sign with us, but he's starting to turn into a bit of a headache for me personally

The best thing about Tyler's film is his blocking and tenacity. I hope he does love doing that stuff because that's what I want him doing for us.

Agreed, Niklas is a different TE than Eifert. Koyack is almost identical to Eifert is terms of skill-set, but I dont think he will reach the level that Eifert got to. though I still think he has plenty of talent to be a mid-round draft pick.

I'm not one to cut away at kids tweets or whatever you call them, as I don't even have a twitter, but I could see other teams using that as a negative recruiting pitch. "Notre Dame uses their tight ends all over the field which will not prepare you for the blocking you will have to be ver good at on the pro level." of something similar.

Obviously that is a drastic generalization of the position but coaches from other schools will say anything when they know a 17 to 18 year old kid is hanging onto their every word.

And then Kelly pulls out the TE NFL chart and reads: Carlson, John, Fasano, Anthony, Rudolph, Kyle, Eifert, Tyler soon to be Niklas, Troy and to a lesser extent Fauria, Joe.

Which is why he is committed to us in the first place. I understand this and I am sure he does to, but it doesn't stop other coaches from trying to tell him otherwise. You know other coaches aren't just going to concede that Notre Dame is a better place for tight ends, so they have to make their argument somehow.

Hey don't forget Koyack, he surged during the second half of the season last year and he has the potential to go to the NFL.

ya, Koyack will definitely get drafted... I think he will be at least a mid-rounder.

Bars will reportedly fall a bit as well. Isaiah McKenzie will get a 4th star.

Keep in mind though, these things are highly subjective, and some positions are put in position to excel while others can't really shine. Hell, Jameis Winston was apparently terrible at UA practices his senior year in high school, and how did he turn out?

Just another reason not to get too caught up in ratings.

Odd to me with him playing LT in the Under Armour game. I guess #4 OT might be a tad lofty, but I really don't know who behind him you'd slate over him right now at tackle.

Anything on Trumbetti's ranking??

from all reports it just looks like he was "good" with Trumbetti, I don't think he did enough to get his 4th.
Luatua was quiet as he has been for a while and will get his 3rd star
McKenzie will get his 4th star
Bars should drop a little, but look who he went up against.
