FWIW, his twitter page has been edited to include ND stadium in the background and some ND banner.

There was no ND pics on it last week.

He looks like a bigger longer Sheldon Day to me. I think he fits well for the Irish.

I would debate you on this point, Bogs. His Hudl profile lists him at 225lbs. That's a little smaller than Day.

If we land another ILB in this cycle (hopefully Sykes and Morgan) there won't be any discussion about him as a possible ILB. Most of his highlights are him chasing the QB so I worry about his ability to adapt to pass coverage.

Didn't someone say that he used to play safety or something? I vaguely remember reading something about how good he is in coverage ... could be mistaken.

But I agree with you, hopefully we will land Sykes and Morgan and then we won't have to think about Yeargin playing inside. He's like Okwara ... he has the athleticism to play all over, but I think he's best used as an OLB.

That would make me feel much better. Then his position could sort itself out. Bring him in as a defensive athlete and plug him where he performs the best during camp.

Size-Strength-Range
Has a long, rangy build that will need to add bulk, but at this stage plays with good strength which allows him to operate in tight spaces. Is not overly sudden in his movement skills but anticipates well and plays fast with high-effort pursuit, which increases his overall range.
Instincts/Take On Skills
As a run supporter he flows well and his burst to the ball is above average with generally sound pursuit angles. Might struggle versus bigger blockers when locked in a phone booth but shows the quickness to avoid and side step. Needs to improve strength to stack and be consistent having edge responsibilities.
Tackling
A solid tackler and can operate in space, breaking down and staying in control. Will wrap up and get ball carriers off their feet when in position. Angles are a bit inconsistent and he can come in too hot and leave feet at times. Not a run-through or heavy hitter, but does flash ability to strike on occasion.
3rd Down Capabilities
Above-average instincts and athleticism as a space player. Flashes the ability to match up with TEs or RBs. Does show some tightness in hips but has quick feet and enough agility to handle underneath zone responsibilities. Best attribute at this time is his ability to be disruptive as a pass rusher from a couple different alignments. Might be more productive from a linebacker position when set free to pressure rather than read and react with hand in the ground. Will blitz and shoot gaps, possessing natural leverage as a rusher and flashes the ability to dial up effective speed to power moves. Limited torso flexibility and does not show ability to consistently bend and shave the corner as a pass rusher. Can improve hand usage but flashes quick hands and arm length to work with.
Bottom Line
Yeargin is a versatile prospect with experience and productivity lining up in multiple roles within the defensive front-seven. Shows the ability to play with his hand in the ground and get after the passer or drop back and play in space from a two-point. A tweener OLB/DE who could remain on the first level if he is able to gain weight and strength, but his athletic ability coupled with his leaner size will most likely land him as an OLB with pass rush capabilities, at least to start his career.

Lol I went back through the thread trying to figure out where I read that Yeargin used to play safety. Check out connect_the_dots's post from August 5 and my response, which I'll reiterate:

I also don't understand the speed thing. As a freshman and sophomore, Yeargin played safety. He grew into a linebacker/rush DE. This kid has football quickness and coverage skills. I'm talking Jaylon Smith, Matthew Thomas coverage skills. Playing for 7 on 7 south Florida Express, he showed those skills in practice against Ermon Lane, Sam Bruce, Travis Rudolph, and Johnnie Dixon. This year, playing for University, he will be on one of the best high school football teams in the nation. Yeargin, Sam Bruce, Sean White, Wilson, Scarlett will be drawing a lot of attention to south Florida football. University has regular season games against Manatee, Booker T, and Miami Northwest. At the end of the season, I expect to be seeing him showcase his skills at one of the All Star games.

God this guy is perfect for us. A guy with the body of a defensive end and the coverage skills of a safety? That's exactly the kind of linebacker we want. What a great pickup for Diaco's D.

For a modestly-rated guy, he's an extremely important recruit for us, imo. That kind of versatility is what we want in an OLB.

The Orlando Sentinel just released their most recent 2014 Top Florida 100 list. Behind the usual suspects, Sony Michel, Dalvin Cook, Joseph Yearby, Richard Yeargin is surprisingly(I am not surprised) listed at number 6. Corey Holmes lands at 22 on their list, Charles Nelson is at 23, and Isaiah McKenzie is at 53. Yeargin is ahead of the likes of Bo Scarbrough, K C McKermott, Khairi Clark, Ermon Lane, David Sharpe, and Chad Thomas. This is quite a jump from the preseason poll they conducted.
