The guy who bumped this thread needs to take a lap. I read the first two pages thinking it was breaking news until I noticed the dates.
I say ND makes its own brand and screw em all!! Domer Duds

That was me tough guy. Thanks for the advice.
While I "get" the "sarcasm font," it's not a bad idea. American source the design, production, distribution, marketing and advertising; and you've got a deal.
Notre Dame is America's college football team, be it pro or anti. It could provide additional funding for heating campus buildings, academic scholarships and stadium fiddlings.
Humor and tone of voice are lost on some people. I said "take a lap," I didn't insult your wife.

And he said "thanks for the advice" and called you a tough guy. He didn't tell you to EAD and die.

While I prefer natural vegetation, I do have an asphalt driveway and concrete sidewalks and steps. Time marches on.
Should the natural turf be removed, I imagine that big bucks could be made selling it. Who wouldn't want a tuft of ND stadium grass as a centerpiece on their dining room table?
Damnit! lol well played
Point being sometimes progress is good. I don't see the point in cutting off our nose to spite our face. If turf is what the program wants, then why not? As has been mentioned many times before, Lambeau Field was able to pull it off in a sensible manner.
We should also put a lid on the stadium. That way the weather will always be perfect and the crowd noise will be louder.
I just want to know when it became wrong to play an outdoor sport in less than ideal conditions?

Yes, because that is clearly what I and everyone else in favor of field turf is asking for...
My grandfather's ashes belong where they were spread, and not on your family's dining room table. Should a crass sale of the stadium's turf become a reality, certain liturgical requirements for possessing this sacred ground should be in place. One - the entire Office of the Dead should be recited on All Souls Day. Two - at meals, and after grace, the requiem aeternam pray should be said by all family members. The English version of the pray(Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord) is acceptable, and all participants can expect to receive the appropriate plenary indulgences.
Grass in the northwest just isnt practical when there is a better product out there. If ND was a running a triple option attack, or a Stanford power run game, I would be more inclined to stick with the natural grass. But, Kelly is building a team that can play fast, and use their speed to their advantage. Some people say its the same surface, both teams play on it.....Look at the games ND played on turf. Arizona St was a team filled with speed and would give ND fits. ND arguably played faster that night. Michigan....they played fast.
I love it. I want that jumbotron too. A lil pre-game video showing the team walking down the steps slapping the sign LIVE...is only going to get that crowd fired up from the start.
What's the difference? A grass field is less than perfect and that's what y'all object to. Rain and wind also create less-than-perfect conditions so why not eliminate those as well?

... because some dirt on his uniform gives you an erection.
Because some people are fine with dealing with the weather but not a sloppy field? They can be mutually exclusive arguments.
Tarean Folston shouldn't have to slip while making cuts all game long because some dirt on his uniform gives you an erection.
But seriously, what's the difference? Everyone has a problem with mud, but wind, rain, snow, cold, and sun-in-your-eyes are all acceptable.
But that's not really a difference between the turf argument and the reductio ad absurdum argument that we should just build a dome. Keeping rain off the field would improve conditions AT LEAST as much as an artificial surface would. May I ask why you're opposed to a dome? My guess is your answer is somewhere along the lines of aesthetics and/or tradition. That same argument applies to the grass. You might not think it outweighs the other considerations, but to dismiss the argument entirely requires you to also accept a dome to maintain intellectual consistency. The difference is that the field conditions can at least somewhat be controlled with the addition of a more "sturdy" playing surface, and it isn't a complete hassle to do so.
I'd be happy with the 5% artificial stuff. The problem is, BK said "FieldTurf". FieldTurf is a name brand and it's 100% artificial. The field surface is replaced constantly as it is, so it's not hard to substitue some type of artifical (even if its that 5% artificial stuff) turf in place of the grass they are constantly replacing.
That's the biggest misconception in this entire conversation. Artificial turf is still slippery in the rain and the snow, and can be even worse since you can't wear true cleats (depending on the specific type of surface used).Even if it rains/snows/windstorms etc., the playing surface will at least remain stable.
