Where would Mich St be ranked if they were 12-0?

I've been thinking about this a lot recently, as they easily could have beaten us this year. I really have no idea if they'd be #3 right now and playing for a chance at the NC this weekend, or if they'd be #6 and stuck behind the 1-loss SEC teams still.

If OSU gets to be #2 based on the fact that they're an undefeated AQ team, then MSU should at least be #3.

They would be #4 in my opinion, maybe even #5.

The crazy thing is, where would Mizzou be if they had not lost in double overtime with their back-up QB. Also, they really need a better SID...they should be playing the LSU "we are undefeated in regulation" card and push their way to #3 right now.

They started out low and their offense impressed no one which kept them low. They would be in the top10, probably top 6, but I think they still might be frozen out.

I don't know what MSU did to the football gods, but damn they sure got the short end of the stick. And had Wisconsin not lost to PSU they would have gotten hosed again for playing in their own BIG championship.

I feel bad for Dantonio, well more for the players..

4th. They'd be ahead of Mizzou, but not Auburn. There's a reason there are already two two-loss teams ahead of them.
They started low and really haven't beaten anyone of note (at least OSU beat Wisconsin and FSU beat Clemson. MSU's marquee win is, what, Nebraska?)
Now, were they to beat Ohio State, they might jump into second, but right now I think it'd be tough. Anyway, doesn't matter, thanks to us.

Most of that game South Carolina was also playing with its backup QB, FWIW. Also, unlike Auburn, Mizzou has no wins over current Top 20 teams.
Probably couldn't happen, but it would be tremendous if, somehow, MSU and Mizzou wound up playing for the title. Just to mess with everyone.

I meant to add this to the beginning of my post, but forgot it. If MSU were 12-0, that would mean they beat us obviously, so their win over us would be comparable to OSU's win over Wisky. They have also played 6 of the same opponents as OSU, and they won by a greater margin against 4 of those 6. I think they'd have a good argument for #3 right now, I just think people would have a tough time putting them ahead of the 1-loss SEC teams. It would be fascinating to see who would be ranked #2 between a 13-0 MSU team and a 12-1 Auburn/Mizzou team. OSU has the name recognition and the high preseason ranking, but a 13-0 OSU and a 13-0 MSU would have virtually the same resume.

They would be #3 but should be #2. Their resume would clearly be better than OSUs.

it would be a push...we would become MSU's best win other than nebraska, iowa, or minnesota.

in all reality their resumes are quite identical, which is good for both teams since they haven't played each other this year to duke it out and see whose better.

worked out well for the BIG they're ratings saturday night are going to be HUGE. good for FOX

IF MSU beat ND, The Irish would be 7-5 hardly comparable to Wisconsin's 9-3.

Sagarin lists MSU with the 60th toughest schedule. OSU is #61, FSU is #66.

Not sure I follow this, didn't Wisconsin lose to OSU, giving them a conference loss? Plus, isn't Wisconsin in the other division?

I think he's saying the Rose Bowl may have selected Wisky over MSU for an at-large spot due to MSU theoretically losing at the end of the year in the B10 Champ. Happened in 2010 when Michigan (10-2) got picked over MSU (10-3) as an at-large even though MSU won the head to head.

EDIT: wow MSU always gets screwed

2008: 10-2 NO BCS
2010: 11-1 NO BCS
2011: 10-3 NO BCS

My own guess is probably 6th.

They came off a below expectations 2012...started 2012 with the same complete and total lack of offense they carried all 2012...and slowly worked their way up to competent. Cook's first start was the ND game if I remember correctly. This matched with the issues the B1G is facing as far as lack of competitiveness means that respect for Sparty has been slow and grudging even with the #1 rated D all year and the first time ever a B1G team has won all its conference games by double digits. Dantonio is building a solid program there but I don't think they will ever be looked at as elite and that alone will keep them rated lower than SEC teams.

I would have them at # 2 if they were undefeated. They are a more well rounded team than OSU.

Which is why Dantonio and Sparty's first goal every year is crush scUM...then win B1G...get to Rose Bowl...get to NC...in that order. Spartans are like 5 of last 6 vs them.

How do you figure? They're in opposite divisions.

MSU has terrible timing. They always seem to have their best years when someone else (be it Wisconsin recently or OSU this year) is having a slightly better year.
