Aside from Morgan and maybe Holley, are there any "big dogs" left that we have better than, say, one in three odds of landing?

Elam would be right around that correct?? It's down to just us and Bama with Bama leading...

I like this guy^^^

Indeed, I think he's been great with recruiting since his arrival. I like the buzz he generates, and his commitment to being "over the top" when he needs to be...like the pot of gold to Elam to top Kentucky's.

IDK who this guy is or what the 'recruiting analyst' does, but he's quickly becoming one of my favorite people I've never known lol.

Does that mean something will happen soon, or just he knows something.

IDK, it could mean anything. Could be a commit? Could be that they're sending a shitload of mail again? Could be that someone is visiting ND? Could be that coaching movements have opened up an opportunity to a new name?

IDK.

I hate recruiting. I could be so much more in life if not for this lol.

He's The Turning Point of ND. It's official "Buzz Buzz" and I like it.

I'm thinking a "pot of gold" refers to a large amount of ND letters, like what he sent Elam, and that "you ain't seen nothing yet" means that he's sending more than the 200 letters he sent to Elam to someone.

JR Sandlin is more or less in charge of all the background work involved in recruiting. Everything but the hands on contact that only coaches are allowed to have. He is basically bringing SEC style effort to our recruiting game... minus the hookers, $$$, cars, etc.

Fantastic add to the staff.

Is this a position that is new to ND? If not, why the hell didn't we have one and who was the RA before? Do most schools have a RA?

Is his job to basically make the coaches job easier, planning trips, making calls, etc?

Pot of Gold just refers to an avalanche of mail heading someone's way... not necessarily an indication of a commitment coming.

When he tweets an emoji shamrock about one of the classes... then that's "buzz buzz"

Instead of mail, let's send a ND parade to Elam's house, much like Aladdin's arrival to the Palace.

It's new. I believe he was hired when we the NCAA was considering going Wild West with recruiting rules to run the show, and then that didn't quite happen.

There are certain recruiting things that only coaches can do per NCAA rules. Literally everything else runs through him. It's like how the director of football operations handles all logistics for the team... Sandlin is that, but for recruiting. I'm surprised he doesn't have a better title... actually, didn't he used to have a better title?

It's funny, because ND football was just way behind the 8-ball in getting around to having full time recruiting support staff. I'm sure we spent good money to get Sandlin, but we still probably don't have a tenth of the support of an Alabama.

IDK, I'm growing indifferent to Luatua.

He's at a position of surplus whether he's a TE or OLB, and he got knocked hard during the camp setting, and he took another hit on 247 today it looks like. Seems to be overrated at a position we don't need IMO. IDK the numbers on this, but I don't think guys that earn high ratings early on and continue to get slowly knocked down as NSD approaches don't turn out to do too well. Services don't want to admit they over/under sold, so marginal bumps/knocks happen instead of big jumps for the most part. I wouldn't be surprised if they oversold quite a bit, and are just giving him a small knock so they don't raise a fuss about it. Maybe he just didn't develop like they expected him too based on his junior year? Or maybe I'm dead wrong and he'll be a stud.

I'll welcome him if he comes, but he's not going to change my opinion of this class one way or another.

no in terms of position it was always "available"; however we used different admin staff for other purposes ie -The move comes after head coach Brian Kelly lost one of his key behind-the-scenes staffers earlier this year when director of football personnel Tim McDonnell took a scouting position with the New York Giants.-,J.R. Sandlin enters his first year as the recruiting analyst for the Notre Dame football team. In this role, Sandlin will work with the program's recruiting efforts, handle special projects assigned by head coach Brian Kelly and assist in the social media strategies and execution of the football program.
He joined the Irish program after serving as the director of recruiting at Tenneessee in 2013. Prior to UT, Sandlin was part of the recruiting staff at the University of Alabama from 2010-12. The Crimson Tide captured back-to-back national championships in 2011 and 2012. Alabama secures the top-ranked recruiting classes in the nation in both '11 and '12. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the recruiting department for the Crimson Tide.

Sandlin spent the 2009 season as tight ends coach, chief football administrator and director of player personnel at Oxford High School in Alabama.

Sandlin served as recruiting specialist at UCF in 2008-09. He was offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach, director of player personnel and executive football administrator at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, Ala., from 2007-08.

Sandlin was a scholarship tight end at University of Central Florida from 2005-07. He was part of the Golden Knights' Conference USA championship team in '05. Sandlin graduated from UCF in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in sports and fitness. He earned a master's degree in sport management from the University of Alabama in '12.

--want to know his impact from other places: He handles a lot of the marketing. The "Rise to the Top" thing was his idea, the 102 letters to the recruit was his idea(he did it sort of at bama), as well as a lot of other stuff. Everything you see Tennessee doing right now is his plan. He's working close with Butch and advising on how to Tennessee more visible with recruits. Not saying he makes or breaks Tennessee recruiting, but he's done a VERY good job so far.
I would disagree -- I think he has done a Phenomenal job so far.

The good news with Luatua is that he is versatile and an elite athlete. The bad news is everything else you said. I really do believe that Kelly is great at molding people and developing talent. He turn Harrison Smith into a 1st round draft pick from a guy who was positionless under Weis. He took Nix from a homesick, out of shape, and ineffective player into a dominant force of nature. So I do truly believe that if you gave him an athlete like Luatua he could mold him into an impact player somewhere.

I've been pretty consistent in saying I like Schultz the best of any TE prospect in a bunch of threads, and that I think Weishar can be a beast offensively. I've heard multiple places that the staff was VERY high on Weishar, and I think anyone who has seen what he has done recently realizes why.

I went back and forth with dwshade in some thread (maybe Tyler's?) about all of this... bottom line is that I'd welcome Luatua (and I think we should all be thrilled to have him) but Schultz is the real diamond and Luatua has his value from his athletic traits NOT his current productivity, abilities, demeanor, etc.

We'll see what happens.

I have said many times Luatua is a beast and all the noise with the recruiting sites are bs. He will be wonderful part of the 85 and ends up tearing it up at ilb.

I thought he's only been mentioned at CAT or TE?

I posted this before, but this is my vision of Diaco on first day of practice next year:
