Washington has beat exactly three teams ranked at the time the last 3 seasons. Blown out many times. I don't see the fear in this hire...

In what world is Oregon not "that good"?

Who has Oregon beat? UCLA? They were DESTROYED by Arizona and the Stanford game wasn't as close as the final score. They would probably kill a team like ND but they really don't have an impressive resume at all.

People who are panicking about Sark were gonna panic about anyone SC hired. Not too concerned...

This.

SC was going to hire someone good, and they settled for a coach who's 34-29 and is addicted to giving up 40/50+ everytime he's played someone good.

He has no track record of producing a strong defense. I can't imagine that will play well with the USC faithful.

Yup, agreed.
Sark is a better coach than Kiffy, but thanks not saying much.
I think U$C under Sark will be an 8-9 win a year kind of team, maybe if the stars align a10-11 win team every once in a while.
Good team, but not great.

Coach O and Diaco together would have Alex Anzalone and Greenberry in ND uniforms by spring.

Someone who is worried about this hire give me some reason other than a perceived recruiting boost. Give me anything.

I’m not worried about it (In fact I don't see many here who are), but some reasons to not laugh it off would be:
1.) He was a homerun his first time around with SC.
2.) He took a program that had fallen into D 1 laughing stock status and turned them back to respectable.
3.) If he can win 7 games a year at Washington you have to think he can win more at SC.
4.) I live out here, when SC hired Petey, SC fans were aghast and SC haters rejoiced… lesson learned.
5.) Oh, and yeah, recruiting.

So you think Sark is that much better than Sumlin, Peterson, Del Rio, and Franklin?

I think they are all fine coaches... Sumlin is a bit overrated though imo and is a 'just outscore them' coach... I think there is a lot of lateral movement on that list honestly.

Better than Del Rio for sure. Regardless, not the point. I think your statement that anyone who is concerned with this hire would be concerned with ANY hire is a ridiculous and unfounded statement.

Wasn't he mostly just the QB coach? I think maybe OC for one year? So he's good at developing QBs, but what else?

2.) He took a program that had fallen into D 1 laughing stock status and turned them back to respectable.

UW has a pretty good football history and we all know what Ty Willingham can do to programs. I feel like any average coach could make that team respectable.

3.) If he can win 7 games a year at Washington you have to think he can win more at SC.

Maybe. I don't see him taking USC to BCS games anytime soon. Will take at least 3 seasons IMO

4.) I live out here, when SC hired Petey, SC fans were aghast and SC haters rejoiced… lesson learned.
5.) Oh, and yeah, recruiting.
Someone mentioned their class this year was ranked 72nd. Not that scary. I think a lot of the prowess is perceived rather than factual. Plus UW recruits seem surprised and pissed which will hurt him down the line.

...because this was Sark this year...

funny-soon-meme-pics-images-photos-pictures.jpg

OK, but last year he had 22 recruits and only 7 of them were 4 stars. The rest were 3 stars. Washington barely cracked the top 20 in recruiting rankings last year. In all the years that I've been following recruiting, I cannot remember a Huskie class that knocked my socks off, and certainly not during Sark's tenure. Maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention, but I think his recruiting chops are overblown.

I think you are vastly underestimating the job it took to turn Washington around... they were a dumpster fire when he got there... and I disagree with "any average coach could have done it"...

anyway, time will tell... it's definitely not the sexy hire Sumlin would have been... beyond that I don't know, could end poorly for SC, could be Petey version 2.0...

Nope, misinterpreted my statement. I assumed you knew that SC would hire a great coach, but I guess I was wrong.

Right. I'll add to #1, that first time around was under Pete Carroll, who had a pretty damn good run, and you never know which of a great coach's disciples will be able to duplicate the master's success. Two of Bill Parcells' assistants are Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin ... two more are Charlie Weis and Al Groh.

Kiffin was a Weis ... is Sark a Weis? Or is he a Belichick?

Keep in mind that Belichick was shitty with the Browns.

Like ACamp, I'm not worried about Sark ... just kind of playing devil's advocate and saying anything could happen.

We'll just because he didn't end up with certain recruits doesn't mean he's not a great recruiter. I think he got a lot of highly rated recruits to consider Washington when they wouldn't have otherwise, and ended up the bridesmaid quite a bit. Have to think at USC he's going to close the deal better.

But I'm ok with the hire. The guy has no history of being able to play defense.
