I don't think most around here realize how much the players/alums/fans loved Orgeron and how absolutely pissed they are about this hire. Would be like ND going out and hiring Paul Crist.

or Dayne

Kifin recruited pretty damn good too, and while sark and tosh can probly recruit better i dont think it would make that much of a drastic difference. The coaching is the main thing, USC will get elite talent no matter what. It kinda sucks theyll recruit so well but unless theyre really good coaches it shouldnt be a big deal. We'll just have to see but i dont see them going back to Carroll type of teams

All reports here on the West Coast have Tosh/Wilcox going with him FWIW.

I was listening to Wilcox's brother (he's the host on local sports talk here in Portland) he's convinced that it's happening.

The more research I do on Sark, the more I think this could be a disaster hire. Dude doesn't win big games, doesn't have any momentum, and doesn't connect with his kids. Obviously I'm a biased ND fan but I don't think there's anything to worry about until proven otherwise.

But it does guarantee ND recruiting in SoCal just got that much more difficult.

Wasn't going to be easier no matter who they hired. It's friggin SC. They'll always have top 10 recruiting classes.

If you want to sit there and bite your nails over Sark and Tosh in SoCal, by all means no one is stopping you lol...but if I were a coach at ND I'd just show recruits ND's record over the past 4 years vs Sark's at Washington. Nuff said.

Concerned from a recruiting standpoint - especially short term(this year). Not concerned about on the field results.

Recruits react to the News of Steve Sarkisians departure for USC

Kaleb McGary 4 star DE considering UW said:
"I asked him a while ago when the job first opened up, he told me he had no reason to leave and he had the chance when he left USC to coach there. It floors me. I feel as if I've been told one thing and he did another. I feel disappointed that it wasn't even mentioned to me and he was considering it after I was told he wouldn't leave."

Did Ed O and Sark get along? I saw Sark and Norm Chow very much dislike each other and are not on speaking terms

I don't get it the worrying. Kiffin was also an amazing recruiter. Weis was an amazing recruiter. Recruiting matters, but only when the coaching is there to utilize recruits to their full potential.

Will Sark be a homerun? Maybe, who knows. But guys like Peterson and Franklin have a better track record of maximizing available talent.

^^^^^^^^^^^This.

Yes good for Ed O. I can't imagine having to be a assistant HC with Kiffin, only to turn around his pants party and still end up an assistant HC to a chump who bolted the pants party for a dumpster fire.

I don't buy all of the worry about Sark. Too me he's not a great choice. I think he's a half step above Kiffin.

“@HeismanPundit: Sarkisian had big USC boosters in his corner who're more interested in being buddy-buddy with new coach than winning national championships.”

I smell a dumpster fire burning already

I think this is a decent hire for fUSC, he is better than Kiffin no doubt, but I could think of a lot of worse scenarios. Franklin would be a much worse situation IMO, for us. I like the hire, by the time Sark gets settled in, Coach Kelly will have us purring and I see us routinely smashing them. I do not see them as a national power with this hire, maybe back to the top of the PAC.

There is no way Pat Haden was hiring Ed O as the face of that program!

i knew and have been saying all along there was no way Haden was going to let "Coach O" run that program much less remain there.

Haden wants a clean slate.

i think Sark can and will do well out there just my opinion.

Mediocre coaches should do well at a place like SC...they could've hit it out of the ball park with this hire but I think they went very conservative here...even if Sark has a history with the program that these kids know very well...I think they'll obviously see a net gain due to the scholarship sanctions being lifted, but I'm not sure it'll be due to Sark's amazing coaching ability...Hey, is Shaq Thompson looking to transfer???

. Great coach plus he's bringing Tosh with him and maybe Wilcox. Xbox live bill will be through the roof though.
