They're having a great season, on the other hand. If they win that will be a great environment.

What kind of academic comittment does their athletic department make?

Read "The System". Mizzou fits in quite well with SEC schools.

Good! It sounds like he is a smart kid, so that is something he'll likely consider seriously.

Visiting on Senior Day was a good thing. Lots of good emotions.

But living 30ish minutes will be the difference maker, IMHO.

I love our chances!

I think that could be as well but just so everyone knows. He told BGI that distance will have nothing to do with his decision.

Good to know, thanks!

I still think the idea of your parents driving 40 minutes to see you play at one of the premier schools in the country is hard to turn down. His parents will have to fight to hold back the smiles every time he mentions the possibility.

But the real issue to me is whether ND was part of his world growing up. When it is, the Irish have a VERY good chance of landing most recruits. Some of the Michigan kids see the world as a competition between Michigan, Mich. St., and the Buckeyes. His Coach basically said that when ND comes knocking they are going to get a long look. I am going off that angle.

To me, his living 30 miles from campus means that he is much less likely to undervalue what ND offers, and much more likely to consider it a really exciting offer.

According to Josh Helmholdt from Rivals (covers Midwest) Williams was timed at 4.56 in the 40 at a Michigan St. camp last summer. Also appears his frame is such that he's a cat LB and likely to play in the 245-255 range once developed.

Weird. His own coach says he runs a 4.9 (but will improve in a college S&C program).

Pete Sampson went to Berrien Springs today to interview Williams (bright kid) and also talked to his coach. Coach says Williams runs the 40 in the 4.5's. Watching him run down an opponent from behind on tape and you can see he can really run.

He is a fast kid, but the kid he was chasing down was really slow. haha.

My buddy's little brother goes to school in Berrien Springs and he said that there was a real buzz going around the school when ND offered. He said that the people that knew Jhonathon well were excited about his Mizzou committment, but there wasn't the hullaboo about that like there was about Notre Dame.

There are a lot of people in our corner here.

Whoops, I just re-read the Wiltfong article that I was referencing, and Jhonny's coach clearly told Wiltfong that Jhonny runs in the 4.5s. I have no idea where I got 4.9 from. Sorry Jhonny.

It originally said 4.9, it was a typo. You aren't crazy.

He's an impressive kid in the video interview he did with Sampson. An ND type kid without a doubt.

We have a lot of secondary thing sin our favor that Mizzou can't match.

1. He said distance won't matter, but it will when he hears everyone at school talking about coming to watch him.
2. His parents will tell him how much easier it will be for them to get to the games.
3. Growing up that close to SB he and his parents knows what type of academic institution ND is.
4. Going to ND to play football will create a bigger buzz than playing for Mizzou.
5. Mizzou is having a great year, but they don't have the track record or tradition the Irish have.

We're in a very good position.

You'd have to be nuts to pick Mizzou over Notre Dame. I know they're having a good year, but that's just not a big-time program.

Does it concern anyone else that michigan state has not offered yet? They are the best at sniffing out unheralded defensive players and Williams is in their back yard. Love his size and we need bodies to be sure.

Sounds like he's too intelligent for them to offer him.

Maybe he doesn't fit into their scheme? Maybe he was simply overlooked? Maybe they reached out early and he said No Thanks? Maybe they already have who they want? Maybe they didn't think they had a chance with him?

I wouldn't bee too concerned.

It is a little odd that a BCS-level prospect from southwest Michigan has no MSU offer, no apparent prior relationship with Notre Dame and only late Michigan interest (or really any offer better than Mizzou and MAC schools). But I guess he is kind of raw, not a camp kid and plays for a small-time program.

Many do like to say around offers are the best judge of a recruit's caliber. But then when we're the only major offer a kid has it's because our coaches are best at spotting those diamonds in the rough. Ah, recruiting.
