Do you know if you want a semi-auto or revolver style pistol. Both have pros and cons. Also if you want to buy a pistol I do ask you take a safety course. (usually free or cheap at your local gun shops) Do not just strap on a pistol and think you are invisible. If you get a pistol learn it, practice with it, and become very proficient with it. One last thing is watch some videos online about the responsibilities of carrying. If you have any more questions feel free to ask and if you could specify exactly what you plan on doing with it/purpose of it and what your big concerns are we could give you more specific advise.

I really like stubby revolvers, but for a first gun I wanna keep my mind open. As far as a saftey course, no doubt. Here in Michigan for the CCW course its a full 8 hour, one day class, which mostly consists of classroom time. Then there is a specific amount of range time that is required to be logged prior to getting your carry permit. As far a carrying, I'm not sure it would necessarily be on body, but in vehicle for sure.

I have two 9mm's, a Ruger P95 (relatively cheap and reliable) and a Beretta 92 (Sweet gun). I wanted to be able to have a round chambered with a safety that had to be moved to fire.

Conceal carry is not a good option for these two but I bought them more as a home defense weapon.

I chose 9mm vs .40 because of cost and I felt there were 9mm rounds available with plenty of stopping power. Those rounds cost more but they aren't used at the range.

My favorite? A 12ga. Mossberg pump action with 1 oz slugs and buck shot. Nothing quite like the sound of a round being chambered in a shotgun to make people take pause.

^ Being I have Golson's measurables in height and weight, I doubt those guns are possible without some 'juice'

There are pros and cons to both. A revolver is a less likely to have a problem. You load up the cylinder and pull the trigger till it stops firing. If you only put one round in you can pull the trigger till it goes off. I revolver is round limited though. Your normal revolver will only hold 6 rounds. If you did go with a revolver i would suggest you go with a .357. That way you can put really good .357 rounds in it for defense but for plunging around and practice you can shoot the cheaper .38 rounds though it. I would also suggest if you go revolver get one that can be shot both double action and single action. A double action revolver will have a very long trigger pull and can be hard to keep on target if you shot double action.

A semi-auto pistol you need to fully seat the magazine then chamber a round and possibly sweep the safety. If you don't have a round chambered you can't just pull the trigger till it goes bang. I carry my 1911 cocked and locked to avoid as much trouble as possible. If you go with a semi you will have more rounds unless you go with a sub compact. With a semi a reload its both easier and faster as long as you have another loaded magazine. A semi with a safety will also tend to have a shorter trigger pull.

Let me know if you have any more questions and i hope it helps.

To segue off what Jade is saying about safeties, I know that when I first started to look at handguns, I noticed that quite a few do not have a safety that you switch from safe to fire. I wasn't used to this coming from rifles and shotguns. A lot of them, such as the Glocks, M&Ps and bascially any strykerfire have a 3 part, internal safety that turns itself off with a trigger pull. Mine, the Sig Sauer, is a double action/single action, and doesn't have one either but has a heavy, 10# lb DA pull. It can get very confusing out there.

For those with minimal experience with handguns, or even those with a lot, but just want something that will always go bang when the trigger is pulled, revolvers are a good route to go. Like Jade said, you just pick it up, pull the trigger, and it goes boom. In high stress situations, such as someone breaking into your home in the middle of the night, it may not be prudent to have to rely on remembering to swipe the safety for your and your families safety.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I'm a new member here, but here's one I've not seen mentioned yet
Welcome to ShilohRifle.com

Shiloh Sharps .45-110 black powder cartidge rifle with 32" heavy octagonal barrel. Mine is similar to the quigley, but no patch box or gold, maybe closer to the hartford model.
be prepared to wait 2-4 years for one, or at least it used to be that long.
The M1 Garand is another favorite.
Also like the AR-15/M4 - there is so much that can be done, and for someone with even a little mechanical apptitude or gunsmithing abilities, you can build up your own from parts, however you want.

since this got bumped, does anyone wanna buy a Winchester Model 94 30-30 (Post 64)? $300

PM if interested and I will get pics to ya and figure out the details.

I completely missed this post. I would absolutely love to snag this from you, but I don't have the means right now. The next non-hunting gun I get will be a lever action rifle. I absolutely love them. I wouldn't hate some pictures if you wanna PM them to me or I can PM you my email. Thanks.

Sorry bro I already sold it to some dude I work with. The $ went to the start up cost for the AR, which I should be picking up at the end of November!

Surprised my gf with the .38 snub with pink grips she's been wanting for about two years last night. She let me do things I usually only get to do on my birthday....

For those with CCW, what type of holster to you use? For my Ruger LC9 with LaserMax, I have one by Theis Holsters that's pretty nice and fits IWB.

Unfortunately, no CCW here in Illinois, the only state in the country without any sort of CCW. I love this blue state...

I am a massive fan of blackhawks serpa holsters. They aren't as easy to conceal but they are great holsters. During the winter I throw a coat on and during the summer a button down the front tee with another tee under that to cover it. The only other holsters I use for conceal carry Other than that is occasionally I use a CTAC inside the belt for my 1911 and a cheap elastic inside the leg for my LCP.

Freaking hilarious vid.

Haha, I thought so too.

My uncle sent me this one a few months ago. I feel bad for all you California gun owners.

I use a Comp-Tac Infidel holster with my Springfield XD Sub-Compact. Its not as bulky as some CC holsters.

Scar FN-16S 5.56x45, Dark Earth, 4 Clips ...(~2500)
Yugoslavian SKS 7.62x39, synthetic folding stock kit, 2 Clips...(~600)
Remington Model 700 .30-06 (many flavors of 700 ranging in price from 500-2000)
Remington Model 597 .22, synthetic stock, 4 Clips, 1 HC Clip (~350)
Remington Model 700 6mm, synthetic stock (not alot of 6mms, but also many flavors of 700 ranging in price from 500-2000)
Mossberg Accu-Mag Model 835 12g Shotgun (~300)
Remington Wingmaster Model 870LW 20g Shotgun (~500...small bores go for more, so lucky you)

EAA Witness Target 9mm 9x19 (~350)
Taurus Millenium PT140 Pro ( ~375)
Browning .22 Long Rifle Buckmark (Blue)(~300)

I think its a cool collection, not sure if you are asking for values or just envy...I'll give you both...Lucky Bastage. Number in parens is best guess values for prisitne items...I usually look at 65% of that for light wear, and 50% for normal wear.

Thank you gents.

To be more specific:

Would you add any of these to your collection?
SCAR looks nasty....not sure what it would be used for...
General Comments.

PHGREEK thanks for the values....seems inline with what they are asking.
