Why did you take Jimmy's 2nd year? In his 3rd year he had 4 INTs, at least two of which were not his fault.

Jimmy was a phenomenal talent, and probably would have won more games if we had a defense backing him up. My point was that good QBs can throw INTs. The difference between Clausen's Soph and Junior years was big, but he still threw those picks. You would think that Tommy has thrown 17 picks with the way people talk about his ball control. Tommy's number of picks isn't that outlandish at this point in the season, it's fairly normal, yet lots of people are pointing the finger at Tommy for this team having 3 losses when theres plenty of other things going wrong along with those picks. Tommy was never expected to start, yet no one else stood up to the challenge when the **** hit the fan the last 4 years.

I think a lot of the Tommy criticism is just disappointment talking. Most people knew before this season that Rees was not very good. The hope was that we would run a no-huddle, up-tempo offense that played to his strengths. Instead, he is asked to consistently throw long, which is not his strength. I've never been a big fan of Rees as a player, but I respect him greatly. I find more fault with our playcalling and severe lack of playmakers at Safety and ILB. Seriously, Fox and Calabrese might be the worst MLB tandem I've seen in a long time - no speed, poor tackling, poor coverage, etc. And Farley cannot see the field as much as he has. I'd be more optimistic about next year, but if Tuitt leaves along with Nix, our D-line will get pushed around like they did against Pitt and our LBs will be too inexperienced to pick up the slack. The offense will have to reach and probably transcend BKs offense at Cincy.

Tommy's 10 completions move him to 10th for an ND single season.

The 162 yds move him to 7th best for an ND single season and 4th best ND Career.

The TD pass ties him for 5th best for an ND single season.

Thank you Tommy for making my life so exciting for the last four years. It used to take excessive alcohol consumption, strippers and rock and roll glory for me to feel that way, but for the past four years I have been able to experience that same rush in the comfort of my own living room. Haha. Seriously, god bless Tommy!

Rudy with no talent and great motivation played one play was immortalized in a movie.

Tommy with a little talent, great motivation, and a football brain won 21 games as a starter, 7th most of ALL ND QBs, and was more reviled from ND fans than any player in ND history.

Agree Tommy = ND MAN

His sheer love for ND, sticking with us when it looked like he was going to be the 3rd QB this year (imagine if he transferred), and leading us to a great deal of wins, I have to agree with this also.

Deserves a second quote. Great post.

Our coaches got the absolute most out of Tommy that they possibly could, IMO.

7000+ yards, 60+ TDs, a respectable record, and contributing to four consecutive bowl berths is a pretty nice career.

His ovation was solid

Missed most of the game to attend my grandmother's 90th birthday, caught what I could though. Most of it was the end of the game. It's gotta be hard for those Seniors to perform for the last time in that stadium. Tommy looked like he was a little choked up during the alma matter at the end, the guy loves this team and the university. Definitely a Notre Dame man. I hope he has a good send off, as well as the other seniors, for the Stanford game and bowl. They deserve a decent finish, most winning class since '92-'95! Not to mention they ended the losing streak to USC and went 3-1 against them in that time.

I was talking to my wife about this earlier, but what do you guys think the odds of him staying in school, and staying with the staff as a Grad Assistant next year?

I mean, the kid has the football mind to be a coach. What better place to get started than with Coach Kelly?

I could see it. Definitely. And it is in his blood line.

I could see him as a grad assistant, most definitely. If he wants to follow in his father's footsteps, what better way to get some experience than be a grad assistant at ND?

Excellent article on Tommy.

No matter what, Tommy Rees gives his all - chicagotribune.com

On Christmas Day 2009, Tommy Rees was a reedy, lightly regarded quarterback prospect a couple of weeks away from enrolling early at Notre Dame. There was a starter already on campus. There was a new coach who barely recruited him. There was little belief he would amount to much.

And as his family exchanged gifts at their Lake Bluff home, there was his big brother, Danny, with what appeared to be a stick in his hand.

Earlier, Danny had ventured to Home Depot. He returned with his brother's gift, the top of which was obscured with wrapping paper from someone else's doing. (Danny was terrible at wrapping presents.) Tommy Rees grabbed the stick, tore off the paper, and discovered he was the owner of a new mop.

This is for your mop-up duty, Danny said. This is what people think of you. This is what people expect.

Prove them wrong.

I think the proposition of him staying at ND is an interesting one. His dad had a chance to get really involved with the program, and declined the offer. Anyone else with some knowledge want to weigh in?

#2 All-Time TD leader and he was only the starter one season.

5th Best Passing Yd Season in 125 years.

I mean yeah technically but he was starting qb for 12 and a half games in 2011

Well Tommy, you did some great things here in your career. You helped get us a title shot, and you salvaged a couple years from being very disappointing seasons. Tonight just didn't go your way but I'm proud of your effort. Now, go out with a bowl win and let's finish the year with 9 wins! Proud of the way you fought through adversity your entire career!
