No, every time he has played a legit D he has had mediocre to bad stats. Very inaccurate deep balls. Moreover, he only has one "good" receiver and that is Montgomery... and when you take him away, it tends to lead to mistakes/turnovers.

FYI - I took down my post cause I looked up his stats.

We have to stop the run to win. Sounds simple, but that's what it comes down to.

A ST play or two wouldn't hurt either. Our LBs were the most active they've been all year tonight. If they do that again we have a shot.

Stick Russell on Montgomery. Bring heat on Hogan. Only way they score a bunch of points is if they line up and do it on the ground. But no one's really done that to us in two years now. Would feel a lot better if we had Nix though.

P.S. Just saw Montgomery had 5 catches for 162 yards and four touchdowns tonight. Also a 31 yard TD run. That's absurd. I'm assuming he won't do that against us.

Montgomery's YAC will shred us if Jackson/Farley don't learn how to tackle by Saturday.

Really hope Gaffney doesn't run Farley's way. He's not very good - in fact, he's slow as hell. But he's powerful and if Farley tries his usual tackling method he will be annihilated.

K Russell can tackle. That's why I gave him the Montgomery assignment. Diaco reads IE, right?

I don't know why he wouldn't!

If we beat Stanford, that Pitt loss is really going to sting, lol.

According to Sagarin's 11/23/13 Predictor Model, ND will be about a 16.5 dog in Palo Alto.

Big number. I'd take ND on that all day.

And then we win and shock the world.

The number is big but probably in the right neighborhood. For Saturday's SU/Cal game in Palo Alto, Sagarin's 11/16/13 Predictor Model had SU a 34 pt favorite. Vegas had -31.5.

SU won by 50, 63-13

Good point. I know nothing about SU/Cal, don't care. I'm sure ND can play Stanford to a close game if not win. A redzone pick next week will lose the game.

I really think it comes down to how many picks Tommy throws.

Stanfords's strength, running the ball at us isn't our weekness. Our offense moves the ball but doesn't always score.

I think we have a chance.

I'm not a big gambler - with real money anyway, but if the line opens at 16.5 you can bet your sweet arse I'll be putting next month's mortgage on ND.

I think +14 is a very favorable line for ND. We love to play close games.

I don't want any injuries going into the bowl but we should play lose and easy this game. We don't need to save anything for a big BCS game we just need to relax, have fun, and try to spoil their season. Stanford may be pretty wound up because they still have BCS hopes so let's use that to our advantage.

Seems accurate to me. I expected to be a 10-14 underdog. Winnable game, but Stanford is clearly superior.

I really don't know that they are, tho. I mean, not 10-14 pts worth. They get over by playing big boy football. ND matches up well to that style. If the interior D line can play respectably, even 75% as well as they did yesterday, it would force Stanford to pass way more than I think they're comfortable doing. And right now, I have A LOT of faith in our O line to keep Tommy off his arse. I dunno, I agree Stanford is the overall better team, but I don't think it's as much as you're saying.

I agree. Don't expect to be blown out, but it'll be a tough game to win. Here's hoping.

All about line play and turnovers in my eyes. If we have 1 or 0 turnovers and can continue to be solid in the trenches, I like us to have a great chance of not only keeping it close, but having a good chance to win.

Turn it over more than once, or get push around in the trenches (specifically our D front against their O-line in the run game) and that spread will be hit.

Agree on turnovers 100%. I'm much more intrigued to see how the ND defensive line holds up against Stanford's O line. Le'ts hope Kona's ankle gets better and JJ eats a lot of potatoes this week.

That offense seems to change identity by week. One week they act like it's 1934 and run for 300 yards, the next they're in shotgun half the game and Hogan goes over 300 passing.

Fair assessment right here.

Need to figure something out on kickoff coverage. Stanford averages the most return yardage per attempt in the country (27.2), while we are close to the worst in the country covering kickoffs (25.2, #118).

I may be the only one to care about this but Gus Johnson gets the call for this game..I'm damn excited about that.

Unfortunately Charles Davis is a dunce.

If the game was called by Gus and Blackledge or Spielman, I'd be in announcing heaven.

I also recognize that I'm probably in the minority with the those two analysts.

Have they set a time for the game yet?
