17 wouldn't be counting McKenzie right? Guess he really isn't on board yet.

Just to be clear, ND's staff has told McKenzie that he isn't currently part of the class. It wasn't anybody making stuff up. As of right now we're in a holding phase with Mckenzie.

I still count Isaiah so that's 18. Then there are three that I am confident in being Irish but unsure the order in Tranquill, Luatua, and Hendrix. After that I think we are definetly in the hunt for some highly ranked kids but, you just never know what these kids are gonna do.

Talking with Loy directly, I'll say he + Steve were more right than wrong. They probably had the most accurate reporting throughout the saga in the sense that ultimately the ND coaches have not "officially" accepted his commitment because the test scores came in low.

However, I reconfirmed that the announcement didn't blindside the coaches, so the initial reporting was questionable on that front. That doesn't change.

It's all about how you want to count "verbals." The staff loves him, and he's 100% verbally committed to ND. However, the staff has told him he's not part of the class until he gets academics squared away. So he's as "committed" as you can get without... you know... being committed. Strange situation. But ultimately everyone is saying the same thing... if he gets his academics in order, he's part of the class -- if he doesn't, then he won't be.

After talking with Loy, I get where he's coming from and I'm inclined to agree that if his verbal hasn't been "accepted" then he shouldn't be listed with those who have. But it's half dozen of one, and six of another.

I think that's right. It's basically semantics.

In our informal calculations, to the extent that they are directed toward determining how many schollies we have left to give, we should probably count him for now though, right? I don't think the staff would give his spot away. I could be wrong though.

I don't think they would do that, and my opinion on that is only reinforced considering the school he goes to. We desperately want to build a pipeline to that school. Doing that kind of thing to Isaiah if he puts in all the work to be at ND would be a terrible move not only to him, but for our future prospects at that school.

Plus, the kid is a stud player, the likes of which we really don't have on the roster. I want him as a part of this class on NSD.

That's a great explanation for sure. I just feel that the kid wants him here, he wants to be here, and he announced his commitment in public of his intentions to come here. All of this equals I count him as a part of the class until he is not. I get what is being said but, at the same time I don't get it. You get what I'm saying?;) lol

He is exactly as "committed" as any other recruit. The difference here is on ND's side. It sounds like McKenzie's offer is conditioned on his grades. It is very good that ND is not leading him along.

A verbal committment is as good as the kid's word and even that is a stretch since no one actually treats a kid's committment as ending the process. Everyone treats a verbal as a declaration that the kid would chose that school if signing day were today, but that--you know--things change!

I still contend that it should be a violation to reach out to a committed kid. The rule should be that if a committed kid reaches out to your school, you can respond but have to simultaneously notify the school that he is committed to. It would be pretty easy to police. If a kid verbally commits to your school, he is asked to forward any e-mails, messages, or letters from other schools to the school he committed to. They can report the other school. If the kid doesn't, oh well...

I guess you could ask your commits to do that but I can not imagine how it would be enforceable in any way. The NCAA has enough trouble enforcing the rules it's already got. Last thing it needs to do is get in the middle of recruiting fights. And no one else can.

Until they sign an LOI the schools really have no particular leverage over players short of yanking their offer. And they certainly have no leverage over other schools, unless they all sign some sort of pact, which they won't.

Every school goes after other schools' soft commits. We've won our share.

So apparently Luatua's family wants to slow things down? JuJu's going to wait to see whom USC will hire? Tranquil is lost in thought?

I see we have some new offers out now, but some have questioned if they are actionable.

I just don't know what to think...

Who WILL be next to commit? and when?

I really like the class we have so far and I hope they all stick, but I wonder...we usually have one guy who changes his mind or can't make it after all (no names please to many bad memories). Is it too easy to guess McKenzie will be that guy for this class? I hope not. Some other teams seem to usually have one of these guys that they get the ball to in a number of different ways to to let him have the ball and make moves that get positive yards. Would reallly like to have that toy and use it correctly.

Most high school seasons are just about done if not already...hopefully things start shaking out soon.

(of course we do have a lot of guys already, but it doesn't seem like we are on the front burner for many of the NSD decision-type guys...)

I'm feeling Tranquill, Williams, Sykes in that order. Think we flip Williams this weekend if his visit doesn't suck, which is a big if.

Hayes and Trumbetti will be with him, definitely the right guys to have in town with him

Would it suck because of a potential loss to BYU?

Yeah, plus possible biting cold wind + freezing rain/snow. Compare that to, say, the USC atmosphere. I do really like that he and Barnett will get a lot of individual attention from the coaches.

Barnett, IMO, is maybe the single most important '15 recruit to the overall success of ND moving forward. I really think he and Brady White are that good.

if we can get manti to commit amongst the garbage he saw on the field and weather wise, i'm very un-worried about this weekend.

This is a great point because Williams is clearly the same person as Manti...

Well, to be fair to rtrn2glory, with Williams being local he is assuredly accustomed to the weather and it's unlikely to have a large impact. With him, I more meant that the weather could put a damper on the atmosphere in the stadium and possibly the product on the field. And it makes touring the campus and everything else more of a pain.
