He is more of a gadget back though. This is a drastic example, but the way Oregon used Deathony Thomsas is Freshman year when both James and Barner were there. He would be coming out of the backfield catching passes. Getting hand offs from the slot, running option. He also will catch bubble screens in the flat. Listed as a runningback, but will not be in the backfield much

EXACTLY!

Yes, but this leads right back to my original question: What happened with Davonte? He and Mac, imo, are pretty similar players. It'd seem the staff is trying to do the same things with these kids. Unless Neal just wanted to be full-time and not situational...that's the only thing I see him having a problem with...and if that's the case, it pretty much closes my question.

I just can't sit here and think that ND was trying to make Davonte their version of D. Thomas and him having a problem with it. So it leads me to wonder what will happen with Mac as well. I guess that's all I'm saying.

I would have to imagine that he wanted to be a featured player, having a mobile qb really opens up the offense which next year we will have...i know neal was playing w/ golson last year but he was still very much learning on the fly and we were VERY conservative in play calling

Well he was behind some pretty entrenched players. I do think the staff should have tried a little harder to get him on the field but its pretty hard to argue with, should we give the ball to Theo, Cierre, TJ, Eifert, or Davonte? Then he had a kid and jumped ship.

Neal was more of receiver, I cannot make a great comparison right now except maybe Mardy Gilyard and that is a stretch. They tried to make a position for him, but it just did not work out in the way we wanted. I think using Neal like Braylon Addison (I know way to much about Oregon) would be useful

i would imagine IF he signs...he is day 1 punt returner, Kick return man with a few scripted plays to get him on some jet sweeps, or reverse

I second these motions... Laserback is the term Oregon uses I believe. The "do-everything-as-long-as-it's-in-space" guy.

I still don't quite understand why we don't attempt that kind of plan with Amir more... he is somewhat of that mold.

Is laser back really the term they use? If so that is kind of really awesome. I have always wanted our offense to evolve to be more like Oregon's. Or at least have more of those elements.

Amir is exactly that mold. I have been upset we have not tried to get him on the outside more often. It would be awesome if he was an option back.

IDC who his favorite team was, but his answer to 'why aren't you committed there (VT)?' could have been anything pro-ND, rather than 'VT hasn't offered'.

But whatever, we'll see what happens.

found the article i was referencing
Inside Word: Tennessee, USC, Maryland, Auburn, Texas A&M Isaiah McKenzie, once he receives his necessary ACT scores back, will take his official visit to Notre Dame, it’s currently scheduled for Nov. 2. At that point he’ll be accepted as a commitment by the Fighting Irish staff. Behind the scenes, there’s only school that could sway this from coming to fruition: Virginia Tech. That’s the program that the four-star wide receiver grew up liking. Its his dream school. The Hokies haven’t shown any interest his way so far, but during the weekend they just began evaluating the Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage standout. Interest this week, combined by an offer and increased pursuit could potentially sway McKenzie to the Hokies.

F*** recruiting. I'm to the point where i genuinely don't care to follow recruiting as its going on anymore. Treat it like xmas gifts, Ill open them all up when the season starts. Ill be happy with the Wii i got, and never know about the XB1 or PS4 i almost had.

This is going to be another situation in which a kid can't qualify but every reporter will write about how he decommitted from ND to play for a lesser program making ND look bad in the process. I guess at least with this situation many people know he may not qualify. I doubt that stops anyone from ripping ND though.

Yup, another AQM except like you said - this one will be classified as a "decommitmemt". Frustrating.
