Either Max is slow at learning or Farley pays Kelly to play him. He isn't NOT good Come on Max Get it together.

He is a freshman playing a position where he is supposed to lineup the defense. Christ, think people. Farley already lost his job to Shumate, but Elijah is out. Farley will probably be replaced by Hardy next week if Shumate is not back. Jeeeeez think people

Max will be in there soon enough, he is out there every week on ST and will by next season be lined up next to Shumate in the starting role. His athleticism will be caught up with the mental side of the game that is also very important at the safety position.

Yeah I understand that everyone wants to see him out there now but, if he's not ready, he's not ready. Farley though limited, has gotten a lot of experience and has done a decent job. Honestly nobody looked good against the triple option today so I wouldn't put the sole blame on him. There are always bumps in the road in development. Look at Famous Jameis tonight, he's having some growing pains through the first half. It takes time at the college level to develop and we have to recognize that as fans.

If I'm not mistaken, don't Farley and Shumate play different positions? Free (Mattias) and Strong (Elijah)

Decent??

He misses tackles every game because he is trying to knock their shoes off. His is out of position a lot.

I do believe that the safeties are part of this defenses problem.

If he's out of position a lot, why would a true freshman be any better?

Faster, bigger, stronger. It certainly couldn't be any worse. Farley simply isn't very good.

You have no idea what you are talking about. You can be all of those but if you are out of position by 10 yards, those things don't mean ****. If you can't line the other players up so they are in the right position, those things don't mean ****. Sorry, it can definitely be worse, not saying it would be but it definitely could be.

I assume there's a reason Farley's playing and Redfield isn't, but Farley is clearly a weak link in our defense. Guy's endlessly missing tackles and/or being out of position. Collinsworth is not a lot better. Feels like a matter of time before Shumate and Redfield are the guys back there.

Shumate is hurt.

Otherwise he would be playing

To roughly quote/butcher Lou: faster is only a good thing if you're running in the right direction.

The coaches aren't stupid. If Farley wasn't better than Redfield he wouldn't be starting.

Yes I know. Part of the "matter of time" I was thinking of involves his hamstring. Though certainly in the first few games Shumate had some issues with being out position and missing tackles. Safety isn't easy. But he seemed to be getting better.

Interesting. How do we know until he gets a chance? All I know is Farley is a terrible tackler and is average in coverage. Again, not sure how it could really get worse. It's no different than the Folston situation. All of the sudden he's the best back we have going. Why? Because he was given a shot to showcase his abilities. I've seen all I need from Farley. He has simply missed way too many tackles/plays dating back to the NC game. I'll take my chances with the stud recruit who needs the reps. By all accounts, Redfield is hard-nosed and is always around the ball carrier on special teams. Id love to see him in a game like Navy when the primary focus is fly to the pitch man and light him up. Perfect time to mix him in more.

That's the argument against Cam at RB, yet he makes the best reads when executing plays. That's what makes him more effective than the bigger, stronger, faster GAIII.

Plus, most of these guys aren't separated by a whole lot in terms of speed. We're talking about tenths of seconds. Reading the play and taking proper angles are far more important than speed.

Yeah because learning safety and RB as a freshman at the college level are so similar.

Stop.

1st bolded: He does get a chance. Every practice. Trust me the coaches know more about what they need, know more about Max's abilities, and know more about Farley's abilities than we do. He's not ready.

2nd bolded: Folston isn't "suddenly" our best back. He's obviously turned the corner in terms of understanding the offense and earning the staffs trust. He's gone through a process. You guys always call for someone that you've never seen play, then when the coaching staff determines he's ready and he comes in and does well, you fault the staff for not putting him in earlier. I see it differently, the fact that Folston is coming in and doing well shows that the coaching staff is doing a good job at assessing when a player is ready for "big reps". There is nothing to suggest that if Folston had been getting the same number of reps in week 1 as he is now he would've been more successful than our veteran backs.

Folston was just an example. Surprised at how many of you are cool with Farley looking below average out there. SMH.

Rocket......most times I can agree with your posts, and I always enjoy reading them, but I gotta tell ya man.....pull your head out of your ***!!! We all know Farley has regressed in terns of his play, but the simple fact is: it doesn't matter how much more talented Max is compared to Mathias.....if he's not in the right position to make those plays all his talent isn't going to help!!!

I personally thought Mathias brought the hammer with him yesterday. I don't know if it was all me, but he looked if he was hitting (a lot) harder!

The problem is that he's always going for the big hit and consequently misses a lot of tackles he should easily have.
