See that's pathetic, i think it has a lot do with how you were raised. If i told my mom that when i was growing up she would have said suck it up. My mom just happens to be strong catholic woman who doesn't take a lot of BS lol

I was coaching 11 and 12 year olds this year. Had a kid who was a good athlete, but he would always leave the field hurt during contact drills, and whine and fall off during sprints...I talked to his mom.

No kidding she came on the field and ran next to him...chewing his a$$ the entire time, then stood there during contact drills and made him tough it out...

She came to every practice after that and gave him the stink eye everytime he started to fold up. I felt bad for him...but he turned into an ok D-lineman, and mama was the reason....

Sorry, kids MUST learn how to fail... and how to accpet it and keep moving... we are taking that away from our kids with this trophy for every kid stuff... and when they become adults they have no clue how to deal with not getting their way all the time... there are many reasons why my politics shifted during my mid 20s... this is one of those reasons.

Looks like people are moving on and putting this silliness behind them. Which is good ... A shellacking is not out of line unless there's a clear effort to run up the score, or no effort to take the foot off the gas. But that wasn't this case. The third stringers were in. What was the coach supposed to do, tell his kids to take dives? That's actually unfair to the opposing team. They want to compete, not be patronized like they are playing with their big brothers and their friends.

There is nothing wrong with Bullies. Seriously. A bully down the street from me taught me a lot about myself growing up. He punched me in the nose one day after school at the bus stop and I went home crying to my dad.

My dad told me that the next time I see him, to punch him in the face, don't say anything. Walk up and do it. 2 things will happen: He'll kick your ***, or he will back off. Either way, he'll leave you alone as he knows you're no longer an easy mark and not afraid anymore.


I'm pro-bully. Grow a sack and face the person. Life is a helluva lot harder than some kid picking on you at 13 yrs old.

your experience isn't the only one. bullies nowadays do really messed up stuff. ever read about the kids who got sodomized on the team bus? there's more than one type of bully. a "mean" kid down the street is one thing. driving another kid to the brink of suicide is another. happens more than you think.

it is bullying. you can't just say it isn't bullying because of the severity. felony rape can fall under the category of bullying. there's clearly a line between bullying we shouldn't worry about much (like name calling and taking lunch money) and bullying that requires the cops to get involved. it's bullying all the same. the kid who was sodomized was regularly singled out and bullied on the bus. it was allegedly a typical incident until the older teammates grabbed a bat to stick up his ***.

my point was that there's more than one type/level of bullying. irishpat's unapologetic and irresponsible support of bullying needs to be put in its place. the little stuff is a lesson that can build character, sure, but it's all fun and games until the bully hospitalizes/sexually assaults/etc the victim. i refuse to let someone openly state they're all for bullying without setting any type of boundaries on it. it's all about perspective. just because this started with an article about a moronic parent being incapable of understanding what constitutes bullying doesn't mean that we should start promoting bullies like irishpat. give me a break...

I'm saying if bullying rises to the point of violence or legitimate crime, the solution is not to "punish bullying" but to punish assault and battery, like you said.

i don't agree that severe bullying is separate though. it's all still bullying. a criminal offense tied in with other bully tactics is still bullying.

let's not lump in "America" considering that this was only one parent. i haven't seen a single comment anywhere supporting the complaint. i'm sure supporters exist, but it seems like a vast majority of people think the parent is a tool...and they're right. if anything, it's abuse of the bully reporting process in that district and the complainant should be reprimanded.

Hear me out:

Kid A picks on Kid B. Kid B just takes it. Never saying anything, never fighting back...etc. Kid A continues to do it to othe point where Kid B finally breaks down. Charges are filed, shrinks are involved, or a suicide happens (extreme cases).


Had Kid B just stood up for himself from the begining...we likely avoid all these insane cases of teens offing themselves becuase of a ****ing facebook post. I'm sorry, I understand there are those that have lost loved ones due to suicide and I totally sympathize (my brother has tried to kill himself twice)...but alot of this behaior today isn't because of the bullies, but because we are raising such pussies.
