IIRC, that was the knock on Luata playing defense earlier in the thread, that he didn't have a nasty enough disposition.

I don't want to speak for GB, but I think he's alluding to whats been going around various sites message boards. Lacks aggression and has kind of a lazy demeanor. Similar to some of the criticism of Ishaq, basically.

It was Josh Helmholdt from Rivals. It was the article he wrote before the 5 star challenge regarding WR's/TE's (which in turn, was put on every Rivals mainboard). It's also from May 29th. They later said,

There will be no better opportunity than the Five-Star Challenge to prove he can be elite. His athleticism, his skills and his ability are not the issue

Which cracks me up. So his great athleticism, measurables and all of the game film over his entire career playing high level CA competition gets thrown out the window because a few armchair analysts don't think he is doing the Oklahoma Drill with enough passion.

This stuff drives me crazy. Turn on the kids tape and tell me he is lazy and plays without passion.

you can say the same thing about any kid. "if he doesnt go 100%".

It is unfortunate that very laid back personalities get automatically judged as not giving 100% or not caring.

The reports could be true on Tyler as I do not know him but you do see these kinds of reports on kids all the time. Especially in basketball.

I have a hard time believing that Kelly and co would go after someone soft. It really isn't what they do. This administration has not been perfect, but the guys are way more crisp and hard nosed under Kelly than in the previous regimes.

That's fine..call him soft, call him disinterested..let him use it as motivation to prove the doubters wrong. As long as they call him an ND commit, what other's say bothers me none.

IIRC, he played "out of position" during those 5star camps. Didn't he? I feel like I read somewhere that he played WR and just wasn't enthused by it. Had he played TE or Defense, he may have been motivated a little more. Idk. I could be wrong. But I'm not willing to question this kid based on what some recruiting analysts say. I prefer to trust the staff and if Tyler wants to be at ND, that's good enough for me.

Motivation can be nurtured but size and speed that he has cannot. Get him committed and then let the coaches lite a fire under him

I keep hoping this is how it shakes out. We need the big body and upgraded athleticism behind our front 3, and he could be a beast coming downhill to clean up plays.
