This is typically a PREMIUM feature on IrishSportsDaily.com but they have blessed ND Nation with a inside look at a chalk talk.

Oklahoma Chalk Talk: Offense

Some of the stuff is Game 1 mistakes still. While others just leave you saying what in the world. Then theres the case that with it being simple mistakes, is ND that far from being a good team. Thoughts?

lol yeah I just went to Mike Franks page and they are all there. Maybe they just hope no one will find his vimeo profile?

Regardless, thanks for the heads up TP. I might post thoughts after I get a chance to read it.

On the first play of the break down...why isn't the strong side guard chipping the nose tackle and then setting up on the backside linebacker? Just a thought...

second play, look how open the middle of the field is. Empty back field, wtf.

My best {optimistic} takes off these play analyses were the excellent blocking of Lombard and Koyack, two guys we were having a little [apparently unfounded] doubts about. Niklas continues to get it right only some of the time.

Nick Martin seemed strong and solid. The outside receivers didn't block very well even when they had clear responsibility [this comment doesn't apply to TJ as he wasn't closely involved in these plays blockingwise].

Both of Rees' first two picks seem very "excusable" to me. Looking closely at the third, despite what the commentator said about not risking the throw, that throw was very close to being right there. I still refuse to knock Tommy too viciously for those picks.

Common Mike, you're not going to let some slow motion, step by step analysis of what actually happened in a 2013 game cloud your objectivity, are you?

We've got fans here with vivid memories of the '11 season. They don't let their acohol induced game state of mind, while sitting on a bar stool thumbing away on their smart phone to be the first to post after a play, "REES SUCKS!," interfere with their judgement of a play they really didn't see. Hey, they know that analysis was photoshopped. It's always Rees fault.

Hah!!

Sometimes some of us have to laugh to avoid crying.

You and I, who have watched this stuff longer than almost anybody, know that Coach has us playing really hard football right to the ending whistle. We know that if he'd have had just a LITTLE luck with just SLIGHTLY better OLine stability and Quarterback solidity, he'd have won 10 games each of his first years and may do so this year still. We know that three full years of trying to upgrade depth, so that having a situation like a "limping" Tuitt and a retiring Spond doesn't seriously impact an otherwise fine defense on paper, isn't enough given from where he started.

We know that every play is the product of 24 people at least --- both teams and the two opposing coaches that are calling the plays. We know that sometime the "other guy" is just going to have a good play. And we know that if any of these constant over-the-top gripe-machines on this board would have a "one strike and you're out" boss, they'd be fired daily.

But, we love Notre Dame, and so we, mistakenly, listen to the crap in the wind......

What I find most interesting here is there have been over 770 views of this thread but only a dozen comments.

The usual whiners are over in the Kelly, Rees, Atkinson, Longo, Tuitt threads bashing away with their glittering generalities instead of having dialog about what actually did happen on the field.

That blown option read by Hendrix just made me cringe. That was a HUGE gain waiting to happen.

It's hard to watch 25 minutes of little to no communication on the field by players and mental/physical mistakes by players that can't be blamed on the coaching decisions and/or Rees only. Coaches can't make the plays for you. They can help players be physically/mentally prepared to do so, but ultimately the onus comes down to each individual. These are mental mistakes, albeit correctable ones.

There's a ton of positive breakdowns in the video. It's not mistake after mistake.

edit: it's also better to actually understand why they're making mistakes instead of imploding mentally. the board is inundated with posts freaking out about who to blame between players and coaches. this explains, point blank, what the problems are.

The 1st pick wasn't his fault.

On the 2nd and 3rd picks, Rees threw the ball as it was designed, not as what actually happened on the field. The game is played on the field, not on a drawing board. He has to see when routes are rerouted by the defense and adapt, and adapt when a 2nd receiver has brought a defender into the play. He didn't and the result was two turnovers.

Thanks...pretty good breakdown. But Tommy is still a mediocre QB. And curious why the team missing their assignments?
