I'm sure theres going to be a lot of speculation with this. Just hope we're doing all the right things here. Would like to land Tyler.

Lol typical of them, OSU fans are deluded as usual. I hope CFB media pick up on this.

I accept that fans, as "fanatics," are mostly a little deluded, or willing to be seduced, at least, by the charms of their favorite school, but Buckeye fans are really, almost to a man (in my experience as a native Ohioan), completely and furiously blind regarding, and obsessively defensive in reaction to, criticism or shortcomings involving Ohio State football. If the Tressel scandal didn't teach us that, we do not want to understand the darkness of the Buckeye "mind."

Scout.com: Luatua eliminates OSU

The last poster, as of now, an Ohio State fan, says it's because Gesicki out of NJ is "on board." Except I don't see that on Rivals, and Gesicki is a lot lower ranked than Luatua

Eleven Warriors is saying the same thing. Luatua and Gesicki were supposed to both visit the same weekend, and the OSU staff believed Gesicki is closer to committing than Tyler, so they asked Tyler to push back his visit. Obviously that didn't go over well with Tyler.

Two of the nation’s Top 3 tight ends could be off the board before Thanksgiving.

Look for Tyler Luatua of La Mirada (Calif.) High to opt for Notre Dame over Alabama, where his brother Issac Luatua plays. He has upcoming official visits to both schools.

I don't know if this is old or not:

It's new. Great news. He says our coaches always tell him how great our history is of getting TEs into the NFL.

Also says he could start at ND as a freshman. Reeeeaaaally ...

We're slightly ahead of Bama. He's going to try and take all five officials. ND, Bama and potentially BYU, Ole Miss, Utah, or Wisconsin. With ND the coaches are really good to him and he likes the TE success that we've had and believes he'll have an opportunity to play right away. With Bama its their overall success as program and that his brother goes their.

It'll be damn impressive if he beats Niklas and Koyack for the starting job. Heuerman could challenge as well.

Short term he doesn't move past Niklas and I think Smythe is gonna more of a long term challenge to Luatua than Heuerman.

Wouldn't surprise me if some of the younger guys steal reps from Koyack next year. Another poor start to this year so far. His bad is so bad that his upside is negated.

I think if we win games (big if) and he has a good official he'll commit on/shortly following the visit. ISD has been all over this for awhile and months ago said the only reason he wasn't already committed to ND already was that he hadn't visited yet.

We lose to Arizona State badly and then get beat by a potentially reinvigorated USC? Could blow our chances. The USC game is BY FAR the biggest game of the season now. Could lose to Arizona State and Stanford by a landslide and as long as we beat USC we'll probably pull in a solid recruiting class.

had been impressive in camp..obviously doesn't get the amount of reps as others but he will be good...his route running was said to already be college football ready plus has good hands....unfortunately for koyack, he played terrible hs football teams and because of his size he was a complete mismatch...now, not so much

This. No disrespect to Heuerman, I'm just really high on Smythe. It will be interesting to see how the depth chart shakes out in 2015 between Smythe, Heuerman, Weishar and, if he commits, Luatua.

Potentially having Smythe-Heuerman-Luatua on our depth chart at TE makes me randy

Very high on Smythe as well, I think he is the heir apparent to the TE throne once Niklas is gone. He'll have had two full seasons of weight training and to me thats the only thing he needs. In 3 years I think we look back and realize how much of a steal away from Stanford that was, haha. Like the rest of the guys but love Smythe.

Would be nice to see a couple more targets to the TE position. The MSU game strategy of throwing deep seemed to relegate the TEs to blocking.

Such a strange change of scenarios. Last year Golson targeted Eifert a high number of times, and when Rees came into games last year it seemed like he would only target Eifert. Now with Tommy at QB full-time Niklas only has 11 catches out of 88 total receiving completions.

Eifert was much more of down field threat than Niklas is. Better route runner and ball skills at this point. Also Niklas has actually had a few significant plays that he's not completed. Rees threw him a beautiful pass along the sideline against Oklahoma that he stumbled before the ball got there and dropped it. He had two notable drops against Purdue. And there has been a few more i believe.

Yeah, this has been really frustrating me. Niklas is a serviceable pass-catching TE but I suspect that Koyack will be better able to make the tough catches. If we're gonna pass to the TE, I'd like to see Koyack get more targets. I guess he's got to shore up his blocking if he wants to get more reps though.

He reportedly had a very strong game against OU.

I did see some stuff on that. However, I view that as he didn't miss any assignments that got his teammates destroyed and for him thats playing well. He has truly had some of the more head scratching/remote throwing plays of the year.
