BYU vs. Texas... BYU got hosed against UVA playing on a swamp of a field.

WSU vs. USC could be interesting. I think SJSU is primed for an upset of Stanford. Miami vs. Florida I also think could be an upset for the Hurricanes.

I just realized how much of a monopoly ESPN has on college football. The 3 biggest games of the week are:
Florida vs Miami
eUSC vs Georgia
ND vs scUM

All on ESPN. Most of the other games are lopsided or between nobodies.

I realize it's only D1AA Sacramento State (a team that had won their last three games vs. Pac 12 opponents), but Arizona State looked really good tonight. 55-0 with a few minutes left. 42-0 at halftime. Kelly with 299 yards passing and 5 TDs. They are going to be a lot more formidable than many Irish fans think.

I agree that ASU is going to be good but we catch them after they play Wisconsin, Stanford and USC back to back to back. I know that ours isn't really any better, but I have hope that they may lose 2-3 of their games and be demoralized. Of course the same could happen to us.

Valid point re: the schedule, but I'm predicting they beat Wisconsin at home, give Stanford all they can handle in Palo Alto (in a losing effort) and pummel USC a week before traveling to Dallas for us. Even if they lose all three, it's hard to believe they won't get up for a game against ND in Jerry World. I'll be interested to see how the next few weeks play out for both teams.

In years past, if I had collegiate athletic eligibility, I could play for Sac State. They have improved over the last few years, but they are still one of the worst teams in the FCS.

If this season has proven anything, it's that the best FCS teams are better than the worst FBS teams.

Sac State is not one of those FCS programs. I would not read into it at all.

a team that had won their last three games vs. Pac 12 opponents

Unless I'm missing something, these are the last 3 Pac-12 opponents. It speaks for itself.

2012: @ Colorado W30-28 - Colorado finished 1-11.
2011: @ Oregon St W29-28 OT - Oregon St. finished 3-9.

2010: @ Stanford L 52-17 - Stanford finished 11-1.

Stanford started pounding the ground [clock] with 4:29 in the 3rd. They easily could have done that at the half. Alex Loukas went 1 for 2 for the remainder of the "passing" game. Stanford could have won by 70+ if they wanted to.

Present scoring versus opponent thus far (@ San Jose St., @ Arizona St.): 79-0.

I bring this up because NDWorld247, a very saavy poster with a seemingly high football I.Q. gave them credit they didn't deserve. Do not read into this. Yes, the Devils are good. But do not try to read the tea leaves that are the Sac State Hornets. That's like prognosticating from watching the Blue and Gold game.

Let's see how they fare against #21 Wisconsin, especially Will Sutton versus the grown man sized Whisky O-line.

My name is Andy in Sactown, and I approve of this message.

On the upside, they finally fixed the parking fiasco after 20 years.

Wisconsin, Stanford, USC, ND - That has to be one of the toughest stretches in the country. Especially when you consider the trench warfare you will get from three of the four. I now feel better about that game!

Interested to see how BYU's run defense does on Texas.

I clearly misread whatever article I saw that stat in. Maybe it said they were going for their 3rd straight win vs. Pac 12 opponents? Regardless, I apologize for bringing misinformation to the board.

Sac State is clearly not a good team and this game really does nothing to form my high opinion of Arizona State. I've said since May they would be our 2nd toughest opponent this year and I still believe that. They did what they were supposed to do (42-0 at the half) to a far inferior opponent.

Speaking of games against a FCS opponent... I read this article last night (Week 2 College Football Viewing Guide - Grantland) and it really highlights a lackluster slate of games this week:

A wiser grouch would have reserved those grumblings for Week 2. In it, by our hasty calculations, FBS football teams will participate in 75 games over a three-day stretch, and 35 of those teams will play non-FBS opponents. (Would it be immoral to root for another wave of have-not upsets? It would not. We'll come back to this.) The Week 2 slate contains two (2) games between opponents ranked in the AP Top 25, and seven (7) games between Top 25 teams and opponents hailing from BCS conferences. Another ranked team will travel to face a squad playing in its second year of FBS competition. (We will also come back to this.) Alabama's not playing at all, which means we've gotten our last look at the Tide before that all-important Week 3 trip to College Station. This is going to be a weird one.

Thank god ND vs UM is this week, otherwise SCar vs. UGA would be the only game between ranked opponents.

On an otherwise horrible day for football, the Irish and Wolverines should have the entire national audience tuning in Saturday night. There's one positive... oh... and Spurrier's comments on the Georgia game is always entertaining.

Even if ASU happens to win the first three and is in great shape mentally, that is a brutal stretch against some of the most physical teams in the nation and they will be pretty beat up physically by time they get to us.

Big IF indeed. I've watched enough ASU to know they will lay an egg at some point before their season gathers any steam at all.

Yeah, great pass by Morris. I'm definitely pulling for Miami in this one.

ASU is probably the third hardest matchup on our schedule outside of Michigan and Oklahoma. Their ability to generate pass rush up the middle is something that Tommy is not adept at dealing with and could lead to some big negative plays. Their quarterback Kelly is probably the best player under center we will face all year... very effective running and passing. Maybe Gardner/Hogan will be better but neither has the skill position weapons that Kelly has.

ya, Stanford is easily the toughest game on our schedule this year.

Both Miami and Florida (especially Florida) are doing everything they can to not win this game.

Stanford is the most overrated team maybe in the history of college football. Please stay up and watch the SJSU game tonight where they will be exposed.

Temple lost 22-13 at home to Houston. Gave up 500+ yards. Really similar stat lines as last week. Greenbury had a big game (14 rec, 165yds).

100% serious. If you think they're legitimately the 4th best team in the country then you didn't watch enough of their games last year and don't have appreciation for the fact that they won more squeakers than any other team in the country by a large margin.

The most overrated team in college football history? I don't know about that. They may be overrated but it's hard to say. We won a lot of squeakers last year too.

Stanford played literally twice as many one-score games as we did. You're right though... the most overrated team was clearly USC last year. So I'm way off base there. But there are least 10 teams I'd put ahead of Stanford.

LAX is the most notorious Stanford hater on the board. I think that they're overrated right now as a top 5 team, but to think that they're a mediocre team is ignorant. Their success lately puts away any doubts anyone could have about them. They won squeakers because they're a good team, they're not built to blow anybody out. Any team that beats Oregon on the road is clearly a very good to great team. How they are this year is still up in the air, but they've earned their national respect

I'm not sure that they are truly a top 5 team, but they are definitely our toughest game this season. Certainly not our fourth toughest game, that's crazy talk.

U$C last year was more overrated than Stanford is this year. I truly think Stanford is a top 10 team. Just because they won a lot of close games last year doesnt mean they arent better. They have the good QB for the entire season this year and their defense is just as good as last year, if not better.
