His school is not small but I think it is safe to say not so competitive. They have their years but couldn't tell you the last time they won their conference in football. Now in baseball, they have always been very good.

Carroll is not a sports factory, football schools in fort wayne are Luers (Jaylon), Snider, Dwenger for the most part, two being private.

Carroll has about 2,000 kids in the high school.

Football historically has not done well, especially considering how big the school is. However, the football program has improved dramatically over the last 3 years as they hired a new coach who was previously at Snider. Last year they finally won a sectional, beating a quality Penn team. Of course that just happens to coincide with Drue's involvement with the team.

Carroll won the state title in baseball in both 2010 and 2011.

There is a reason why Drue had previously focused on baseball, it's because he is very very good. This site ranks him in the top 10 players in the class of 2014 for the entire state.

Hey, hey, hey... On my high school team I wasn't the strongest, or fastest guy, but I led my team in tackles

Hehehe

Just imagine what you could have done if you were the strongest and the fastest. I know...I'm missing the point. Heart and motor counts!

I think Jaylon Smith could be the biggest factor (shocker) in Drue's decision. Don't overlook the fact that both Jaylon and Drue are products of AWP in Fort Wayne. They've spent a lot of time together over the past few years and really have developed quite a rapport with one another. I think the connection with Jaylon gives us the trump card, on top of everything else.

Drue kind of reminds me of John Turner. I was never crazy about Turner as a safety prospect, but I always kind of liked him as a LB prospect, with the understanding that he was kind of a project -- and now Kelly claims that Turner is turning into a serviceable safety, so maybe that shows how much I know ... Anyway, I definitely like Drue as a LB prospect/defensive athlete, no question.

I get Wooly's point though. We already have Yeargin and Martini, high three-star types, low four-stars at best, and Bonner, a low- to mid-range three star. With those guys as depth, I'm ready to start swinging for the fences at ILB. Do we have room for another three-star ham-and-egger?

Granted, the staff has shown excellent judgment with their offers to three-star level guys. Chris Brown and C.J. Prosise were great pickups, off the top of my head. Three star guys with upper-echelon athleticism.

Still, taking Tranquill might make me a little uneasy about star power in the linebacking corps, depending on the number of remaining spots. I want to get some top talent to mix with these high-character three-stars. You want some Michael Deebs, but you also want some Jaylon Smiths. This class needs a guy or two of Jaylon's caliber at LB. I assume we still have room to go after some upper-echelon ILBs, so I like the Tranquill offer, but if we don't have that room, then I'm a little uneasy.

This. This is exactly my thought. Reps coming! Great as always Emcee

I agree we want more star power, but what high-profile ILBs are still seriously considering us? Nyles Morgan is the only one I can think of, and he may be a huge long shot depending on who you listen to.

I actually like the idea of taking Tranquill because I think we need more athleticism at LB. Calabrese is an example of a guy who can hammer people, but I have a minor heart attack every passing play when he's on the field.

I'm all for taking this kid if he wants to flip. I'm tired of seeing us only end up with 17-19 kids on Signing Day. I'd much rather take a raw talent with potential than end up with another unused scholarship.

+1. I take deep breaths every time Carlo takes a step back

in fairness the coaches didnt often put him in a good position. For instance in the Purdue game he was regularly covering their best WR in the slot and it was always going to be ugly

How new to football is he?

Idk how a kid with that body type doesn't play football until recently in Indiana. In California and Florida, sure that happens a lot because there's so much talent there that some goes unnoticed. Curious to know when Drue actually started.

Drue didnt have any coaching til January this year. Theres a reason ND didn't offer last September, much less any offer at this point last season. He didnt magically just get offers from schools in a year. I will be more than happy to pass you AWP's # or you can look it up and give them a call.

So you are saying his high school coaches are not very good?

You said: "Drue has only picked up football recently".

This suggests he's new to football, not that 'he's just had bad coaches'. If your point was that he's had bad coaching, I'm sure you see how that's a misrepresentation of the truth.

Chill out, I was just asking clarification.

Actually, he picked up football recently would suggest that he "learned" the game. There is a big difference. I guessing you didn't play football. Some guys are out there to get girls, and hang with friends. There is a huge difference in being on the team, and actually knowing the game. If you have followed his recruitment, then you would know that he has revolved around baseball up until January. (In the recruiting world, i personally would consider that recently)

I never said he had bad coaching either. (Im sure you can see how that is a misrepresentation of what I said) Its a matter of dedication. When you get to this level (ND) one has to be dedicated and realize what it takes to earn PT. As you will shortly find out theres some on this team that havent taken advantage of that and have to make adjustments. Drue decided to pick Football later than most in his position, and now is reaping the rewards of his work. He is similiar to Justin Brents situation...Brent was all basketball and played football...but then made decision to concentrate on football. In Brents recruitment, most would say he recently picked up the game at this time last year. This is why Drue's offer came as late as it did for an in state player bc there was really no answer on if he was going to take football seriously. You need spring and summer to be able to make a fair assessment for the program (ND) and on Drue.

ND could have offered him based off speculation in the spring and taken his commitment and it turned out he was still focused on baseball. ND waited and Drue went the football route and made the strides/impressions needed this summer to earn that offer.

Just bc someone disagrees with you doesnt mean that they are pissed at you lol. I dont care if you agree with me or not, thats the point of the board isnt it? To be able to have debates/discussion. Relax my man, you are still the best at getting info on here first.

I just don't know what this means. I don't have access to any info. I've never had a premium subscription in my life. I don't 'get info' at all. Maybe you have the wrong person?

And I don't follow his recruitment. That's why I asked for clarification and wanted to know how long he's been playing football. Drue has played football all through high school? Noted. Thanks for the clarification. That's the extent of my interest on the matter.

Im seeing a ton of traffic on this guy's profile and still wondering why...

Im not sold on this guy and not sure he would ever be anything but a ST player. Historically, IN football has been some of the worst played and coached football in the country. Sure, there are some here and there that make it but it really is few and far between. And this is coming from a guy who grew up in IN, played football there and loves ND.

My reaction is to punt. There are plenty fish in the pond with greater upside than this one. ND is a hot name and there are players, big time players, that want to come there. It just doesnt make a lot of sense to burn a scholarship on a guy that IMO wont make an impact. He would have to gain 30-40 lbs of muscle to remotely compete at the ILB position and there is no way he breaks the safety top 3.

Just dont see it happening on this one.

Article is a couple of years old, but he ranks Indiana High School Football #8 and the previous year they were #15. Indiana football definitely can have some shortcomings, but claiming they have some of the worst football in the country is exaggerated at best.

I was never stating that they were number 8 in my eyes. You simply stated that they were one of the worst in the country, and that simply isn't true. I would think most people would place them in that 15 to 20 range, but definitely on an upward trend.
