Another good one by New Holland is The Poet. It is an Oatmeal stout and won a few awards in the beer competitions this year. It is my favorite stout by far.

A bottle of water with some Powerade Zero stuff squirted into it. I gave up beer years ago, and I just recently quit soda.

We made up a batch of barrel-cured Manhattans at work. One of our distributers gave us a 5 liter oak barrel that we filled with bourbon, sweet vermouth, and orange bitters. We let it sit for 5 weeks to soak up some oak flavor. It's pretty good stuff, a touch too sweet for my taste (too much vermouth) but a good first effort. It's a cool thing for customers to order a drink and have it pulled out of a wooden barrel.

The only time I enjoyed a Manhattan was when the NY Rangers won the cup in 94 . Will enjoy another when they win it again . Today the wife is with the in-laws in New Hampshire . We are having Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA ( only 23 days old ) and a few Narragansett larger later on .

Should have went to Fenway today .

Yards IPA. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out!

Not bad, but there's better stuff in PA. Had Victory Hop Devil this weekend and really enjoyed it.

Also had the Founders Double Trouble for the first time (Michigan). That's one of the best double IPAs I've ever had. Very nice hop bite without much "balance" that makes it feel heavy and syrupy. Just a winner.

Have you had Victory's Hop Wallop DIPA? It is very good as well. Also their Storm King Stout is very good as well.

I am drinking some Smoking Loon Merlot 2010. I used about half the bottle while cooking so I thought I wouldn't waste the rest. Actually not a bad every day red for $6. Some blackberry, blueberry, cassis, some vanilla and a little oak. Almost like a blackberry pie.

Now that sounds good. What bourbon did you use?

I'll definitely try the Hop Devil and report back to you. Thanks.

Southern Tier Imperial Compass. Pretty good APA, nothing that really stands out with this one but an overall solid beer.

I had that ruin ten by Stone this past weekend... Not as over the top as I thought... But very good.

I am finding Sumpin Sumpin is my beer of 2013... Excellent.

Old Forester. It's not bad on its own, considering how inexpensive it is. The final product came out very smooth, people remark on how light-tasting it is. I'm chalking that up to the oak. It goes down almost too smooth; it could definitely get you in trouble.

True. Great value.

One of my buddies is a big fan of Rye Whiskey, and I need to pick up a bottle for his birthday. Any recommendations? I'm leaning toward Thomas H. Handy or Van Winkle Family Reserve, but those may be difficult to find. Maybe Whistlepig, Michter's, or High West?

Johnnie Black Label. The fiance got it for me as a passing my boards present. Pretty solid.

Black Maple Hill Single Batch. Super smooth with some nice depth.

Bear Republic Pete Brown Tribute Ale.

Not for me. Has a flat soda taste to it. Not a lot else to it except some hints of caramel and chocolate. Maybe on a different night I would like it but not tonight. Anyone else had it?

Chatoe Rogue First Growth Single Male Ale. This is more up my alley. Blonde ale that has a light hop taste. This seems like a great summer beer. Like this one a lot.

If you aren't drunk on Monday, you don't have a problem. I, on the other hand....

I prefer to drink things that require fewer than six words in their name and don't involve leafing through the OED.
