A lot of you read too much into every little thing these kids say. All he said was that ND and OSU are similar because of the coaches and tradition.

Then that's bad phrasing by STL if that is truly "all" that he said was similar.

Here's the exact quote:

"Notre Dame is very similar to Ohio State," he said. "They have a lot of tradition and I have a good relationship with Coach Alston and Coach Diaco. Ohio State is in a college town and there is a lot to do. Notre Dame is more quite. They are very similar schools and it's going to be hard to differentiate them until I take my officials and figure out which one is more comfortable."

He said they are very similar twice. I don't think he said they are similar just because of coaches and tradition. He thinks they both have "very good academics" as well. The only distinction made is Columbus vs South Bend. He even said he hasn't differentiated between them.

The good news is he's taking his OVs first

Just when a recruit says "yeah _____ is a lot similar to _____" it usually isn't a good sign, especially with Notre Dame and how we kinda recruit with being "different" especially from large state schools like OSU

Agreed. If there is no distinction being made for education, etc. it doesn't bode well. DC was downplaying it. A long way to go though.

Agreed. Lorenzo Carter did the same MW swing as Holley and he definitely differentiated between ND and OSU

I edited my other post but ill say it again, the good news is he said he will OV before choosing.

Follow recruiting long enough and there start to be a lot of tell tale signs. As philly said, whenever a recruit says ND is "different" or "unique" it is a positive. Whenever a recruit says something like "both ND and Ohio State/Miami/South Carolina/insert whatever school you want offer great educations" it does not bode well.

There are a lot of other minor red flags but I won't belabor the point right now as it would be really pointless to do so.

Oh, please continue, Lax.

Edit- Oh never mind. You're talking about recruiting in general...not just Holley. I thought you were talking about other red flags for Holley specifically, but I don't think you were.

Yup. Been saying this for awhile now...I can predict who won't go to ND about a million times better now than I could in 2007. The signs are there and they are repetitive. It's not 1000% true, but it's not that far off.

That said, I haven't read enough about Holley to go there yet. But it seems to be trending that way...

The biggest tell for me is when a recruit has a GPA above 3 is listed by a forty time and has a offer.

Does the coaching staff steer certain recruits towards or away the big game of the year for their OV? I feel like it would be better if his OV wasn't for the USC game, maybe MSU or BYU (Senior Day?)

Nonsense. This kid is new to recruiting and getting to know the schools. It has been overwhelming to him to say the least. It reminds me of Ishaq Williams who was leaning to PSU but his father realized he didn't really understand the real picture of what ND had to offer. Hence the 4:30 meeting with Diaco. Holley's HS coach and uncle are pretty much in our corner and in time I think Holley will get a better understanding of what ND is all about. People just need to chill out. It's good news that he'snot deciding until much later.

So is his good relationship with elston or Alford?quote confusesme

Coach Alston duh.

I saw Al and typed Alford. I suppose Elston might be more likely and the interviewer chose not to do some digging before publishing or had a typo

I assume that's a direct quote STL. That bolded part tells you a lot about how much attention was being paid to the details.

if i gathered anything from his quotes it's that nd osu are the teams to beat with penn state standing a chance.

once he differentiates nd from osu he should know where he wants to go.
if that is us or not remains too be seen

Holley interpretation: I've never noticed, in how much Phoenix and Venice have so much in common.

Once he visits ND, he'll see the difference between ND and OSU.
