Not the biggest, fastest, or strongest running back, Bryant is expected to be a super-charged Theo Riddick.

That is exactly how I see it.

If I were comparing the future backs to past backs, I would say:

- Bryant is a rich man's Theo Riddick (excellent hands, quick, fast, strong, and an iron will);
- Hood is a rich man's, senior-year Robert Hughes (more speed plus lack of confusion about his skill set- Hughes thought he was Jonas Gray his So. and Jr. years);
- Folston seems very similar to Armando Allen (compact, fast, quick, but does not avoid contact).

I am always confused about Bryant's body-type. Like Niklas or Braden Smith, if a kid is so completely ripped as a senior without any bad weight, does that mean he is more or less likely to get bigger? It wouldn't be shocking sot see folston outweigh him in the end.

21. Greg Bryant (RB, Fr.) Of all the talented newcomers on our list, Bryant is the highest rated true freshman. That’s likely a product not just of his touted recruiting ranking or his college-ready physique, but also the realities of the running back depth chart.

Bryant is the Irish’s most highly sought after offensive recruit since Jimmy Clausen, giving you an idea of the expectations heaped on the freshman back. And at a position that’s as close to plug and play as can be, if the recruiting services are correct with their evaluations, Bryant could very quickly make himself a key part of the Irish’s ground game.

Not the biggest, fastest, or strongest running back, Bryant is expected to be a super-charged Theo Riddick. That’d make Irish fans plenty happy, with Bryant’s versatility making him the most utilized weapon in last season’s offensive attack. Still, freshmen haven’t walked onto campus and made a huge impact under Kelly, so keeping expectations in check might be important.

Tuitt, Sheldon Day, and even freaking Tommy Rees.

I think its fair to say that freshman have came in and made an impact in every year of Kelly's tenure.

And those were at harder positions to make an impact. RB is universally considered the easiest and the SEC puts stud freshman on display every year.

He is sooooooo much bigger than Theo was his freshman year it's not even funny. To this day, even after Theo yoked up his senior year, Bryant is still bigger. Kid is on a different level when it comes to his level of yokeness lol.

Bryant is all muscle, but he still is just barely 200 lbs. Theo was not that far behind. I think the "super-charged" Theo Riddick comparisons are spot-on. The biggest difference seems to be that Bryant is not quite as interested in breaking ankles. He seems more interested in breaking ribs.

Jonas, though apparently unfocused for a few years, was much bigger and also faster in a straight line. What could have been...

That's what I'm saying. As h.s. runners, I don't see the comparisons at all. Theo was far skinnier and was more shake and bake. If we're comparing h.s. runners, I don't see the Theo comparison in the same vein you don't see the Gray comparison.

I hear you, and I totally agree that a big difference between their styles is that TR had some top-tier shake that you don't see yet with Bryant.

However, I don't know if you really see those moves in the h.s. film. I remember that I--like the players and coaching staff--was pretty suprised that Riddick could juke like he does. I think he ran a lot like Bryant in his film. While Bryant seems to break more tackles with his power, he is not looking for contact like Hood. Folston is all about speed (though he has pretty good size) and Jonas was trying to find a lane and get his legs pumping (off to the races).

The similarlity between TR and GB ultimately comes down to this. They are both:

- medium-size, but very solid
- not afraid of contact and hard to take down, but not power backs
- quicker than fast
- huge threats as a WR

Bryant is clearly stronger and probably a little faster, but Riddick was neither weak nor slow. As far as game planning, they both seem to be the same kind of weapon to me.

I am also with you that I think I doubt Bryant has Riddick's suddennes and will be more of a decisive cutter and stiff-armer.

I'm honestly hoping he wins the Starting Job. Having a elite RB for 3-4 years would be freaken awesome.

Saw him on campus the other day. I know someone mentioned he's listed at ~200, but to me he looked to be every bit of 215 without an ounce of fat on him. He's certainly bigger and more cut right now than Cierre ever was during his time here. If he is actually only in the 200 pound range he carries that weight about as well as anybody i've ever seen.

Makes sense. Cierre never really stood out to me. He had decent speed, decent cut, decent power and great vision. This kid seems to have good speed, great power, decent cut and good vision. He's also a bigger threat in the passing game that Cierre was.

i would rather see BK/CM create a small set of plays for GB at first and then look to expand his role.

MUST BLOCK BLITZ. {might be the only real question still unknown here}.

I know it's more than just a physical matter (does he know where to look for blitzers? Does he know when to stay/release?), but Greg held his own in the Army game in pass pro. I know you're talking about guys his age, not the highly experienced senior linebackers he would be looking to block this season, but he still impressed me. I think if he held his own against the likes of Jaylon Smith, he can pick up the physical tools to be useful in pass pro.

Knowledge of the playbook would be the only reason he doesn't extensively see the field this season (and I have plenty of faith in GAIII, Amir and BatteringCam).
