to save a Maltese attacked and in the mouth of a Pit Bull.

Both dogs were in the store on leashes and with their owners. The two dogs got into an altercation (no mention of who was the confronter) and were separated to different sides of the store. The 16 year old owner of the Pit Bull couldn't control his dog. It got loose and ran to the other side of the store and attacked the Maltese who apparently stood his or her ground. The Pit Bull had the Maltese in its jaws and was shaking the Maltese. Nobody in the store could separate the two dogs. An off duty cop was asked to stop it. She did. According to the police chief, she cleared the people out of the way, then dispatched the attacker with two shots.

The video does NOT show the dogs, the shooting, or the shooting. It does show the police chief describing the incident, the training officers get in dealing with dogs, and that a full investigation is being conducted.

Alright cop haters, lets hear about the poor decision making and how she should have tased the dog instead of shooting it.

I hate to say it because my sister has a Pitbull thats the nicest dog you've ever seen, but maybe some dogs should not be allowed in a public store where other dogs are going to be. That or they need some sort of system to keep dogs separated.

Oh my God! That cop is such a terrible human being. Such bad judgment! How dare that cop not try non-lethal alternatives first.

Doubt anyone will argue that here considering its a completely different situation....

natural selection. Should have just let the two dogs work it out for themselves.

My dog was once attacked by a Rottweiler at the vets. I put his leash in a hook so I could write a check and this Rottweiler just came around the corner and grabbed my Italian Greyhound/Beagle mix by the neck. Stupid kid didn't have him on a leash and just stood there while I punched his dog in the face and tried to pull my dog out. Eventually the staff helped get them separated but these things are definitely the owners fault. Dogs do what dogs do and owners need to keep a handle on them.

Unlike that ******* in L.A. in full duty gear rolling five deep, this off duty officer probably only had a sidearm and did what she had to do. Circumstances are key.

Not everyone that thought the L.A. shooting was a no balls fiasco is a cop hater. That's just ****** labeling to make you comfortable with opinions you don't like.

A good friend of mine is a L.E.O. and thought the L.A. shooting was ****ed. Haven't had a chance to talk to him about this, but he'd probably agree it was necessary. Apples and oranges; with .40 S&W holes in them.

Unfortunately, the shallowest end of the human gene pool has always gravitated towards pitbulls and rotts as their choice in pets.

*No offense to the dogs themselves, or the responsible owners who suffer because of the idiots who get them to look "cool" with no idea how to socialize them around other dogs.

It has every thing to do with the owner.
