Haven't seen film yet or heard of him for that matter, but interesting pickup.

Can he truly play all LB spots like the reporter said, or is he a CAT like bonnet said in his interview? If all, staff can be flexible in the rest of lb targets. If cat, are we slipping badly on Williams?

If he ends up on the line, are we transitioning to a 4-3 with the idea that its too tough to land a true NT? Lots of 4-3 guys in this class.

Either way, interesting pick up!

Good for him. Long time fan, camps for an offer and earns it, commits immediately?!?!!? Sounds like he is one of us. I love it, and am glad to have him!

What a great story. A guy whose whole family loves Notre Dame. He comes to camp without much fanfare and is a stand out...gets an offer and accepts his dream offer instantly. Congratulations to Jonathan Bonner. His tape looks very good, the writes ups scream underrated talent, his actions say: Notre Dame man through and through.

II has some tape up from the RCS in St. Louis. He's very long for 6'3 but you can tell that he is very raw. Almost seems as though he needs to grow into his body still, ala Okwara. With some good coaching this could end up being a steal.

I wonder how they found about him? Did he just show up to camp? Had the seen his fim before? Did Sergio Brown tell them about him?

Will be interesting to here the full story on this

Something I find interesting is that I haven't seen TJ at II comment on this kid yet even though everybody is asking him for it. I know he's posted today about other topics, am I missing something?

Probably wants to let the idiots that hate this offer die down first before commenting

Yup physically reminds me of Okwara coming out. Pretty much have the same game to it seems.

Loved his tape. Aggressive, good instincts, relatively quick, doesn't appreciate being blocked, pursues very well. Oh, not a bad tight end as well. Laid some wood on special teams. Excelled at camp against the best competition. Welcome Jonathan!

Personally, I didn't see much to get me excited on his film. He didn't seem overly athletic or strong to warrant BCS offers.

But I only watched 6 minutes, I'm a terrible evaluator unless the talent is obvious, and I trust the staff.

If he's as versatile as reported, he could be key.

253 lbs as a HS junior and can easily put another 20, 30 lbs per some scouts, looks like he will play with the hand on the ground.

For full disclosure, when I saw this I thought: "HUH? Another preferred walk-on?", but that was because I'd never heard of the young man. It rapidly dawned that this was a real offer.

When I saw his offer list I thought: "Well, OK... must be some kind of hidden sleeper... maybe like Michael Deeb, who's a guy I think will be great. Wonder how this happened though".

Then I read his words. Remarkably literate, intelligent, high-quality, and lifetime Notre Damer --- Good ... RKG".

But the complete relaxer: He was right in front of our talent-evaluator genius staff, allegedly stood right in the face of Barr and the OLine Bombers, and the staff said: WOW!

This guy must have "it" whether the rating services and the other staffs who are happily asleep know it or not. So BOO-JAH!!! Way to go Jonathan!!!

That's my impression. From what I've gathered:
  • Impressed our staff in pass-rushing drills against elite OL talent;
  • Offered expressly as a ROLB; and
  • Some (his coach?) have speculated that he could easily put on good weight.

So he stays lean and follows Shembo's path, or he bulks up and follows KLM's path. I agree with the comparisons to Okwara. Regardless, that kind of versatility is very helpful, and it sounds like he's got a high ceiling.

Stick with your day job.

There was plenty to get up about in his film. How about that he caught up to a RB from behind within 10 yards. Or his ability to shove offensive tackles back into the LOS, jamming up holes. Not much to get excited about a kid athletic enough to be the starting TE on his HS team.

The kid is a hell of a player. His HS is about 15 min away from me so I'll check him out a few times this fall.

Also, with the recent transfers, we have a little room to take some 'projects' if need be. On that note, I don't think he's a project. He can be a solid contributor to ND football.

True. But if you live in STL (as you appear to) you know the East Side is a whole different animal than Parkway. And those kids seem mostly to go to Illinois.
Good point on the O Linemen. And there have been some others recruited nationally the last few years, just always been unclear to me why HS football here isn't better.

Because the talent is so spread out. Track meets were the best though because all the talent was brought together to compete.

... Lol. Ok, Madden.

Look, I already said I'm no scout, which apparently you are. You see something else, that's fine. Doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I realize that last post may have come off a little agressive, but I didn't really mean it that way. Just telling you some things you have have missed that can lean you into the field of understanding why the staff may have taken him. And no, I'm not a scout... don't pretend to be. I just think this kid is a solid player. Compare his film to a few 4:s: and you will realize it's not too entirely different.

And as a wise man once told me, 6' 4" 245# HS kids don't grow on trees.
