I don't believe Cackalacky, phillyirish, whiskey, bluto or dshans are from this generation and they are as Sissified as it gets... so explain that to me...
Just what is it that you want explained? The whole "generation this and generation that is ___" is bullsh¡t. I was raised a Catholic and went to Parochial schools from the second half of first grade through graduation from ND. I haven't considered myself a
Catholic since I was 14. I am
catholic.
My father served in New Guinea as a finance officer during WWII. He never talked about his experiences, other than the time, as a Captain, he pulled his gun (the only time) to "encourage" a scared-out-of-his-*** Private to keep his head down on the LST. That revelation came only after the SSS draft had been ended and my #34 draft number was no longer in play.
We had come to loggerheads many times regarding the US "excursion/incursion" in Viet Nam. We were both a bit ambivalent. He wasn't thrilled with my stand but respected it to some Jesuit trained extent. I was willing to refuse induction and spend time in Leavenworth. Flight to Canada was not in my cards though I can't blame at all those who took that option.
Keep in mind that the US has not been embroiled in a congressionally sanctioned war (as envisioned and required by the Founding Fathers) since WWII.
What the hell am I rambling about? Hell if I know. My father was the son of Irish immigrants. My grandparents, at great sacrifice, found a way for him to have a violin and lessons during the Great Depression, attend a Jesuit Military (shudder!) high school and get a degree from Fordham.
I raised my son to respect people. Especially women. When it (accidentally) came to my attention that he'd been visiting "nookie.com" when he was about 13, I made it clear that I understood, but that if I found him treating women as objects or toys he'd be in deep sh¡t.
At 25 he's doing well. He's taken advantage of the "math gene" that he inherited from my father (it clearly skipped a generation). He's also, at this point, as opened minded and "liberal" as I'd hoped.
He was born in 1987. What "generation" is that?
