From what i have gathered the last few days it has gone from a .02% chance he shows to like a 5%. take it for what its worth
Any indication when NCAA is going to decide his appeal?
Any indication when NCAA is going to decide his appeal?
And when the kids really faces the fact that he is going to spend a year away from the game?.
I don't think EV transferring is as terrible a 'career' decision as some have made it out to be. If he breaks his LOI he can enroll at another school (i.e. UCLA), be on scholarship immediately and practice with the team in 2013 while taking a redshirt. He then has 3 years to play 3 seasons (2014-2016). That basically puts him on the same career trajectory as Nix without the luxury of redshirting if he misses a season (or most of a season) to injury. It's not ideal, but certainly not worth spending 3-4 seasons at a University you don't want to attend.
talent... but he's one serious injury away from being in a heap of trouble if he goes that route. Then what happens if things don't work out at that university? What if coaches get fired and the new coaches don't like you/you don't fit the scheme and you have to transfer? What if you get injured? What if you have academic problems and need to withdraw OR can't finish in the 4 years and don't have the 5th to get your degree?
There is a lot of inherent risk to the 3 to play 3 that is hard to grasp until you put yourself in the athletes' shoes. You're effectively forfeiting 40% of your eligibility. Under ideal circumstances you're correct... not a huge deal. Practice year, breakout second year, great third year => NFL first round pick. Sadly, that only happens for a very small minority of players. EV's odds are increased by being a 5talent... but he's one serious injury away from being in a heap of trouble if he goes that route.
no way Jim Mora stays at UCLA for 3 more years, it simply won't happen. BK could be at ND easily for 10 or more.
I hear ya...lots of 'what ifs'... but sometimes you have to follow your heart and take chances. It's not ideal, but better than going to a place you don't want to be and have to transfer to a school ND allows you too. What if he doesn't crack the 2-deep as a freshman on the best DL in the country, transfers to the school where his heart is (if ND allows it), redshirts as a soph after barely playing as a freshman, and then plays 1-2 seasons before bolting for the NFL (he doesn't strike me as a 5-yr player). That puts him on the trajectory of Lynch. The Nix trajectory is much better. Point is, not as TERRIBLE a career decision as some have made it out to be.

The disappearing act after the NC game disagrees.
The what ifs are if you limit your eligibility. You realize the number of players that make it in three seasons of competition to the NFL? Less than fifty. Do you realize the number of college football players that make it through four years without an injury? O. There are 20,718 college football injuries a year; 841 are spinal injuries. EV's chances are reduced by a factor of something like 500 in giving up one year to prep and one year of total playing time, in other words 40 percent of his eligibility.
This "heart" thing. This heart thing is a bunch of bilious dung, someone made up. When you're 18, your heart is where you put it, because it could be anywhere; that is what an 18 year old is!
And if he plans on the basis of "what if I don't make it to the two deep", he should give up his plans to play college football. Anyone that unsure of themselves should.
Anybody that would say giving up a shot at graduating from Notre Dame for a high school diploma, because that is exactly Aaron Lynch's trajectory is full of shiit, or a product of incredibly disorganized thinking.
Can you tell me how long a player has to remain in college before declaring early for the NFL? I didn't think so. More disorganization.
My seven year old son did a report for what he wanted to do when he grew up. He wanted to be a pro football player. He had a stat; 7 million kids play high school ball, 255 are drafted and a couple hundred more get tryouts or free agent contracts. A big part of his report was how he had to go to a good college and get a degree, that would help him get to the NFL, and help him if something happened and he didn't make it in the NFL. That was a 7 year-olds logic, can anyone improve on it?

Who can forget our favorite Jim Mora interview ever...
Just really unsure if BK takes him under the pretense that the kid has no option but to play at ND.(kind of backed into ND) BK often says either you want to be at ND or you don't. I coach the kids who want to be here.

i sure hope EV knows what he is doing...there is a $7 Million V-bucks bet on the line between 2 IE members.
one of their lives will change forever depending on "eddies choice"
I'm not sure what you are saying here. Less than fifty this past draft? That is still a lot. Less than fifty ever? Less than fifty the past 10 years? That is far, far less. Less than 50%?
Not sure where this number comes from either. Everybody that plays football gets hurt, but not everybody gets injured, or at least to the point of missing games. So in that sense your number is misleading. There are MANY players that go through their college carers without missing games, and that's a much more important number than just 'players with injuries'. Zach Martin, Zeke Motta, Manti Te'o, Chris Watt, Prince Shembo, Theo Riddick, etc are guys off the top of my head that didn't/haven't missed games at ND.
Football is a violent, violent game though, so I do agree that EV is taking a big risk by skipping out on his LOI.
I disagree; it's not just made up, it's absolutely real, as we've seen this time and time again. When a kid doesn't want to be here, when his 'heart' is in another place, it usually just doesn't work out. You can't just put a kid at ND and expect his heart to be there because that is where his heart was put. We can HOPE that the magic of the place rubs off on him, but it doesn't always work out that way.
EV has been focused on the depth chart from the jump, as (unfortunately, in some cases) many kids his age are. He was worried about that with USC, and it was brought up a lot during his recruitment. And it was a draw to ND. Hopefully he doesn't base his future decision on "what if I don't make the 2-deep", because that would be a shame. He's so talented though, I don't even see that as a problem.
That's a very easy question for anyone to answer, and I'm sure he knows. 3 years after your high school class graduates. Not sure how the leads to more disorganization.
Good for your son. However, not to disparage the facts of a 7 year-old working his tail off in school, but in case someone regurgitates your info, his numbers are a bit off, or maybe you misrepresented them? 7 million kids play high school sports, not high school football (or 'ball'). That's including girls' teams. About a million play high school football. Still not good odds though, obviously.
$7 million isn't that much by vbuck standards. With v-inflation that is like $2000.
The one I heard was like 7 billion vbucks. Wait maybe I better check my notes. LOL!
LOL. You Win!
by the way...does anyone know if kelly has reworked his (and the asst coach) deal(s)?
thought would have been done a while ago
I'll be in Auburn for a night over the 4th of July weekend. If he's not at ND do you guys want me to go beat him up?
I read somewhere that the deals were done with the coaching staff, and it would be very difficult to lure them away now with HC job offers. Salaries have been increased significantly.
There has not been an official press release though.
