Guys who sign their LOI and still plan to give a press conference (for lack of better words) are not doing so to tell everyone they're going to the school they signed their LOI to.

Let's move on.

Not only that, but if he intended to tell us his reasoning - the truth - he would have done so when the story went public. This long of a wait smells of dishonesty and justification. Moving on until real news breaks about the awesomeness of our other 2013 recruits in June.

I normally stick up for journalists, but this Davidson guy is a bit grating. Enough with the "I'm real tight with the family and know what's really going on here and Notre Dame fans are being stupid" business. If EV really has a good reason for this, people will understand, just like they did with Davonte Neal and even, to a degree, Aaron Lynch. But no one's heard it.

That said, racial taunts? Really? Uncool. But what "race" is Vanderdoes anyway? Dutch?

If there are two things I just can't stand, its racial intolerance... and the Dutch.

This is one too many press conferences for this kid.

Come on, make up your mind and just go with it... if it's not the Irish, fine, but take your medicine.

No need to be holding press conferences, it seems really petty. Not a good look.

His Twitter followers and page views increased by a hundredfold during the Shaq Thompson recruitment, just as they did with the Vanderdoes saga. No surprise he's milking it for all it's worth.

I think Eddie's mom is African-American. Davidson likely found a couple offensive posts toward EV on social media (welcome to the internet) and mentioned it to add some drama to an otherwise pointless article. This is what you get when there's nothing of substance to report.

The last sentence is interesting:

If Vanderdoes does get a release from his letter of intent and attends another school, he may have to redshirt a season. We will keep you posted.

Seems to imply that there's some family dynamic here that might prevent him from playing as freshman, even if he's released from his NLOI. Not sure how that would help anything... might allow him the freedom to drive home on the weekends? It's still a huge time commitment, though. If the situation is serious enough to merit this circus, why not just defer your enrollment for a year?

So much drama here haha. Guess thats what you get with some high school kids sometimes. On another note i follow Deeb, Jaylon, and Greg Bryant on twitter and cant wait to have those guys in Blue and Gold. This class seems so close and ready to just get to work. Combine them with Coach Kelly and staff and the future still looks good for the Irish.

We don't need a reason. I wouldn't let a player out of an LOI under any circumstances.

Exactly. Couldn't agree more. Not only does it set a precedent for the University, it also teaches these kids their word means nothing because there's a Plan B to fall back on with no consequences.

I agree, HOWEVER, whatever reason that comes out, I'm going to be inclined to call bullsh!t.

Think about it...if a family member is sick, you come out and say it right away and everyone is sympathetic. We've all had sick family members, so that tugs on all our hearts (well, most of us, cough, irishpat. Just kidding! kind of). If he had said so when he first heard about it and was having 2nd thoughts, the backlash would have been FAR less. There would have been immediate pressure for ND to let him out of his contract. ND recently let Alex Bullard transfer with no restrictions to be close to his family in Tennessee, so there is precedent.

Instead, because they have waited so long, it makes them look (at least to me), as if they are grasping for straws. It just smells way too smelly it this point for me to buy pretty much anything they are selling.

Sorry EV, like Jughead said...take your medicine. It's just.

(BTW...you buy a me a beer at a tailgate and I'll tell you a pretty crazy story about a parent of a ND player basically begging media members to write a positive (false) story about their son who was leaving Notre Dame. No PM's LOL.)

Gotta be Lynch...

If it's something tragic, ND would know about it and they would let him out.

It's not and they're not. I feel like we're about to hear a whole load of horseshit.

Tired of this crap. If he leaves it will be disappointing, but in the end I want ALL IN players. Best of luck to the laddie.

What is the point of even bringing this up? There is no chance we would be having this discussion if it was something like that. So OK, maybe there are one or two EXTREME circumstances that would call for a guy being released, but none of those are in play right now - so who cares?

I find this circumstance extreme, and probably a good chunk of what we will hear about tomorrow. He just couldn't come to grips with:

Does anyone else see a correlation between rumors of Golson and vander whipping up the ole cold feet sitz? Feel like it may have some legs after reading the rivals column...

I'd give it less than 1% chance. EV has had cold feet for over a month, apparently. Golson's issues came within the past couple weeks (probably even sooner).

And I doubt a 2013 DL cares what a 2011 QB is doing. He's more concerned with MZ than Golson.

So, how do you all think EV and his family will approach their announcement. Mud slinging and accusations? I'm thinking so.
