Golson threw away a huge opportunity. Really rough to watch a kid do that. I hope he learns from what has happened and that everything works out for him down the line.

Tommy has thrived in situations in which he has had to "save the day" but it is obviously a less dynamic offense without Golson. Also, when teams have a chance to game plan for a Tommy-run offense we have struggled.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hendrix (assuming he's capable) in the hopes that we could get two years out of him. Quite honestly, I'm far less concerned about this year with Tommy, Andrew, and Malik than I am about 2014 when we have Malik and....? A 5th year Hendrix? Didn't look likely yesterday but maybe this changes it. Other than that it would be Malik and any freshman we could bring in.

I've read some stuff that Gunner could technically stay but I think that would be extremely unlikely. I think Kelly would find a way to welcome him back without grovelling (I would grovel) but I don't know how Gunner could possible lead the team day 1 / the team be completely behind him. I worry that bridge is burned even if he wanted to stay.

It is almost getting to the point where I can't check IE before bed. The even scarier part with all the drama surrounding the program, is that it seems to be escalating. After this I can't imagine what the next step up would be.

Time to try and sleep.

totally agree with bolded...but at this point we got what we got, and the coaches know what that is, so if Tommy trots out as the starter, then none of the other guys seized on the opportunity...

and as you mention, I don't think its an easy nor clear path for Kiel to try and stay...I know I wouldn't want him if I were on the team...

I don't know how he can get that much better. Has he gotten a stronger arm? Has he gotten more mobile? Did he play so much last year to get that much better? Against good defenses?

And what scares me with Tommy, there is no Floyd and Eifert to bail him out.

Now the good thing is our coaches are smart, and they will adjust. And GAII, William, Amir, Bryant and the crew will have to rise. And Hercules will have to really make a huge impact. Our defense looks to be very good next year, and will have to carry us.

But, Tommy scares the crap out of me on the field. When he faces good defenses he folds. I believe he averaged under 200 yards passing and 2-1 turnover to TD. So, losing EG is big time bad if we have to rely on Tommy for offense. He was OK when he had 2 first round talent catching the balls from him. But, we don't have that and Tommy doesn't look to have a stronger arm or become more mobile.

This is Bad. But, we do have 1st round talent on defense and IMO Z Martin on the offensive line. STill love the Irish, will always support. But, Tommy taking over just makes me sick.

Kinda upset I didn't get to tell rtrn2glory that he sounded like an idiot each time he said that he "could care less" and like an *** for the Clarett comment.

BK's leadership abilities have to be under question. There are always going to be some issues, especially living under a microscope ala ND. However, the amount of issues that have popped up during his tenure is unreal. IMO, any BCS school that had this many issues would be under the same type of scrutiny. He has a lot more than schemes to worry about.

Re: rtn2glory-plenty of azzhats on here like poking their finger at one person. Unless there are some deleted posts-I saw no reason for the hammer. Seemed to be alot of angry people on here.

Did not like the back story of Ferguson/Neal-throwing the BS flag on that. Especially people (probably me) who stuck up for the kid and now look like a joke.

I'm just as perplexed as everyone. Why? How? Who? Questions that are regularly going through my mind at this moment.

I am very unhappy that Everett Golston is not now enrolled. But, perspective. Notre Dame is unique. Some universities have football and academics e.g., currently Stanford. Some insititutions have honor and discipline e.g., West Point and Annapolis. Notre Dame is the only one that combines football, academics, honor, discipline and a moral compass. It is not very unique. It is simply unique, Unique is unique.

Notre Dame is the curse and the blessing, the agony and the ectasy, the pain and the pleasure. Notre Dame will do it the right way. Period. I would rather have Notre Dame be true to its principles and never win a National Championship or win it one out of 10 or 20 years than become corrupted and win it 5 or 10 years out of 10 years.

A Notre Dame degree is significant. It is valuable. It will set up up for 50 years because you earned it whether you were a football player or not. It shows you can abide by the rules you have agreed to abide by, you are disciplined, you have got your ego in check and you can work with other people within an organization to achieve goals.

Notre Dame will view academic fraud or plagarism very seriously beacuse the players on the football team are actually students and are actually earning degrees. At football factories academic fraud and plagarism are irrevleant and "ain't needed" because the football players if they are given degrees are given joke degrees, meaningless degrees.

jimmymac your thoughts were extremely valuable and confirm what I thought - Notre Dame makes it abundantly clear, hits you over the head with a 2 by 4 again and again and again repeatedly telling you - NO DRUGS IN THE DORMS. NO! NO! NO!

This is Notre Dame's property and Notre Dame's responsibility. If you use drugs in the dorms, you are screwing up big time. You have been told repeatedly. NO!!!

Why did Stephon Tuitt end up at Notre Dame? I think it was because Stephon's mom understood that Notre Dame was unique. I might be wrong but I think it was because Stephon's mom and Stephon ultimately understood that Stephon would get a great education, that he would actually be a student and that he would be setting himself up for the next 50 years whether or not he became an NFL star. I believe other great football players will end up at Notre Dame for the same reason. I hope that enough of them will end up at Notre Dame to win a National Championship.

Of course I want Notre Dame to win every National Championship but first and foremost, I want Notre Dame to do things the right way. The Notre Dame way.

This just goes to show that ND is not a football factory. It is unprecedented for the starting QB to get kicked out of school. I am still In shock from this. Like anything like this though, keep it in perspective, it could be much much worse.

Does Jeff George have any eligibility? He always shows up in situations like these.

The Twitter quote in the EV thread about summer school, is that referring to Golson or EV?

In case I wasn't clear: Summer school starts June 17. Golson isn't enrolled at ND. Will he be then? That's next. Not sure ND rules allow it.
— Keith Arnold (@KeithArnoldNBC) May 26, 2013

This is gonna come across harsher than its meant, and I don't know all the info regarding this situation or the recent transfers and such either, but as a fan if drugs and cheating were ok with me inside of my football program, I woulda became a fan of another team.

Me too!

When you say slept like a baby do you mean it in the sense that you had a good sleep or do you mean it in the real sense that you woke up several times crying for your mommy needing to be held? Just checking.

Standards didn't hold us back last year. Plagiarizing (and getting caught) is one of the worst things someone could do in college. Definitely not blaming the standards on this one. This is all Golson
