Just think if UGA wins the SEC championship game. They had it in their hands. Our matchup with them would have been sooo much better than Bama.

I don't agree.

We had some big wins for sure, but the timing on a lot of them was very fortunate for us.

We faced a Barkley-less USC. A Hogan-less Stanford. A down Oklahoma, a down MSU, a down Miami, a down Navy, etc.

I think we were a top 10 team for sure, but not elite.

I thought teams like: Alabama, Oregon, Stanford, Texas A&M, and maybe even Georgia were a notch better/more complete teams.

I could agree with Bama, obviously, Texas A&M, and Georgia, I'm not sure how you could put Stanford in as a team a notch better/more complete team then we are, strictly based off of " A Hogan-less Stanford", at this point you are just assuming he would of had a better game then Nunez did in that downpour. No other college QB could have came in and performed a whole of a lot much better, or at least better enough to be a notch better if that QB had been in there. I forget, but didn't we beat Stanford? And there were parts of that game that our backup QB (TR) had to come in and make some big plays, I.E Slant to TJ two yards behind him. If anything we were a notch better than Stanford at the end of the season, Hogan may make the team better, but you can't argue that Stanford got better than we did towards the end of the season.
Regarding Oregon, well there's really no premise to compare the two teams except for similar teams faced, which in this case was Stanford, which I believe I already made my point with them. So Oregon, IMHO, not a notch better than us either, they had a nail biter at the end and Stanford came out on top, just as we did against Stanford.

I think we get too much credit for things falling our way this past season, yeah the 4th down pass from Tommy against Purdue helped a lot, yes the Stanford goal line stand helped keep Stanford from having to hit the XP to tie the game (Not win, but just tie the game, for you Stanford fans), but could we possibly look at the flip side of that, and look at the things that didn't go our way? Injuries? Lack of Depth everywhere, QB controversy all off season, players getting suspended, calls not going our way all the time too, 5 maybe 6 healthy o-linemen all year. The fact that we played a HS running back at CB, an unexperienced Safety position. I'd also like to go back to the Bama, Georgia and A&M, and the fact that they over sign every single year to help relieve QB controversies, injuries, suspensions and lack of depth, which we have had to face in recent years.

Cack, bro. I have been on this in multiple thread, including Ben Koyak's just recently. Martin, Elston, Booker and Kelly have all said it in interviews this spring. People that have watched practices have seen it.

Apologize Bogs, I did not get a chance to sit down and actually watch much film last year (I am trying to catch up LOL so i wached them all last night.) I just specifically remember whiskey saying this recently.

Such an impressive class......

Please don't appologize. Besides I probably stole my mojo from Whiskey, after all this isn't 'Nam. We got rules here!

If you think we would have beaten Georgia either, your veins are full of green kool-aid.

Wouldn't have changed ND's challenges heading into the week, but Georgia is much more human than Bama. It would have been a MUCH better game.

You give Saban any time over a week to prepare and he will kill you. Mark Richt is no where near the coach Saban is. I am not saying we would have beaten Georgia, but it would have been a very competitive game, and I don't think it is crazy for someone to think we would have beaten them.

Yeah i agree Georgia was a very good team but they also got Bama when they didnt have a whole month to prepare. I understand both teams had a month before the title but with Saban as coach and Notre Dame not having the same type of depth it gave Bama a much bigger advantage in that game than they had against Georgia. I think we would have played Georgia alot closer and it could have gone either way.

Also, playing the game of comparisons doesn't work. Georgia got smashed by South Carolina who needed a last second fumble/recovery/touchdown pass to beat Michigan. So using how close Georgia played Alabama to argue how they would've beaten ND is nonsensical.

Guess what I should have said was with the way we played that day, we wouldn't have beaten Georgia. Even with five weeks of preparation I think Georgia and a few others would have beaten us but it wouldn't have been the curb stomping Bama dished out.

Back to Bars. As many others have said, this is the kind of recruiting that is going to keep us at an elite level for many years to come.

Welcome to ND Alex.

Would be kinda cool to see one of those breakout in the middle of the game.
