I'll miss the UM rivalry. A good fight gets the blood boiling. I just don't get near the satisfaction out of seeing the Irish beating Perdue, Pitt, etc.

I have a feeling this game is going to be a blow out. But that hinges on our offense. They have no Kovacs or Ryan on D and no Denard on Offense. Their running game led by Fitz "The Headless Horseman" Touissant is not scary at all, and their best receiver is the TE who had 8 catches last year?

Kelly better pull all the stops out this year.

Fun stat of the day, Part Deux; UM's only consensus national title was on a revote of a national championship originally given to the Irish after the '48 season, after the January bowl games, when ND did not compete in bowls, had an undefeated team in the years Michigan refused to schedule them, and was contrary to every custom of the era. Every year the NC was awarded after the regular season, and from '36 the AP/UPI award was recognized as the big one. ND got it and the MacArthur that year, until the Detroit sports writers reconvened and took it away from ND in January! Other than that the Wolverines have been Ofer!

Sucks that this rivalry is ending. Michigan St ... Meh x infinity. And Purwho... nice that it's in-state,,, but ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Give me Michigan and IU any day over those two.

Michigan State, and Notre Dame was born out of respect. ND actually had a lot to do with Michigan State developing as a modern University in the late 40's. And ND added a lot to the Spartan football program.

Michigan - ND was all that was wrong about football. From the Wolverine Athletic Club to Fielding Yost, from the racial bigotry to the exclusionary tactics of the Western Athletic conference, it is all that is bad about football, and it made ND a national power with a national following.

I still get mad every time I think of my great-uncles telling me what it was like to be Irish Catholic on the streets of Detroit in certain neighborhoods in the late 19th and early 20th century.
