I don't mind a #9. As we all know, these preseason polls are meaningless. But we are a legit top 10 team....like last year, win and you're in. Should be a fun season.

The funniest thing is that Stanford... a team we beat, had more losses, and struggled with a 6 loss big ten team in their bowl game... is a top 5 lock.

People have overreacted like crazy to the championship game blowout.

Stanford may have beaten us with Kevin Hogan at QB. They're going to be really good this year.

They lose a lot though, while their line will be stout, Taylor is gone, Ertz is gone and I think their top WR is gone as well. I'm not worried, the mitigating factor here is a road game.

What does this mean? Because we play them in the sand pit this year. Probably a better team than last year, with Barry Saunders, Jr., and a bunch of young talent they could be better this coming year than next. It is two years when they could suffer a fall off.

In two years, they'll certainly suffer a huge drop off.
Still can't wrap my head around stanfords recruiting. They're notre dame, but with an enjoyable climate.. And an even more successful recent history.

I feel like brining recruits in shouldn't be so difficult.

"The could only bring a small class and they had certain holes to fill," was the argument for something like the 63rd rated class they pulled in. But I don't buy it either. I know they will get a short class every four years, but that doesn't mean poor and short, does it?

The Michigan game will certainly be a good one, always will be. But there are some big time question marks for the offense of Michigan. They replace all of their interior linemen, breaking in a new running back with pretty much a new offensive line won't be easy, and I think they lost all of their starting receivers?

Nope, they only lost 1 in Roy Roundtree.

Gallon (5'8) is the top target returning with Dileo as a strong slot guy.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this year's cycle. Do they get quantity (since they can afford to) but not quality? or both? I think they will get somewhere in the middle. It will be tough for them to get 3 5* guys like 2012, but more 4* are a definite need to protect this small class.

What does this mean? It means an eastern team is flying west to play in their stadium. Perhaps that was difference in Stanford travelling to ND this year? I fully expect us to win because I don't think they will be as solid as last year.

Wait, your top target is a 5'8"? Yikes. I like Gallon as much as anyone, but to be the #1 WR on any team is pretty crazy. Frankly a rebuilt line with a still learning Gardner, and remember his hype was against the dregs of the BIG, and the rest of the receivers don't scare me at all. Funchess dropped off during the year. How's the RB situation?

Wolverine in another thread said he'd put Funchess up against any TE in the country this year. I mean, he had 18 receptions, but that's just silly talk. Also, I've yet to see him block.

#9 is too high imho. I would ALWAYS much rather be the underdog! No sense in start #2 with only room to drop.
It'd better to be #15 or so and just bust our way up like the #2012Way.

The fact that they say Mark Harrell is competing for a starting job at Guard proves whoever wrote this knows nothing about the teams he is ranking. Michigan isn't a Top 20 much less a Top 10 team

OSU at #1 and UL at #4 are obvious indicators that this is a "most likely to go undefeated" ranking, and nothing more. No reason to get upset about it.

Well OSU has an easier schedule soo they must be the better team...

The OSU schedule is a joke. Urban Meyer should be fired if doesn't go 11-1. If there was a lock to go undefeated it is OSU.

Who is going to beat them? Michigan? please

I wonder if an SEC team, OSU, and ND all went undefeated what would happen. Would ND jump OSU because of SOS, especially if Standford is a powerhouse? I would hope so but with Meyer's reputation and these pesky preseason polls that come out in August, who knows.

If OSU is going to have a great season, I hope they go undefeated along with us. Pinch the SEC out of a title game, and we'd have a great chance of winning.

Team to look out for:

TCU at #18.

They have had to do alot of rebuilding but there defense (a Gary Patterson speciality) should be loaded with 10 starters coming back and 21 of 23 on the 2 deep.

I can't realistically conceive of the SEC champ getting frozen out of the NCG. An undefeated OSU is much more likely to keep a 1-loss ND out.

Let's just pray to God that we don't have last year's almost-scenario screw us out since we're again behind a team that COULD go undefeated. If OSU and ND finish undefeated, who gets the title bid (assume the SEC champ is in)? OSU started #1, so they will most likely retain that spot throughout the year, even if we finish #2 and undefeated.

I'll tell you who might beat them...

Cal - can't believe they almost lost to Cal, but they did. This year it's at Berkley too.
Indiana - almost beat them last year
Purdue - had the game wrapped up and let it slip away
Wisconsin - I still can't believe Ball fumbled
Michigan - always a possibility

Meyer is an amazing coach which is one of the reasons they were able to scrape out wins just like we were last year. However, tOSU isn't the juggernaut ESPN is making them out to be. They were more fortuitous than we were last year.
