Would you rather have Standifer or Rios? I think Standifer fits our scheme better.
I think Standifer has better ball hawking skills, but I want both of them!
PANDFAN, saddle up pardner

What sucks is that not only did we miss a really good prospect with the "slow play" but we also lost a guy from Arik's hometown who could be doing some serious work right now...
All in all, this is why oversigning is such a huge advantage. Alabama doesn't have to "slow play" anyone... if they want them, they sign them... and then figure out the numbers/cut them loose later if there isn't a scholly available.

This is what I do in NCAA 12!![]()
Except I wouldn't have to cut so many guys if I could have an 85 man roster as opposed to the 75 man roster EA forces on us...
Thought it was 70, at least in '11 it was.
Hmm...maybe it is. EVEN WORSE!
Seriously though, you can't be three deep at any position on the O-line if you want depth at other positions. It's crap.
I don't blame the kid for not showing anymore interest..
But, the reality is, if Mora had Shepherd/Darby verbally committed and guys like Poole and Wright heavily interested, Rios would have played second fiddle once again.
It's not like Mora's staff is more loyal or upfront than ours it's just that they have the opportunity to seem that way and pitch that sale.
It's kill or be killed out there.
Now watch Standifer's class won't get cleared and we will have 0 additions to this class.

Rios has a infection that "12 people had and 8 of which died from" behind his nose.
UCLA's Marcus Rios likely to miss season because of an infection - latimes.com
So... just to drop some medical knowledge:
It sounds like he has a mucor or rhizopus infection of the sinus. These are fungal infections that invade the sinuses and can make their way into the area behind the eyes and inside the skull. They tend to be very stubborn and hard to eradicate- typically requiring many surgeries for debridement and long courses on antifungal medication.
It's very odd that a young and otherwise healthy person would develop one of these infections, as we typically see it in patients who are immunocompromised (HIV, chemo, immunomodulatory therapy, etc.) or in people with diabetes. This is most likely just freakish bad luck. At the same time, the fact that he is young and healthy makes his prognosis more promising.
Typically, the prognosis is pretty bad- I saw a woman who lost an eye because of a similar infection. There is definitely a high mortality rate (cited at 30-70% for mucormycosis), but again, patients who develop these infections tend to be less healthy and more vulnerable- meaning I like his chances much better.
I'm assuming he is being treated at UCLA, which is a great place to be. Let's hope for a quick recovery and a return to normalcy. Godspeed, Marcus.
