no suprise here, as reported earlier Booker and Cooks were at John Curtis today (Malachi Dupre) and per Steve Hare ND told him they are very interested and want him to visit

We are invading Louisiana.

Indeed...

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>In Louisiana with my man @<a href="https://twitter.com/coachkerrycooks">coachkerrycooks</a> trying to get some Louisiana talent up to ND</p>— Scott Booker (@CoachSBooker) <a href="https://twitter.com/CoachSBooker/status/327154850011963392">April 24, 2013</a></blockquote>

Booker's star is rising so fast, it will be hard for ND to keep hold of him for long

Yes please. Had been more epic if his name was Kenny Powers.

For comparison sake Manti ran his shuttle in 4.27 and Ogletree ran his in 4.39.

Irish Interested In Louisiana LB

Cooks and Booker were at his school and left some grad rate info for him in coach's office along with some other material. Said he does have interest in ND and will visit if offered. Teammate of Malachi Dupre and says education is first and foremost in his recruitment.

This is part of one of two sets of twos that I want for this year.

Does the staff feel we are in very good position with a couple of ILB? I noticed there are some studs (according to stars/ratings) showing interest, and we are slow to offer. I think we are out for Clifton Garrett... are we waiting for Nyles Morgan? I think we could take more than 1 ILB with both Fox and Carlo leaving... why not offer these guys (D. Downs, Young, some other guys I am forgetting right now)?

Do you mean more than 2 ILBs? Don't forget about Martini.

The last I heard, the staff is in the process of evaluating ILB prospects. I don't think we are so much waiting for Morgan or anyone else as we are just trying to decide exactly which guys we want to offer. I think a round of offers will go out in the next few weeks.

Ahh, for some reason I thought he was OLB/ DOG type. Thats explains some if it, though last year we seemed to get offers out real early, this year we are a bit more hesitant- guess that is what a good season does. Thanks Emcee

I mentioned this in the Dupre thread a few days ago:

LSU seemed to have a large lead on Young until the UCLA trip. Supposedly, he was blown away by the visit and he's started to really look at his options outside of LSU.

He had a bad leg injury as a sophomore that apparently limited him last season, which is why he's a bit of a late-riser. I haven't been able to find specifics on the injury; it's always just described as "a [superlatively awful] leg injury."

Assuming Martini sticks and Moore gets a 5Y, one more ILB still only puts us at 6/8 for 2014. We need at least 2 more; preferably 3.

Agree with you Whiskey that we should be looking at 2 more ILB. On Mr. Young, I love this kids highlight tape. Plays extremely fast and aggressive.

This is what makes it kind of hard to forecast exactly how many LBs we'll take ... there are a few who could be both OLBs and ILBs. Martini is a guy kind of like Fox who would play OLB at a lot of schools and who we could use at OLB in a pinch (as we did Fox in the Purdue game last year). Then there's Richard Yeargin, who according to some reports could play ILB for us even though he appears built for OLB, a la Randolph.

LB is kind of like OL in this respect ... you may need fewer guys than you think if more of them can play both inside and outside.

We really don't have many guys who could legitimately swing inside or out.

  • Rabasa fits the physical profile of an ILB, but all signs point to him being a one-dimensional pass-rusher at this point (which is supported by his status as 3rd or 4th string ROLB).
  • The staff allegedly considered moving Councell to WILB, but he doesn't really fit the physical profile and he's reportedly excelling at DOLB.
  • Smith could play any of the 4 LB positions, but there's no doubt that OLB is where he'd have the greatest impact.

And I can't see Spond, Shembo, Williams, or Okwara moving inside either (for a variety of reasons). That leaves Randolph as the only real swing guy, and since our need is so much more pressing at ILB, I don't see how he starts anywhere but inside.

I agree with all that. I was referring to the incoming guys, Randolph and some of the 2014 guys we might end up getting.

I thought he's kinda open to other schools since his UCLA visit? Still bet on LSU but hopefully we can get a summer visit out of the pair.

He did say he was open but until he's on campus for a visit I can't give us legitimate shot here.

“@AnnaHScout: LB Kenny Young River Ridge (La.) John Curtis has held Irish offer since the winter & says he's high on Notre Dame's LB board. Story coming.”

So was it not official till a coach visited him or something?

This guy is an animal. I haven't been this impressed with the tape of an LB since Jaylon. Awesome instincts and aggression. Hope we land him.

In response to some negativity on the II board about legitimate interest from Young or LA kids in general TJ had this to say. Obviously it's tough to pull kids out of the state and especially to ND. We offered for a reason and been recruiting for months. Young is one of the top few guys on our board at ILB. The staff likes him a lot and think he fits ND. Alford's last visit was to reinforce this to him and coaches. As it stands currently, Young has expressed sincere interest in visiting this summer and or fall. "Staff believes we have a shot here." The other guys he mentions in relation to this topic are Trey Quinn, Cameron Sims, and Malachi Dupre. All players we want to visit at some point.

If you're not there you have no shot. If you show up and put in the effort you might occasionally come away with a great player. This staff believes it can pull a kid from any state if they are a good fit for ND.

Per:

Young, at 6-2, 220 pounds, fits the profile of an inside linebacker at Notre Dame.

"Kenny is a linebacker that has good size, runs really well and has good ball skills," Curtis said. "He's really an active linebacker."

247Sports slates Young as the No. 11 inside linebacker and No. 220 overall. Rivals ranks Young as the No. 10 outside linebacker and No. 199 overall.

Young could become an even more coveted prospect for Notre Dame, after linebacker target Dante Booker verbally committed to Ohio State on Thursday.
