if he were coming for first time i would say spring game would be better, but having already been here and bringing one of the "roadblocks" (parents) I'm glad the staff gets a free weekend with them.

Said his head is taking him one way an his heart the other. Visit is mostly for his parents. Talks to Alford most of the ND coaches. ND degree is reason he would leave NC for ND. Would like to decide before season but might need OVs

In my opinion, he wants to play for UNC. Closer to home. More action.

However, he sees the value in a 40 year decision.

Always follow your heart, Elijah. Unless of course your head is telling you ND.

idk guys we've had trouble with these types the past couple of cycles....imo if he really wants to go to UNC i'd rather him go there b/c eventually I think he'd end up there in the long run if that's where he really wants to go

Plenty of kids start off feeling "meh" about ND after coming and end up falling in love. I know for a fact Harrison Smith wanted to commit to Tennessee and actually only went to ND because of family pressure.

I'm not saying that we should force kids to come here. But I am saying that because a kid thinks he wants something in April doesn't mean he knows what he wants.

I hear what you're saying, but I feel like this would be setting up for disappointment

disagree. Vanderdoes/Redfield/Bryant were happily committed and didn't like ND enough to have them as a serious contenders at this point. I sincerely hope they don't turn out to be disappointments

none of the three men you mentioned have seemed to be worried about leaving home....each of the guys that have left have seemed to need to be pulled to ND instead of coming to south bend b/c they loved it here. they came for the degree, which is what they should be coming for.

i'm just saying when guys are attached to home that usually turns into an issue in the long run (see lynch and neal)

Don't want him to come here, find he doesn't like it and not be 100% in then transfer. That sucks

He should just take his time. If he chooses soon, no matter who he chooses, sounds like the recipe for a late in the game switch, which really doesn't help anyone.

I'd love to say go with your head because it will benefit us, but I rather see him go to a school he's 100% passionate for, and that is UNC.

We have this weekend to win he and his parents' hearts. If that doesn't do it, then I wish him the best at UNC.

Yep, I tend to agree that you can't go against your heart when you make decisions like this. You've got to be fully committed to the school you choose, or you won't be happy.

On the other hand ... lots of people come to ND unsure whether they made the right decision, and then come to love it there. In other threads the example of Harrison Smith has been advanced ... apparently he only chose ND because of family pressure, and he ended up staying 5 years, becoming a leader and first round draft pick. So there's something to be said for just getting them on campus and hoping there's more Harrison Smith than Aaron Lynch in him.

But what if there's more Aaron Lynch in him ... we have a surprising number (considering the depth chart) of talented RBs interested in ND this cycle, and I'd hate to turn one of them away if Hood is just going to transfer. Tough decision

What we can take from his statement is that he knows ND would be the better place for him, but he doesn't know if he can go that far from his parents.

Like Ironman said, if his parents are for him going to ND after this weekend, he may well have his answer. And if they're not, then he should probably go with his heart.

I dont think he has the same personality as Aaron Lynch, but I get the point you are making.

I say follow your head in this situation. It's telling him to choose the right school for all the right reasons. Your heart will catch up.

What I get from this is his parents are not sure if they want him so far from home. I think he is fine with it and wants to be at ND. If you get the parents to buy in then I think we get Hood.

I think his heart says ND but his head says North Carolina because of his parents' wishes.

I'm just glad part of him isn't telling him Michigan. Small victory for the good guys.

Then hook them up with an apartment in downtown South Bend.

Oh TOTALLY agree ... didn't mean to extend the comparison that far. All I mean is that a lot of kids come to ND with their heart not really in it ... some end up loving ND, and others don't.
