If there was a gap going into this visit between Miami and Notre Dame, there is definitely not one now. Parents really liked the entire community at Notre Dame.

ND is at par with Miami at this point and certainly exceeded his expectations in some areas.

Miami will need a big visit this weekend for the final shot.

This one won't be over until February.

Is this an update or a personal opinion? Because he's said he's making a decision next week and then he's done with recruiting, FWIW.

Think about if he picks ND though.... He is in Miami's back yard and they sure as heck won't stop trying to recruit him.

Any recruitment of a 5* player that commits before NSD isn't over until NSD. We saw it last year with Greg Bryant, Jaylon Smith, Alex Anzalone, and even Tarean Folston.

Elite players don't come easy, you have to stay on them until they have signed the dotted line

"Just look at your bedsheets, K.C. - what are they telling you?"

"Hello, Mr. McDermott, this is Al Golden calling. Just wanted to let you know that Shane ate three steaks today at training table. That boy can chow down! I bet your younger son can really eat too! Can you put him on the phone? I have a funny story to tell him! Oh, he is in the bathroom? Ok well I will call back tomorrow and let you know what Shane ate for breakfast."

Offensive linemen are usually the exception there though. Most commit early, and shut down the process.

The longer it stays this way, the more I think he goes to Miami

Hehe I remember when Anzalone "shut down" his recruitment... what? Three separate times? Even released a statement saying he was 100% committed and wouldn't talk to other schools. And his Dad said there was a 0% chance he would decommit after making his "final decision."

So I think it's 'personal opinion' from TT, but I also tend to share that opinion. For big time recruits, nothing is over until the ink is dry in February.

I get what you guys are saying, but it's an opinion based on the history of recruiting and it's wackiness. I just wanted to make sure McDermott hasn't changed his mind about his upcoming decision which it looks like he hasn't.

See I think it favors ND. Just like with EV.

It is not my intent to disagree with you, LAX, or TT. But, I don't think that you could find two recruits further apart than AA and KCMCD. Start with their fathers, master/servant, versus self actualization. I will go as far as saying the 5*s with all the histrionics are the ones that don't tend to prove out. Even Jaylon Smith, who had Michigan's star recruiter come down to talk to him said, "I am honored, no thanks." That recruiter then called Jaylon the real deal. I think next year when AA comes back from his injury, we will find out we avoided another transfer.

So then it comes down to how you feel. Choosing Miami or ND, I don't see KC as an AA type kid. I think he will make his decision and shut it down. Now anyone could miss something important. A class, or a conflict with a specific coach, and could make a simple change later, but I don't buy this world changes, back and forth thing. The really successful know what they want and find it.

I don't see how that tweet points him torwards Miami.

He knows his choice and he isn't telling ppl "very very close" to him.

A visit to Miami probably won't change anything. He's been there like a gazillion times

Why did you include Jaylon Smith on this list? After his verbal, he became a promoter/recruiter for the program, much like Elmer, Bivin, Bulter, JamesO, and Huermann.

He is a stone throws away from the Miami campus. That's what makes me nervous

I don't think that's the driving force in his decision, IMO. He has had all these years to watch his brother go play in a stadium of 5000 fans and he still is looking at other options. I think him playing it close to his chest is a positive because it would be easy to just say Miami being the location he lives (although its still well over an hour from W Palm Beach to Coral Gables). West Palm is not really a pipeline to Miami either so can I see him pulling the trigger to blaze his own trail in South Bend.

The coaches didn't stop recruiting him. They still went to his school and gave him a weekly phone call. He might not have looked at other schools but I'm sure other schools were still in his ear ESPECIALLY when the whole Kelly to the Eagles thing was going on.

Just because they are 100% Irish, they still have to talk/recruit him

Of course schools will still go after 5 star guys after they commit elsewhere but that doesn't mean the kids recruitment isn't over. For every anzalone there's a jaylon smith. If he commits to us or Miami next week, until reports suggest otherwise ill give McDermott the benefit of the doubt. He and his family seem to really do their homework.

It is also the third time the family has been through recruiting. Did the other two have drama?

I'm not very close to McDermott, and I can tell which way he's leaning. This kid is up for the challenge, and Notre Dame will provide that challenge.

honestly i'm leaning more toward miami. seems to really like the school to have visited so often, yes I know he lives very close, but i worry that distance will become a factor even if he says it isn't. down the stretchthe distance card comes into play

seems to be going about this the right way so can't fault him if he doesn't choose us.

Or maybe he visited often because his brother goes there.

I think the distance issue is a non-factor with him. His oldest brother went to Colorado State and he will also be at ND. The family knows the deal with distance and how to handle the ups and downs of it. We can always point out that with the ACC move it's not out of the question that we still show up in Miami during his career. To me this just comes down to the fact that he could have chosen Miami at any one of those 348 visits to see his brother or during his own recruiting - but he did not. I just get the impression that this family is made up of men who want to make their own way, and they are not afraid of where it will take them.

Sounds like he just went to practice and then left

“@dkurtenbach: Kc McDermott didn’t stick around for a recruit lunch at The U. Read into that fact what you will.”
