I'm sure Clayton would love to hear from you....Maybe you could teach him a thing or two about scouting linebackers?

Clayton is not a scout. He is a poor man's Chris Mortensen, a poor man's Adam Schefter with a rat tail.

Probably could.

When it comes to draft stuff, you're better off completely tuning out everyone who doesn't have "scouting" as their primary job title. Kiper, McShay, Mayock, Polian, etc. are who are worth listening to. For example:

1. McShay saying it COULD be a concern but he'll likely improve it at his pro day.
2. Polian saying it MIGHT limit his value for certain teams in certain scenarios IF their scouts determine he can't be a 3 down player in their scheme.

Both of those are reasonable, hedged statements. Saying "teams want a LB that can cover speedy RBs and TEs 1v1 in man-to-man schemes and not come off the field" is a gross over-simplification of the myriad of different LB roles/positions in modern defensive schemes.

Eifert = stud

These results don't even show his hands which I think are his best asset.

If we are talking about the least important workout at the combine, its probably bench press.

He needs to do well in the position drills and shuttles today though if he wants to make it in the top half of the draft.

Go Zeke!

Good lord......

You disagree? Tell me how bench truly matters in a game. The lift they should focus on if they want to really understand a player's strength would be a dead lift or squat.

Power clean is where its at. Its just too dangerous and involves the more technique than other strength workouts.

it is not the end all be all...however it is a strong indicator of upper body strength/endurance which is utilized in shedding blockers, tackling etc....now power clean as someone mentioned is a combo of upper body but lower body explosion...short term 1x rep

example i bodybuild and can bench 300+..which should translate to 225x10 or so...which is fairly accurate..however when u are going above 10 reps it is about what kind of training you do...i rarely train any higher in reps above 8 so at 10 im gassed....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't doing a lot of reps at 225 not necessarily mean you are "strong" (I quote strong because obviously these guys are, but I mean it in relative terms), but that, as you mentioned, they trained for this exercise.

Someone like yourself that does low reps, but higher weight usually adds more mass correct? Whereas lower weight higher reps creates definition?

He could also have really long arms too which could limit him. You just don't want to be last in any of the testing. Plus he looks jacked and that he should be able to do more. Hell Cierre did 5 more than him.

this is old school thinking ...it has to do w/ increased calorie intake in order to gain mass and by definition it is different ration of carbs/fats/protein, calorie deficient, cardio etc

correct on the "strong" ...it is simply a way of training which gets those muscles used to whatever it is it is being asked to do......i will note that ND paul longo works w/ our guys on olympic power moves which are quick explosions thus not training muscle endurance...because in football most plays are 10secs or less

I think Rudolph is better.

Question. For the ND-pro day, what will the guys be running their 40 on? The track?

You think so? Rudolph is great and I think he could be a top 5 tight end after next year. But Eifert's athleticism is absolutely through the roof and I think that is what separates the two

I think you guys are missing the point.....You can throw theories all over the place, but these are the tests that NFL teams use to judge you during your audition.

These are the numbers they use, regardless of what IE football scouting experts think.

11 reps on bench? Not good compared to the rest. No matter how "important" some on here claim it is.

4.8 40 for a potential 1st round MLB? Not good. And it will hurt him.

Until they start putting more emphasis on the other stuff (like power clean, which I agree is a better indicator), this is what it is.

This is ludacrous. Even the article is written to insinuate that he might be. What is out there at all that would suggest he is gay?

People need to stop focusing on what 'writers' or some football 'insider' say and listen to what the GM's are saying. Listen to the quotes of the teams. They don't care about that crap.

Not to mention a sports law attorney said that teams better be careful because that opens them up to sexual discrimination lawsuits.

Rudolph ran a better 40 and is bigger/stronger? Looking now for his 40 time.

I think Rudolph > Eifert as an overall TE. I think Rudolph was a second rounder only because he didn't play a complete season either of his last two seasons due to injuries... and therefor didn't have overwhelming film/production to point to.

So I think Rudolph was undervalued as a 2nd round talent and Eifert is deserving of a late first great.

And even if he was...who cares if he can play?

It's all for the media. They want this. Like you said, NFL teams don't care.

they do care....no one has come out and stated they are gay in the NFL that is currently playing however with current statistics you can bet there are plenty of people who are...but for fear they won't...and one of the reasons is because of becoming a target by media/ even as stupid as it sounds some people will change their opinions of said person and will become a distraction and bring negative media attention...

so yes it is media but the gm's don't want that brought in house
