What's the big deal? My 10 year old grandson commited to the Irish the day he was born.

In all seriousness, this is a shining example of the lows that this country has stooped to in search of the almighty dollar. I'm not talking just about the coaches, but the kids parents as well.

I've tinkered with the idea of writing a book on this. The title is "End of the Innocence",
"The day when playing youth sports stopped being fun."

The NCAA needs to step in and limit offering of scholarships until at least to the start of someone's sophmore season. This is just ridiculous.

Unfortunately there probably is no way to regulate verbal offers. If they did, the coaches would simply say "Dylan, we like you enough that we would offer you right now if we could, but we aren't allowed to make verbal offers to kids your age, but if wasn't for that stupid rule you would probably have a verbal offer. But I guarantee that you will get that verbal offer in another 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. We are counting down the days until we can give you that verbal offer.

They're going after sixth graders in basketball.

The QBs that were offered pre-14 are all students of Steve Clarkson. Clarkson must be pumping these kids up, and I bet that Clarkson has the ear of all the right people.

Sounds shady to me...kids pay big bucks to go to clarkson, clarkson pumps them up and gets them a scholly offer pre-14 (off of clarksons word), now more kids go to Clarkson. Rinse and repeat.

EDIT: I knew there was big money invloved, I just found this on wikipedia. This what Sills father (SIlls IV) bankrolled:
Following a freshman season, where Sills IV contributed to financing an entirely out-of-state schedule including air travel games to California

Who knows if the Clarkson students are any good or not, the only thing that is for certain is they all come from big money families.

Football: Steve Clarkson, quarterbacks guru - Los Angeles Times

Now, Clarkson is perhaps the most sought-after private coach among dozens who advertise their services as a means for a player to earn a college football scholarship and maybe a lucrative NFL contract. Today, Clarkson says he has about 50 clients, the majority paying about $7,500 for year-round group instruction.

That's no chump change.
