ND fans, this will be my first visit to South Bend when USF plays ND this season and wanted to find out the best places to eat in South Bend. I prefer local establishments over the chains. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. BTW, great hire in BK.

Taste of Asia at 5327 North Main Street, Mishawaka, is a very good place to eat. We go there all the time when we're in South Bend. Great food and affordable.

If you like wings than definitly Wings Etc. Probably the best wings I ever ate and I have been around alot of wings. I like to do the challenges. But like it was pointed out there is another thread that alot of posters put up good ideas to eat.

I haven't been to SB in a while, but here are some of my favorites:

Taste of Asia - went at least once a week and the owner would try to kick my butt when I asked for it extra hot.
CJ's - if you want a burger
Cosimo & Susie's if you want Italian
Bruno's was my favorite for pizza.
These were restaurants I frequented most often, but there are others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Are you guys talking about CJ's as in the CJ's you could get into easily with a fake ID and recently moved? I've never done anything but weekday drink there... they've got good food?

Yup I love hot food, so nothing better than to do wing challenges. I have yet to try the Wings Etc. one because whenever I make it up there something always comes up and I never have time to do it. I think the Buffalo Wild Wings challenge is the easiest one, 12 of their hottest wings in 6 mins. I ate them in around 4mins, and got a shirt and a picture on the wall.

Cj's has the best burgers in South Bend. Their seasoning is legit.

I live nearby, but haven't been to Rocco's in over 20 years, is it really that good? I don't remember hearing much about it, seriously!

No, it's not that good. But it's really good. One of the better pizza places around. Don't go on football weekends or you'll end up waiting hours to eat.

Has anyone heard of Oaken Bucket, along the river south of campus on Northside and Ironwood (Google maps :) )? I ate there a long time ago when I was in the area. Fantastic. Sat in a booth overlooking the river. Great burger. Is it still around?

Yeah it is still around. Pretty good food, I think the best part is if you are able to sit on the deck though. Whenever I make it home, especially if it is in the summer, the family tries to make it out there.

I knew I could count on you. Here's another one: H.I.'s in Niles. Again, it was a long time ago that I visited that place, but the experience was fantastic. Choo choo train running around the restaurant on the track near the ceiling. Great food, great atmosphere, and stunning lady next to me. We finished off the evening spending the night at Lake Michigan.

Oaken Bucket and H.I.'s. Two of the best nights of my life. And then I was back in the desert.
