ISD just posted in a recruiting notebook that Joey Brooks could end up suiting up at TE this next season. 6'6" 225... could be an interesting experiment.

Joey Brooks is a bench warmer on the basketball team for those who don't know.

I didnt even think he had an extra year of eligibility. He didn't redshirt as a basketball player

This could be cool. He always seemed like a fiery guy so if anything could be a great locker room presence. Great measurables though so should be if anything a fun story to follow.

Funny how average basketball players make great TEs.

6'6" athletes in basketball are a dime a dozen at least in comparison to football.

Many opt for basketball for several reasons though they'd be much better served playing football where athletes like them are a coaches dream.

Gives the Irish depth in the backcourt ... can play either as the point guard or shooting guard ... a quick, skilled player who displays innate skills on the court ... has great court awareness ... extremely athletic and can defend the ball well ... a great communicator on the court ... a smart player who can drive to the basket and shoot from the perimeter

I think he is this year

He is sitting out this year. There was talk before the season of him sitting this year out so he could transfer to a school closer to home (Texas) to play his senior year since minutes were going to be at a minimum for him. He talks a lot about how much he loves being at ND on twitter so its not surprising to me he would want to stay. Didn't really think it'd be on the football team. Could be an interesting experiment.

Very interesting idea. He would have a year of college eligibility left. Would he even be up to snuff enough with the ability to beat out our other TE's on roster. Would have to learn the offense, durability is a issue with him. Too many questions regarding this topic.

??? Have you seen Brooks play basketball? There is a reason he is redshirting as a senior--he is just plain awful. Worst shooter at the guard position I've ever seen, and ND's starting point guard is a 60% FT shooter, so that's saying something. Can't shoot, can't dribble, can't pass, just looks totally lost on the court at all times.

It used to be that you could get an extra year in another sport, so if you used four you could get one, used three get two, etc. Anybody have any information on this?

FWIW, he has been the best athlete/defender on ND's basketball team for awhile... just has no offensive game at all. He's a guard who can't shoot a consistent jump shot. I don't think he is his listed 6'6" though... always thought he was closer to 6'3" or 6'4".

This is certainly intriguing though... even if he never contributes.

I think he copy and pasted from und.com. They would write glowing reviews for anybody on the team

Whens the last time ND had a black TE? Lol.

We had Marcus Freeman who I think graduated in 2006. I know he caught a TD against SC in 06 when we got smoked.

Before that? Jabari Hollaway maybe lol

You are correct. I forgot about Freeman. But, the guy before him was Jerome Collins.

The next Antonio Gates.

Bueller...Bueller...

Anyways, ok..so, is this his last year of athletic ability? Not that this really matters much but for pure discussion, say he makes the team, is his bball scholly then turned into a football one?
