Meyer can be annoying to recruit against, but he's a far bigger problem for scUM than for us.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. May his reign over the (increasingly irrelevant) B1G be long, so that skunkbear tears will flow without ceasing.

Yep, I want that top all time winning percentage and the most all time wins eventually.

Yeah, what WhiskeyJack said. I've actually been pulling for OSU in recruiting.

We've been fortunate to avoid head-head battles (for the most part) with Urban... When he first committed, I thought he'd be a bigger thorn in our recruiting *** than Michigans, simply because his offense is a spread like ours, whereas Michigan's is pro (not to mention he's smack dab in the middle of our region).

EDIT: Is anyone else surprised BK and Urban haven't really had any recruiting battles through Urban's first two years?? Is there a mutual respect between them, or friendship or something?

Say what you want about Urban, but he can definitely coach and recruit with the best.

The evidence is still out on whether or not Urban can sustain a program over several years. He was a head coach at Bowling Green and had great success with someone else's recruits. He went to Utah and once again had great success with some else's recruits. He went to Florida and won a national championship with someone else's recruits. Then, he recruited very well and won another national championship with his own recruits. Many of his recruits had character issues or legal problems and the program imploded from within. He left for medical reasons (or his inability to keep his recruits on the team due to the aformentioned character issues) and said he needed a rest and wanted to watch his own children grow up. With little rest (a single season), he took the Ohio State job and went 12-0 with someone else's recruits. It remains to be seen whether or not he can sustain that program over the long-term. Past evidence would suggest otherwise.

I agree that Urban is a very good coach and that he can flat out recruit excellent athletes. However, I question whether or not he can sustain a program over the long-term. Two of his previous head-coaching positions were short-term. He remained at Florida for five years, but when all the recruits were players he had recruited the program self-destructed from within. "His" players did manage to win a second national championship, but when the program was imploding from within he conveniently left the mess for Muschamp to clean up.

Now he is at Ohio State. Let's wait and see if he can recruit players that can sustain a high level of athletic achievement over several years without getting into trouble with the law. The jury is still out on whether he can sustain a program and keep his players off the police blotters. When he can do that I will concur with those who want to declare him one of the best coaches out there.

The difference is Percy was a once a decade type of recruit. He was the overall #1 player in his class. To compare these 4* recruits to a talent like Percy is plain dumb, and they are even dumber for buying into it. The chances any of them turn out to have success like that is slim to none. There's a reason why Urban can only talk about one player from his many years as a coach - because guys like Percy are rare.

True, but you're underestimating the ego you'd have as a 4-star super freak throughout high school. I'm sure Deontre Wilson thinks Piercy didn't have **** on him coming out of HS.

I was a zero-star recruit with no chance at a single D1 offer, but yet at my small school I was twice first-team all conference, and I thought I was the fastest player in the world lol.

Can add Jalin Marshall to that list. Wasn't a big battle because Meyer won it quickly but I know he's a prospect the staff as initially quite interested in.

Looks like BK has a decent winning % in those battles so far.

What about Zaire? Neal? I know tOSU fans say Urban backed off of Zaire, but I though Urban kept calling him late in the game.

Eli Apple (Woodard) and Cam Burrows would probably be in there too. We wanted both, but both went of the board real early to OSU.

Neither had actionable offers, duh. You must have missed the memo. Meyer has never lost a recruiting battle. Not once.

Urban passed on Neal because his last step was always out of bounds.

At least that's Urbans story. Still can't believe he threw Davonte under the bus like that.

its so sad that bucknuts actually believe that crap. they also believe that Urban and two other coaches flew out to Arizona for an in home the week before signing day not to recruit him, but to tell him that they were no longer interested in him.

Thanks for the essay on Urban's career. I never talked about what kind of person he is or who he recruits. I know about the arrests. I know he blows smoke up recruits' asses. I know a third of his recruiting class will wind up in prison. I said he was a great coach and recruiter. 2 national championships, an undefeated season at Utah and another at OSU. Any argument about him not being a great coach stops there.

Like someone else said earlier, I don't know anyone still cares about him or his tactics. I'd rather see OSU pummel Michigan every year than vice versa.

Screw Ohio. I grew up in Toledo. Worst fans alive.

I hope we snag every recruit that we want from Ignatius, Cinci, etc. & Urban is chasing us always.

Obviously Bivin, Heuerman, Jaylon, Anzalone and Byrne didn't have actionable offers.

Urban is probably like someone's 5th grade girlfriend.

You go to tell her you don't want her to be your girlfriend anymore, so she says that she wanted to dump you first.

Recruit: "Coach I wanted to call and let you know I wont be attending Ohio St---"
Urban "NUH UH, WE WERE TAKING YOUR OFFER AWAY FIRST." (hangs up phone immediatly).

Ohio State's spring game this year will be played in the Cincinnati Bengals stadium. Gotta wonder if this move was purely for recruiting purposes since Cincinnati has never been a big hotbed for the Buckeyes and Tubberville is burning bridges there already.

This move was in the works long before Tubberville showed up to burn bridges.

And I disagree with his "burning bridges in Cincinnati," but that's an argument for another place.

If I'm not mistaken, Ohio Stadium will be undergoing some renovations this spring, which is the reason the game is being moved. I suppose they could have chosen Cinci for recruiting over Browns Stadium or even Crew Stadium in Columbus (which they've played spring games at before) but I think its really just coincidence with Tuberville's antics.
