13th is a great number. I feel like we don't want to be at the top of the payscale because then we can't sell as hard the fact that our graduates are committed to serving the community. If you want to sell that aspect of the experience you gotta have some graduates in low-income but high-social-value fields like teaching, social work, work for religious or nonprofit organizations, etc.

Hah! Retroactive affirmation that going to ND over Dartmouth/Cornell was a wise choice.

MAX: Where'd you go to school, by the way?
MISS CROSS: Harvard.
MAX: Really? That's a coincidence. My top schools where I want to apply to are Oxford and The Sorbonne. But my safety is Harvard.

Purdue at 133... Not too bad, considering how many people here are just riding out the wave because their parents are making them go to school / just like to party.

#4 USNA @ $72k and #5 USMA @ $76k do not compute.

Starting Salary for a newly minted Officer, O-1, is $2,250/month or $30,600 annually.

Starting Salary for a newly minted Officer, O-1, is $2,250/month or $30,600 annually.

That is base pay, military personnel get other pays as well. Sea pay, sub pay, housing allowance, commuted rations, hazardous duty pay, nuclear pay, dislocation allowance. Then you also get tax benefits such as no state tax if you are not serving in you home state of record, tax free zones.

For a newly commissioned officer it can add up quickly. Then you can factor in eligibility for pension immediately after retiring at 20 years of service which is around 42 or 43 for most Academy grads, this gives them time to start and finish another career if they want. The earnings potential is quite high for Naval Academy Graduates.

I just read what the asterisk meant. The pay is for officers that have left the military and pursued civilian jobs. In which case they have a degree and 6 years or more of military service. I could see that justifying the $72,000 a year average.

On a side note, my school came in at 98, but I have to wonder if they figure in the current difficulty in finding a job when estimating starting wages. I am in my eighth month of a job search after graduation and my current salary is a big fat 0.

The survey says Starting Salaries. That doesn't include reflect addtions such as Hazardous Duty Pay, Housing, etc. nor deducts, officers pay for meals.

The survey has an asterisk on both USNA and USMA which reflects those that have left the service after fulfilling their military obligation. Thus they are considering their 6th year after graduation as their first year in the work force in their first civilian jobs as a 27 or 28 year old.

That still doesn't compute. Apples and oranges. Those new civilians are getting credit for 5 or 6 years of work experience. Those aren't Starting Salaries. Those are the salaries for people changing careers/industries after a half dozen years. It's a bogus comparison.

Pops taught at ND for 30+ years, and has been retired for about 15. He never made 6 figures.

So what you're saying is that Notre Dame is actually number 11?
