If I was Manti's PR guy, I would be begging Letterman to put a Top Ten list together and have Manti come on and read it.
Quickest way to kill this, laugh at yourself.

Boy that would really make the haters bitch. Manti goes on the talk show circuit. LOL becomes more popular than ever. Makes a line of T-shirts that poke fun at him. Gets approval from ND to use the Logo. LOL. Talk about some bullshit, bitches.

That would let ND off the hook too easy and ESPN has no intentions of dropping this. I know this isn't what we want to hear but as much as I love T'eo as a player on the field, he should have had this senses turned on. How can you let something like this happen? I keep looking at how much he said about this girl on camera and I remember how I had the impression like they were probably going to be engaged and he had to have spent a good amount of time with her. As a fan, I feel betrayed. We can pretend that this wont have an impact on us in the future but the reality is that it most likely will.

Betrayed? Isn't that a little dramatic? I could care less what he does in his personal life as long as he isn't breaking laws. I'm shocked at the God-like pedestal some of you had him on. It's an unfortunate situation but some of you are as weird as the situation itself with your reactions.

Stop it.

The situation is deplorable. Doesn't mean there isn't funny to be had.

If you can't laugh at this situation, your part of the problem.

This is very important for posters here to understand. He is going to get made fun of, the jokes are funny, it's going to happen and it deserves to happen. If this was happening at another school we'd be having a field day.

I think Manti is kind of blowing it by only having one imaginary girlfriend.

No chance they get pregnant or ever want to get married. Heck that spells harem time to me.

Any man who says he hasn't had an imaginary lover is a liar. You just have to avoid getting caught. :)

SNL did SNL I personally have no problem with that, although I caught the tail end of it and into the Jody Foster part. They always take on the biggest news stories and most of the time it lightens the mood. Did they hit up Lance last night?

As a fan, I feel betrayed.

Many of us, naturally feel betrayed in the wake of something like this, but I hope you will entertain the possibility that the perpetrator of that betrayal, far from being Manti, is our very own senses. We sit behind our keyboards and condemn his "emotional immaturity" and lack of judgment, while we fail to acknowledge our own immaturity and lack of judgment in this situation. Where Manti saw in an online profile, of someone he has never met in person, the love of his life, we saw in a twenty-one year old, who we do not know personally, some sort of omni-benevolent diety-like being. Just as much as he saw what he wanted to see, despite his better judgment, so too did many of us allow ourselves to declare him to be much more than he actually is: an outstanding linebacker and an excellent citizen, but also a human and a twenty-one year old human at that. Maybe it's not so far-fetched to be "catfished" afterall.

Well said brother! He's young and very naive. I wish some people's mistakes from 18-25 were made national news! Just saying.

I've done a pretty good job staying out of this thread, and simply turning the TV channel. I went from a state of WTF to where I now am, disappointed with the world... No longer can simple innocense or naivety exist. People are just too cruel. I don't find any fault with Manti. A matter a fact I applaud his innocence, his trust, and his willingness to live with his heart on his sleeve. Unfortunately that type of love and human spirit often get rewarded with cruelty and ridicule. Instead of asking what is wrong with Manti, or what did Manti do wrong, ask yourself what is wrong the world. We put Manti on a pedestal, and we did it for good reason. Those reasons are true now more than ever. It's just a shame that this will likely change Manti's willingness to trust, love, and speak from the heart going forward. I hope not.

JP - not far fetched at all.

notre dame football teo couric - chicagotribune.com

Manti Te'o indeed will talk about his recent fake girlfriend hoax ordeal on camera.

And Katie Couric reportedly will be sitting across from him.

The former Today Show host and CBS evening news anchor landed the first televised interview with the former Notre Dame All-American linebacker, the New York Times reported Sunday.

The newspaper said a spokesman for the show confirmed that Te'o will be interviewed along with his parents, Brian and Ottilia. The Times also reported the interview will be televised on Thursday on “Katie,” Couric's syndicated talk show, and excerpts will be broadcast beforehand on "Good Morning America" and other ABC News programs.

The Times noted a fairly fortuitous coincidence for Couric in landing the interview: The spokesman hired by Te’o's family, Matthew Hiltzik, is also the longtime spokesman for Couric.

Te'o became embroiled last week in a raging controversy after Deadspin.com reported that Lennay Kekua, the 22-year-old woman who was portrayed as Te'o's girlfriend and was said to have died in September, was in fact a hoax.

Te'o first spoke, off-camera, to ESPN and said he had no part in the scam, adding that the alleged mastermind hoaxer, a California man named Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, contacted him to admit his part and apologize last week.

My Response to a USC Fan re: Te'o

My Response to a USC Fan re: Te'o

Since the Hoax thread turned into a Kate Upton thread, I'll put my response to a USC fan regarding Te'o here. I write this on ISD, and a mutual member suggested I write it here as we'll. how are you guys responding to people (besides ignoring...which is pretty much what I've been doing until I had it with this clown)?

So I got into it with a USC buddy last night about Te'o. I let him go on and on about how Te'o had to know because there's all that evidence against him and he could have doctored his evidence and that no one could be that stupid and blah blah blah. Oh, and ND covered up a rape. Finally, I let 'er rip:

1. I find it glorious how all you USC idiots believe EVERYTHING the media says slandering Te'o and ND, but yet you ALWAYS slam the same media when they say things like: USC cheated with Bush, USC paid Bush, USC paid Bush's parents, Mark Sanchez raped a girl, Kiffin cheated by deflating the footballs, Kiffin is a lying, cheating scumbag, Kiffin pulled Kylie Fitts' scholarship earlier this month, Joe McKnight received improper benefits, Cheatie Petey hired extra coaches, Leinart's dad paid for Dwayne Jarrett's rent so they could live off-campus, etc etc etc. You guys are always railing on the media for always being wrong, but yet with this story, they suddenly are 100% correct and you post every single negative article and tweet out there and report it as fact??? WTF??? Explain.

2. If no one could be that stupid, then how could a movie AND a recurring TV show be running about people who have been duped the same way? Are those thousands of people making it up too??? ("Yeah, but Manti went to ND, he's supposed to be smart.") OK, so why are doctors and lawyers and teachers and architects getting scammed by these people as well? (Silence)

3. What was his motive??? The Heisman? Are you that ****ing stupid? Do you even know what a football is? Forget the fact that this scam was perpetuated in 2009...he was told she died after the second game of the year!!! At that point, ND BARELY beat a bad Purdue team, we were about to get hammered by Michigan St (every pundit said so), not to mention upcoming losses to Stanford, Oklahoma and USC, MAnti had exactly one pick and one fumble recovery, and no defensive player had ever won the award in the history of the Heisman! And you think he did it for the Heisman, planning it all the way back then??? Man, who's the stupid one now, you or Manti?

4. Manti's biggest mistake was that he let people believe he met her. He admits it was stupid. I agree that was a mistake. But I get it. He was embarrassed. Wouldn't you be? There's still a stigma to meeting people online, and ever worse being in love with someone you've never met. Look at all the people clowning him now! They would have been clowning him back then as well. And again, he had no idea he was getting scammed at the time, that this would become what it did. All you losers who are piling on are the reason he didn't let people know in the first place. People nowadays are brutal. At least Manti knew that, and he was right.

5. When TJ SImers or Bill Plashke write an anti-SC article, you guys say they are the worst reporters out there and you wish they'd die. But when they write something you agree with, hey, they FINALLY got one right. Same thing goes with Cowherd, Petros, and everyone else out there. They're the stupidest human beings on earth, until they see USC's side of things. Then they're fine by you. When Ted Miller was writing all those articles defending you after the sanctions, he was the only one who 'gets it'. Then when he ripped Kiffin, he was the biggest idiot out there. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds.

6. You realize that the ND player touched the girl's breast, and when she said no and flipped out, he stopped. You realize that right? So if that is rape, you and I would have been put in jail a LONG time ago, and several times in fact (especially you LOL). Again, do a little research before you blindly accept what the media says.

His response: "Yeah, but the tweets, and the evidence in the deadspin article, and the..."

Me: So you agree that USC cheated, USC paid Reggie Bush, Mark Sanchez raped a girl, USC pulled Kylie Fitts' scholarship, and Kiffin is constantly cheating? That's what the media says. And I'm just getting started. I could go on and on about what the media says about USC. So Manti is involved in the hoax, and USC did everything the media says it did. We cool with that every time we talk?

Silence.

I win.

(Oh, and I realize that ND fans are the same way SC fans are when it comes to the media, but he didn't know that so screw him.)

God I hate SC...

This conversation ought to go back to Manti. There are other places for the other stuff. Thanks guys!

EDIT: I've moved posts to the off-topic thread but the conversation should nevertheless be moved to the social group. Thanks again!

The amazing thing to me is how the Deadspin "reporters" attach so much significance to an "anonymous friend of Tuiasosopo" pulling an 80% likely (that Manti was in on it) out of his as$, but ND using investigators to uncover a trail of tweets and internet communication proving the opposite is totally ignored. Not to mention the parade of other people scammed by the Lennay Kukua cult.

Good for you for striking back NDinLA.
