Why no mention of Skype. Not from personal experience (ofcorse) but isn't that the first thing you do after you meet someone on line?

Manti being in on this is equally, if not harder, to conceive right now. I am waiting till he tells his story tomorrow to fully assess the situation. Deadspin might not have all their facts straight too due to rushing the story out.

Yes, "Nothing makes sense," but I don't see that changing. I don't think I'll ever understand this. Completely surreal.

Lets hear Manti out. We at least owe him that.

I'm just glad Manti is at Notre Dame, where he'll get the most support possible. Whether he lied, was duped, or any other possibility that this could be, the kid has got to be hurting right now.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but didn't Manti room with Toma? Would he not at least be able to recall certain instances in which Manti and this fictitious person where engaged in conversation or on the computer with one another? Am I wrong or would wouldn't somebody at the school be able to corroborate Te'o's story here?

I'm sure Toma knows a lot, but it's not like he's going to come out and sing Teo's story for everyone. He's Manti's friend.

The truth usually comes out in the end; I just hope and pray that Manti can see that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
When a person feels that all is lost and there is no way out they do foolish things, I just pray that he does harm himself thinking that there no way out.

There are two other people who had talked to her on the phone, so yes. There is a completely unrelated guy (except he is a samoan football player), so yes.

Phone records - either on the university's system or Te'o's cell phone - should be able to go a long way towards proving this one way or the other. If Te'o didn't think he had a girlfriend in California, there won't be lots of long late-night calls there.

So TP texted me the article this afternoon while I was stuck in the clinic so I couldn't see what it was entirely about, but got the gist from the first skim. After reading the past 1065 posts, all I have to say is... HOLY ****!

I side entirely with Manti and believe he was just a naive young man.

I think it's quite possible there were some white lies and willful misunderstandings here (like meeting on the field at the '09 Stanford game), that let the story grow bigger than it was - which is basically what this anonymous player is allegedly saying. But that's quite different than making up a dead girlfriend to boost your Heisman campaign, which is more or less what Te'o stands accused of.
We'll see.
